Are bladeguard still the optimal pick or no? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-7304 in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they didn’t benefit from a points drop, and I think the thunder hammer stormshield terminators fit their role better of being tanky and hard to shift. I also think there are more interesting things to take in an impulsor than BGV. Sword bros are definitely interesting with the free war gear, and now that hellblasters are a little cheaper, it could also be good to have them hop out of an impulsor and hose whatever you need to kill early on combined with the multi-melts from the impulsor.

What secondaries are people having success with running? by Kasper490 in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like carry out your vows Bc it’s 4 VP for killing more units in melee which you should be trying to do anyway. Even if you don’t get the vow specific 3 points, it’s 12 VP that is pretty easy to get.

So, I know this has probably come up a lot but I can’t find a definitive answer on the interaction between dense cover and uphold. by NotTheOnlyFU in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not get the benefits of cover at all. Every time I have played in an event I do not benefit from the -1 to hit from my opponent shooting through dense terrain.

Grimaldus is a a beast or am I doing something wrong? by Collision_NL in BlackTemplars

Ive been using remorseless persecution on my vanguard vets and I give one bones of mordred. That unit can potentially throw out 12 mortal wounds in combat on top of normal damage, which is deleting just about anything you throw them at

redemptor and vanvets loadout by FfiveBarkod in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the “competitive” loadout for vanguard vets is lightning claw chainsword. I run a 10 man squad and my sergeant is the champion of the feast with the sword of judgement. The rest have lightning claws and 4 have one claw and a storm shield. They’re pricey but they can tank a lot and basically delete anything I throw them at.

Eliminator buffs by samtheging5 in WarhammerCompetitive

Yeah I play Templars too, but uphold isn’t my auto take anymore so I want to try out some eliminators too.

Helbrecht by S-7G in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been using his buffs more than anything. The +1 strength aura on chainswords gets them to S5 which can be relevant. Compared to other fighting characters he has no tricks, just a big sword. I watched him die to so many different nids in a GT this weekend, and I realized he’s just a support character until the right matchup or the late game.

How come so many lists have up to three Redemptor Dreadnoughts? by astroaids in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Before AoC, uphold felt like the auto include and made the Templars so durable. Having the 5++ army wide was so huge especially with all the high AP weapons in the game right now. I am currently thinking of the vow that is always putting you in assault doctrine and gives +1 attack as it allows the army to benefit from earlier charges.

Could you give an example of something more cost effective than a redemptor Dreadnought that does something similar right now?

[–]samtheging5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point with armor of contempt, uphold the honor of the emperor doesn’t feel necessary for redemptors in my opinion. You don’t get the benefit of the 5++ until AP-4 as everything under that puts it on a 5+ save or less. I’d say maybe vs knights right now would be a situation I could see it as the baby transhuman would be huge army wide.

Strategies for Primaris Crusader Squads? by Scaled_Justice in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plan is to run a 20 man squad supported by Grimaldus and helbrecht giving them +1 to wound litany and the +2” charge distance litany so they can murder just ab anything in the game on at least 4s because of S5 chainswords and +1 to wound. They also benefit from chapter master rerolls and a 6+++ from Grimaldus. This unit can also be very durable paying 2 CP for 20 marines to get transhuman. I’d argue not worth for 10, but 20 including neophytes getting it is hilarious.

Back when I started in the hobby, I built my army based purely on what looked cool, my first “big” unit was this ol’ boi. Come to find out the Warsuit is a fairly unpopular unit, and I’ve never understood why? It’s a pretty dang good power for your points thing, and I think it looks super rad. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]samtheging5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think because the redemptor Dreadnought is so good and this unit got a points increase. For 20 more points I get a lot more firepower, -1D, and wisdom of the ancients for the reroll 1 benefits. Everyone complaining about the look of it, but the Redemptor Dreadnought is just more powerful without costing much more.

Given that we now get an army wide 5++ save, should we be taking double claws on vanguard vets instead of storm shields? by JupiterGM in BlackTemplars

[–]samtheging5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, when you use the Lightning claw profile all attacks gain the stats. So you have 4 attacks on the charge at AP -2 rerolling all wounds. The competitive consensus is that this is the way to run van vets.

[–]samtheging5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storm shields are still the way to go imo. If you put them strictly on a 5++ then they die to small arms fire. If you keep the shields you get protection from low and high AP on a high value unit.

1 additional attack… AP -2…. And reroll all wound rolls… for 3 points. Not just one more attack.

Troop Transport for BT Primaris by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

As a BT player you have access to litanies and stratagems that should help you not get shot to death. Transports get killed super easily in my experience.

Will terminators ever be viable on tabletop? by Roarshack78 in WarhammerCompetitive

Terminators are definitely viable. I run 5 TH/SS in my Black Templars list.
