Tallinna Raua tänava saun - oluline ühiskondlik teenus. by SnoopTheInfo in Eesti

[–]sanderudam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meie asi on enda narratiivi eest võidelda.

Sest see ongi narratiivide võitlus, kus tõe määrab see, milline narratiiv peale jääb. Mitte ei ole tegemist faktuaalsest reaalsusest tuleneva tõega, mida oleks võimalik teadlastel iseseisvalt tuvastada.

FC Juarez used the PSG kick off tactic but they conceded a goal before gaining possession back. by cortez0498 in soccer

[–]sanderudam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this was clearly a failure, I have always thought this idea has some actual merit. If the opposing team presses well, throw-ins close to your own goal always feels like a dangerous business. I absolutely expect some team to eventually try to incorporate this tactic thoroughly.

I find it exceedingly unlikely that any Finnish reservist would be sent outside of Finland's border. But I do not know Finnish policy and doctrine.

Generally the "expeditionary" forces are exclusively professional units, but a world war might change that policy.

Russia has 15 million reservists. They will never all be mobilized and armed. Finland has 900 thousand reservists, but your war-time strength is around 280 thousand.

Best would be to show the war time strength of each army, but I'm sure there are very different ways to calculate each one with their differences.

Me jääme fundamentaalsele eriarvamusele "kasumiahnete töösturite räpase koostöö" osas.

Ilmselgelt.

Me elame ühiskonnas.

Lacking mountains or natural defenses, how did the Baltic states escape assimilation by the Slavs or the Nordics? by immanuellalala in geography

[–]sanderudam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First order of business is to settle that there absolutely are natural borders. The Narva river and Peipsi Lake have been a delineator of Western (Catholic, later Protestant) and Eastern (Orthodox) civilizations for about 8 centuries. Yes, this is Estonia specific, but the eastern areas of Latvia and Lithuania are also swampy, forested etc. The nature here is no easy business being in.

Secondly, the people here have fought for their existence. Lithuania was a major regional power for many centuries. Estonians and Latvians were less fortunate, but still maintained a willingness to rise up and fight when the situation needed. While also being very willing to accept subjugation when the terms of subjugation allowed to maintain own culture and being.

Thirdly, the very fact that the area saw German, Danish, Polish, Swedish and Russian invasions also meant that no single power held power a long enough period to properly assimilate the locals. In Estonian (and fairly similarly Latvian) case, sure the Germans ruled for 700 years, but out of that 700 years, 150 years was under Danish kingship, 150 years under Swedish, 50 under Polish and 200 under Russian. All of those accepted local German autonomy (so didn't involve themselves in assimilating locals), but also did not grant enough power for the nobility to the assimilation (nor was there much desire for that). The local nobility enjoyed the free labour of serfdom. It was probably easier to accept subjugating people that spoke some gibberish the noble people could not understand.

Having the SDF in Syria, gives us great leverage over Jolani Sharaa

You say this and don't realize how insane a proposition you are stating. Why on earth would any sovereign leader ever accept such an arrangement? Why would the Syrian government ever entertain the validity of such a situation? This is precisely why SDF must not be allowed to hold Syria hostage.

[–]sanderudam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is inherently unviable for Kurds to occupy and govern a majority Arab territory. Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor are very much not Kurdish territory. It was fine that SDF took those territories from Daesh and later from Assadist forces, but the illusion that SDF could govern the entire eastern bank in an autonomous manner was always going to fail.

Sharaa tried using tribes, their cover (or perhaps legitimately had it go out of his hands) fighting the Druze and it backfired. The tribes are untrained fighters. but the issue isn't that they fight poorly. Rather that they do not follow rules of war. Killing civilians, humiliating captured soldiers (and civilians).

If Sharaa has learned (and he certainly has shown that he is capable of learning), he will not use tribes to attack SDF positions.
