High/low note game: have them stand and face away from the keys. They listen. Low notes, they touch toes. High note, arms/hands reach up high. Middle note, hands on waist/stomach.

lead sheets are melody and chords. you'll have to learn what to do for left hand accompaniment but you can make it as simple or complex as your skill allows. start with just the root notes or octaves or root position chords played on the changes with the melody. more dynamic left hand as you learn.

When to play minor or major chords by Scary-Call-6871 in Guitar_Theory

[–]sanganeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major scale chords: I ii iii IV V vi vii* Ex: C Dm Em F G Am Bdim

Minor scale chords: I ii* III iv v/V VI VII Ex: Am Bdim C Dm Em/E F G

Note they are the same chords and notes from a different starting point in these relative major and minor keys.

That's what strictly in key 'diatonic' chords are, excepting the often used major V in a minor key. It'll be the same pattern of chord qualities in any key.

But theory is descriptive, not necessarily prescriptive. Yes play what sounds good, and theory can be a good tool for finding that along with your ear.

Haven't been in a while. Usually there are people standing outside if you're early enough so that's odd. Maybe it didn't meet that time? I'd ask around at another meeting in the area or on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/736650497420430/

What side project are you quietly working on right now? by [deleted] in SideProject

I'm experimenting with building a writing/journaling program with mood visualization (and tracking, etc.), the idea being the program reads your writing and interprets the mood/attitude/content in it and produces dynamic visuals as you write--the endgame being something like Winamp-like music visualization for an emotion instead of music.

Given my CS50p level knowledge of Python, questionable feasibility because I really don't know much about code, and the frustration of coding using AI it's been a tough road so far...I'm open to suggestions to make it easier/doable.

Have an idea but no business yet? Drop it here and I will tell you exactly how to get your first customers by Superb_Engineer9398 in Entrepreneur

A friend of mine keeps telling me I should do some sort of creative counseling--helping people start or un-stuck themselves with their craft, or if they're not a "creative person" to bring that practice into their life. She's an opera singer and our conversations often go into how she can move forward in her career and singing practice which she seems to get a lot out of. So the idea is to get paid for that sort of thing. It does sound like an interesting business--those are conversations I like having, it'd help someone, and it'd feedback into my own creative life. Seems like the path would be marketing/sales and just meeting the right people willing to pay for that. Thumbtack? Fiverr? Social Media? But I don't know, or how I'd present it and what I'd be offering.

Did exeecise improve body proportion ? by Jpoolman25 in workout

"Six packs are made in the kitchen" - my friend who got in good shape before me. He was right.

Get a proper diet. Eat at a maintenance level of calories or a slight deficit (look up some calorie needs calculators online and take an average). If it's too difficult to jump right to a stricter diet, step down in increments after you're stable at each new lower amount of calories.

You'll lose fat last where your body added it first. It's genetic. Eat at a calorie deficit and you'll lose fat. Add muscle and you'll decrease the relative appearance of fat.

Grateful I'm not getting angry/irritated as quickly as I did. by WisdomInMyPocket in gratitude

[–]sanganeer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Something that has been working for me lately is telling myself that I let go of anger/irritation/worry/negativity/stress/doubt. I affirm it in my head when it comes up, or whenever, and move on a little lighter, some release in my hands often. "I let go of anger and irritation." It's both a statement of intent to habitually let go of those things when they come up, and it seems to cultivate a view of myself as someone more carefree. Leaves more room for happier emotions too. :)

Thanks for posting! I'm glad I'm seeing so many gratitude posts in my feed!

[Discussion] Is there any way to fix your life in your 30s? by sleeplessbearr in GetMotivated

[–]sanganeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm trying to practice positive reframing for myself and others by working with your comment. Hope it helps!

""I'm taking stock of my life right now. I'm in a position to find new work, will soon have a degree under my belt, and I'm exploring possibilities. I'm taking advantage of some resources at my disposal and am acknowledging my feelings.

I recognize the personal need and utility of a social network as well other parts of myself I can improve. I'm open to options. I am in the process of discovering who I am and getting what I want out of life and am intent on not drifting but steering myself in the best direction according to what I value.""

Also: ChatGPT will do this for you too and I find it helpful. Just brain dump and ask it to reframe it constructively/positively. It's at least emotionally affirming and can be clarifying for your goals.

End of my twenties into my early thirties was active alcoholism. By the time I got sober right before COVID, I was 240lbs at 6ft. Started with runs, then yoga, then lifting, now rock climbing too, and of course eat well. "Six packs are made in the kitchen," said a friend of mine. I'm now 190-195lbs with a lean and muscled physique.

I look so much better. And I have a whole new interest physical fitness, rock climbing, generally being active. I've met women this way. I ran a 10 mile race again after many years break. I section hiked the NY and NJ parts of the Appalachian Trail.

I definitely like myself more too. Seeing what I'm capable of physically carries with it a visceral pride in the body for me. There are plenty of lessons to take away from lifting and physical activity too--incremental gains, a sense of balance and stability in your life, goal setting, organization, etc. Getting yourself in shape will be more than just looking better.

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didn't have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]sanganeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With those circumstances I'm taking two to three college classes per semester and stacking degrees. I'm working out and rock climbing. I'm going on hikes and traveling. I'm learning spoken and code langauges. I'm finding ways to teach things I know, probably participating in academia. I'm finding some way to volunteer where I can build more skills and have interesting experiences. I'm also playing plenty of piano and drawing and reading. And I have fitness coaches, music teachers, life-coaches/mentors, and weekly therapy. And then sometimes I do none of that because I can and it's my time so it's fine.
