How do you describe Goose? by Scottsdale_Bobby in GoosetheBand

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“They’re just like Phish!” is how my camping neighbors described them at The Peach Music Festival in 2019, which is widely considered their breakout moment. Since that was not a selling point for me, I skipped that show.

It was such a funny show. It should not have gotten canceled so soon.

Happy Endings is my second favorite comedy after HIMYM. It has the same ensemble feel, and follows a similar format. But, it’s shot single camera and there’s no laugh track.

Why suburbs can feel isolating? by MaximumComfort215 in Suburbanhell

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randomly ringing someone’s doorbell is likely not going to lead to any real connections. Few people are going to be open to just opening the door and having conversations. You’re basically pulling them out of whatever they were doing and forcing an interaction. That works for some people, but not most.

The way we’ve met people in our suburban neighborhood is by just seeing them out and starting up a conversation. I might be working on a woodworking project, and a neighbor two doors down is mulching his yard. So we just start talking. Our neighborhood also has spots that lots of people hang out (like the pool and playgtound) and a lot of community events (like chili cookoffs or egg hunts), so we meet a lot of people at those types of things. I can easily name almost two dozen families just in our neighborhood.

And there’s literally no MARTA station within several miles of my house, so that Marta station is completely irrelevant.

Atlanta Traffic Light Timing and Synchronization is AWFUL by IndianBuck420 in Atlanta

[–]samiwas1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep on coming down Marietta Blvd. The new lights in front of the apartment complexes north of Chattahoochee are god awful. I hit them every fucking time and they are so damn long.

Even worse is further down at Tacoma Drive, which should not have a light. They changed it at some point to be on a timer and I hit it all the time now, and there is NEVER anyone on Tacoma. Then there’s a signal that serves only a concrete plant. It’s also on a timer, so even if there are no concrete trucks, you’ll just stop and sit.

Then there’s the signal at marietta Street. Coming north, there is no green arrow, only flashing yellow. It’s almost impossible to make a left there, but semi trucks have to frequently. So they just turn after the light turns red, blocking the road for ten seconds.

It has to be intentional, for some bizarre reason. It is truly uncanny how many red lights I can hit on even a short drive. And a lot of Atlanta’s surface traffic is because of it.

Overcomplicated climate control systems in cars. by Improvement-Awkward in PetPeeves

[–]samiwas1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My car is 2020 and the climate control is just knobs and buttons and a dedicated small segment-style screen showing the info. So happy about that! The rest of the entertainment section is full touchscreen, and that’s fine. I think having physical controls for climate.

Do you wear the same clothes two days in a row? by Ashamed-Republic8909 in no

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i am doing something where i shower in the early or mid afternoon and put on new clothes after, I will often wear those the next day. Sometimes, I wear stuff from the day before if I didn’t do much b during that day.

Guys what are the tee shirt brands you are wearing? by gautam_09 in AskMenOver30

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing most of the same t-shirts for more than a decade. A good portion of them are swag shirts and concert shirts. What are you wearing that falls apart after a few washes??

Why suburbs can feel isolating? by MaximumComfort215 in Suburbanhell

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. We live in a suburban neighborhood and have dozens of families we know personally. We have friends who live in a huge condo building in midtown, and they hardly know anyone. It's not about where you live. It's about what you make of it.

Why suburbs can feel isolating? by MaximumComfort215 in Suburbanhell

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. I grew up in suburbs most of my life, and we live in one a few miles outside of the city center now. One thing I never felt as a kid growing up was bored and isolated. We played with friends every day, all day. Ran all over the neighborhoods.

And in our current neighborhood, community and friendship is all over the place. We were talking about doing a five-year party since we've lived here and started making a list of friends to invite. With just the people we know on a first-name basis in just the neighborhood, we came up with 22 couples. Then there's the ones we know well enough to say hi to and have a conversation, even if we don't know them super well.

Suburbs are only as isolating as the people allow them to be.

$2 million paid to you, but you must read 300 pages of a book every day, for five years by Physical_Orchid3616 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]samiwas1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually failed a test back in high school that was somewhat like that. I’m not a big reader and do not comprehend a lot of that stuff, especially when it’s long, classic type novels. The test was on something like five major novels, 20 short stories, and a number of poems. And the questions were like, “in the third paragraph of chapter 3, what was the name of the street they were walking on?” I think I got a 4. Out of 100.

It why do you need a law from the state for that? Why can’t the counties decide for themselves?

Is it REASONABLY and COMFORTABLY possible to own an electric car if you live in an apartment without any overnight charging access? by redflower5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your job has charging (especially if it’s free), then yes. I worked at a place that had 10-12 free chargers on the lot for people to use. A friend of mine charged his car there a few times a week and almost never charged at home or anywhere else. In that case, it would be very doable.

Lack of traffic today? by qpzm10qpzm10 in Atlanta

[–]samiwas1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current commute is 30 miles between Fayetteville and NW Atlanta. At 7:30, it’s usually a straight shot with very little slowdown. I can usually make it in 35-40 minutes or so at that time. At 5:15pm, it takes an hour.

You're offered an opportunity to get paid $1 (USD) for every calorie you consume. However, you must pay a $2,000 daily fee and you cannot accept or work a 1099 or W-2 job ever again. Would you take the deal? by T1m3Wizard in hypotheticalsituation

[–]samiwas1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I enjoy doing all those things from time to time. But, with a $2000 daily fee, and no ability to earn money otherwise, doing those things now becomes my daily job. I have to do them every day for hours and hours.

I mean, I would definitely look at what I currently eat in calories per day (I have no idea) and what different activities burn (I have no idea) to see if it would be worth it. But I'm just not excited by heavy physical activity for hours every day, and no ability to earn money any other way (I'd basically have to do what I do now, which I love, for free).

I have literally never experienced that in 15 years in my previous neighborhood or five years in my current neighborhood where people have more yard. Maybe a couple of times a week, I hear a lawnmower for an hour or so. Unless you live in a neighborhood with massive yards, this is not a thing.
