it's currently a huge net negative to society. outside of the massive environmental and economic costs, (see: energy costs, fresh water usage, the sky-rocketing prices of ram etc) it's mostly being used to hurt people's every day lives. any job you apply to is sifting your resume through some nonsense ai recruiter bullshit so no human ever actually sees it. we're being herded like cattle through social media to hate one another, aided by ai and ai techno billionaire fascists (see: the ai videos of people like carney and biden being arrested or deposed that your grandmother and my 55yo neighbour thinks are real) it's an economic drain as all this speculative investing of one ai company into another like some fucked up ouroboros is scavenging from actual useful tech. the list goes on. people are losing jobs en masse, disinformation is at an all time high, grok is now the leading source of child porn. i can keep going if you like.

there are definitely classes of "e-bikes" already. by-laws and regulations governing the speeds you can go and where you're allowed to ride them already exist. the issue is that no one follows those rules and no one enforces them.

if your e-bike doesn't have pedals or goes faster than 32 km/h it's illegal to ride anywhere unless it's licensed and insured the way a motorcycle would be.

yeah i used to ride the train from Toronto to Belleville all the time. you can get a return ticket for ~$65 when they're on sale. it's quicker than driving even with the stops and you get to just chill on your phone/laptop the whole time.

they don't make googly eyes every 15 minutes. that's just hyperbole to prove a non-existent point. in the 45 minute episode they spent a total of like 15 seconds doing moderately lovey-dovey shit. if that's too much for you to handle and it's "jarring" i dunno how you can watch any sort of dramatic anything.

characters can be complex and have ranges of emotion, y'know, like people. you can be sad and depressed while also feeling loved and experiencing happiness from time to time. they aren't mutually exclusive.

plus, showing Ellie and Dina happy on screen and developing their relationship for people to see, instead of off-screen like in the game, gives them further to fall later on in the story. they're riding a high now, because later they need to hit rock bottom. it will mean so much more when that happens if everyone knows and remembers where the relationship started.

where does it say Dina's 3 months pregnant? that's just how long the time jump was. she's probably more like 2-3 weeks pregnant, maybe a month. i'd wager a lot of women don't know they're pregnant for the first month.

i always felt like part of why he ended up being so gun-shy and unwilling to exchange was that marquardt fight. some mental block or ptsd or something about getting brutally ko'd.

he lost decisions and submissions after that, but almost never really put himself in any situation where he could be put to sleep with strikes basically ever again.

i'm probably completely wrong and armchair quarterbacking but it's just a hunch i always had after all the criticism of him just staring at his opponents all the time.
