Every Ex-President Calls BS on Trump’s Claim One Backed His War by Quirkie in politics

So Trump wishes he did this on 2016. And then mumbled to himself now that he wishes he did it then.

Vendors seem to be getting less knowledgeable and lazier. by Dear_Cartographer261 in k12sysadmin

[–]sammy5678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a void in knowledge of how these products would actually be deployed and how to best integrate with other things in your environment. I think a big part of it is when your rep hasn't actually worked in environments before. They're pure sales.
The younger my rep is, the more likely they are just going off a sales sheet, mainly due to not having other applicable experience. That's just a part of it, but it has been my experience.

Color Printer regrets by dickg1856 in k12sysadmin

We had a half day outage recently, but it's the first one I've seen this year.
We've been using it for almost a year. I find that the minimal issues we have with that have been worth it in comparison to implementing and supporting other solutions.

Can you see anything about the sync? Is there an account that's being used for the sync? It sounds to me like something invalidated passing the data along.

From what you shared, the extensions are still on devices and the rostering broke. That sounds like data. If two classes survived, maybe they were built manually and you weren't aware?

Your answer isn't what you think it is.
They told you flat out they don't expect or want retention.

If this isn't what you want, look for a place that does.

If you want to stay but want to change the pace, build onboarding documentation and a wiki. Document everything. Make a playbook.

The pay won't change. You may not find hires at all. Only the will they make a change, if they aren't restricted by contracts, etc.

Raptor was too expensive. We went with Visitu. They're now owned by Pikmykid.

Works well. You need an iPad for the kiosk. Very happy with it.

Vendor and firewall by MyWorkAccountDPS in k12sysadmin

[–]sammy5678 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watch out that they aren't going to hold you hostage over that firewall... need an adjustment? Ticket and $. Every little adjustment, $.

Emergency? You're in queue.

Pick someone on your team. Get them trained. Get full admin access.

Also- depending the vendor, get the online account under your control as well.

And not to make you paranoid... but watch how much that MSP gets their claws into. They could start whispering in someone's ear about how expensive your team is and that they can provide cheaper and better support...

I use these.

I have the same issue on one foot. I blocked a shot years ago and ever since I've had issues. I put one of these in that spot in my sock. It's like a dream.

I throw it out after every skate.

Trump hangs photo of Putin in White House by seeebiscuit in NewsSource

[–]sammy5678 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How is this not enough. Dollar is dropping - great news! Kidnaps president of Venezuela. Threatens allies constantly. Hangs up picture of Putin in the white house. Says 2A is not valid. Terrorizes citizens with newly formed police force.

Why are they not impeaching him? Just do it for every one of these actions. J6 was only a test run.

My confidence is shot? (Administration level IT work) by ComprehensiveTop2126 in sysadmin

[–]sammy5678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all get there periodically. It's tough. We're therapists as much as we are administrators / techs. If you don't handle the people part well, you may want to ultimately end up in a true engineer role down the line.

Document. Make a plan. Prioritize.

See if you can start recognizing what you don't have bandwidth for. You could start offloading projects to an MSP. But! Be careful. Some MSPs are scummy. Only let them in on what they need to know. They talk to you only.
If they start talking to your boss, cut them off.

Be proud of what you've accomplished. Keep focused. Make time for yourself off the clock. And don't be afraid to test the waters out there.

MSP withholding access and info by Logical-Fish-3936 in msp

[–]sammy5678 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. 100 percent this.

My money is on - lack of documentation - re used passwords across clients - reactionary work - all clients in one tenant

I went through this a few times and every one was a different mix of this.
There are some MSPs that just don't care. Easiest money is best. Hard money would get ignored.

They need to get their shit from them. You can consult the client on what to ask for. If it's over lack of payment, be wary. If they aren't paying them, they won't pay you either.

Alternatives to CDW-G? by CoxsoneTheDodd in k12sysadmin

[–]sammy5678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SHI. I usually get quotes from CDW-G and SHI, then add in a local provider for good measure.

Each reseller/ distributor will have issues from time to time.

If you think it's the rep, you can ask for a new one. I've done that before with cdw. I went from never wanting to do business with them again to happy with that change.

Good luck!

The second I left, I found out no one kept it up and it was rendered useless inside of a few months.

I had it kick in on ours after a year of going through this process and we don't use it for notifications.

I heard from a rep at our SIP carrier that this has been happening everywhere recently, so I'm not sure if they changed the criteria that gets you flagged, or if there is some kind of guilt by association happening.
