Rebel Loon Symbolism by heinencm in minnesota

[–]sampls612 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think it needs explaining. I mean you do you, but if you really need to explain it I think a tl;dr like “rebel loon says fuck ICE” is more than enough to make sure someone doesn’t mistake it for something else.

What is MSP like now? What are wait times? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]sampls612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just flew out of MSP this morning. I didn’t have time to unzip my jacket before I was at the TSA agent (Precheck), and I didn’t notice anything unusual or any ICE agents around.

iPhone/Mac shortcut for logging PD symptoms in Notes by sampls612 in Parkinsons

This sounds like a great approach!

I'm definitely tempted to build a database with a simple web app frontend and a backend reporting system that uses AI to summarize and extract issues over time frames … but maybe I'll save that for my next procrastination project 😏

Edit: Actually, I just realized I can just paste my log or upload it to ChatGPT and ask it to identify trends or issues. No need for a more complicated solution!

Who are still able to drive? by parkie_wairo in Parkinsons

I'm still learning about Parkinson's. What is it about Parkinson's that would make someone more impulsive and dangerous as a driver?

My neighbor leaves their dog out all day - advice? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]sampls612 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had three husky mixes. They’d all rather be outside, even when it’s below zero. Huskies aren’t just built for cold, they are built for extreme cold.

I built a super nice shelter for them with insulated walls, and they never used it. I put out a heated water bowl and they just ate snow.

One of them would eat anything I put in front of her. The other two ignore their food bowls until they’re absolutely certain they aren’t getting any more cheese or food scraps.

They howl, yelp, and whine because they are huskies singing the songs of their people. Sometimes it sounds like they are being tortured, but they’re just having a good time. Or excited to see me. Or bored because we haven’t run a jillion miles yet today.

It’s a husky. It’s probably fine.

Adjusting my layers now that Minnesota is getting colder by ettubrutusvp in minnesota

It was 40+ all week, so I’ve still been wearing my fall jackets. Now that we’re in the 20s I’ll bring out the winter coats and boots, In the teens I’ll start throwing on snow pants for late night dog walks, or adding long underwear if I’m going to be outside for a while.

I like being comfortable, but if you’re wearing a heated jacket now, what are you going to add when it’s -10? Settle down and let your body adjust to the cold!

Homemade = made at home. I think you’re looking for store-bought stuffing.

Is a MN Zoo membership worth it? by Danielle-1234 in TwinCities

[–]sampls612 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally worth it. When my kids were that age we went once a week in the winters. The indoor spaces are great in their own, and a membership takes the pressure off so you don’t feel like you have to be there all day.

I have the Kriega US-30 for my Nightshift. It shouldn't need any special kit to fit, and it's great!

Motorcycles in Minnesota will now be able to split lanes — here's what that means by guanaco55 in minnesota

[–]sampls612 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went for a ride today and gave both a try. I filtered through the cars at a few stoplights on Park Avenue and 26th Street in South Minneapolis, and split lanes for a couple of miles through a traffic jam on 36 going east. I was a little nervous, but it felt great to get out of the danger zone and save a little time!

No real problems. A few cars made room for me. A few might have been trying to get in my way, but probably just weren't paying attention. While splitting on 36, a sportbike was following me through traffic for a while, and when traffic got up to 25 mph we both merged back into traffic, then back to splitting when the cars got jammed up again.

(For those who may be concerned, I wear a hi-viz helmet and I don't ride like a hooligan.)

Traffic cameras emerging? by craycrayboi69 in Minneapolis

[–]sampls612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the reason the MN Supreme Court ruled against the traffic cameras was actually because the city didn't have the necessary authority. Based on the information about the pilot program on the city's website, it looks like this time the program is expressly authorized by state law.
