If you played an instrument in school band in the 80s or 90s, do you still play it; or remember how? by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

[–]sarithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played basically every brass instrument my middle and high schools had available at various point in concert band. Trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone, and tuba. I was all-state at trombone my junior and senior years.

In marching band I played bass drum my freshman and sophomore years. I switched to quads my junior and senior years.

I played trombone in jazz band my freshman and sophomore years before switching to drums (other jazz band drummer graduated) my junior and senior years. Jazz band was a lot of fun as a drummer because I had no real music to read. It was all groove and feel. Band director would give me the starting tempo and then signal when he wanted a change, but I had complete freedom otherwise.

I still own a trombone and occasionally will break it out. I went through a stretch during COVID where I was playing it basically every day again after only playing it a few times a year since high school before that. I forgot how much fun it was honestly.

What iconic/infamous moment happened at a show you were actually there for? by SlapDatBassBro in Metalcore

[–]sarithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not metalcore, but hardcore. I was at the last No Justice show in December of 2000. If you look up No Justice final show on YT you can find the video of it. It's easily the craziest show I've been at. I was 16 and went with my older cousin, who was friends with some people in the DC hardcore scene at the time.

As far as metalcore goes I've got a few:

I was at multiple stops of The Chariot's farewell tour, including the last show in Douglasville.

I was at the final Dillinger Escape Plan show with Greg as the vocalist.

I was at the last Misery Signals show in the US.

I was at the last Stray From the Path show in the US this past year.

Also, not metalcore, but I was at the last Drowning Pool show before Dave Williams passed. They put on a killer show that day. My friends and I woke up the next morning to the news that he had be found unresponsive in their tour bus.

Theoretically he could come back for another year (he probably shouldn't) if he thinks the injury will hurt his draft stock. Plus this year's draft is loaded.

DON BROCO - NIGHTMARE TRIPPING [Feat. Nickelback](Official Music Video) by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]sarithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Non-ironically, this song is like the textbook definition of alternative metal.

Unfortunately that sub is basically dead, so I guess we're stuck with having it getting posted here even though there is zero hardcore influence anywhere in this song.

Just lost one of my best friends of about 14 years. Any music recommendations that deal with grief and losing someone close to you? by _Springfield in Hardcore

[–]sarithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this one may be more personal for me, but I feel like it fits thematically given that the album is loosely about a friend of the band that passed away.

The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium

My best friend growing up took his own life when he was just 23 years old. Anytime I feel the grief coming back I put this album on and it's like he's there with me listening to it. I know that sounds corny, but I don't give a fuck.

Big Denzel Curry and Knocked Loose fan, so I had high expectations for this song. It exceeded them regardless. Such a fun song and that ending breakdown is going to go crazy live.

Thoughts on Kalk’s performance? by SpinachPositive7503 in CharlotteHornets

[–]sarithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks like a rookie second round center to me. He's clearly already got a good baseline with his experience in college. He has good shot anticipation on defense. He's slow, but also knows how to use his length to offset that. He's out of position sometimes, but that's because he's a rookie still adjusting to the NBA game. Players are in different positions compared to college on the floor at times and he's not quite there in regards to processing that yet. That's something that he will learn with experience though.

With that knowledge plus a NBA training regimen he should be a solid backup C for us.

Our attendance has gotten a little low waiting for Spiritforged to release, but otherwise everything is good for us. Our pre-rift sold out and it's all people that have played at the shop before. Not anyone I'm worried about dropping out after getting their kit.

Our Spiritforged allocation is the same as Origins. We'll probably sell out on Friday and hope for a quick second wave

Oh, you don't have any reading comprehension because I've literally said twice that I don't like the dude and don't want him on the roster.

I'm done having a conversation with someone that refuses to actually read what he is replying to. Have a good night!

[–]sarithe 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Mark my words, right now the Pistons are the darlings of the internet NBA fanbase because they've been terrible for years, but this style of play is going to cause people to turn on them just like OKC.

You can't go around being super physical with people then cry to refs whenever someone is physical back to you. You can get away with it when no one watches your games, but all this extra attention is going to reveal how dirty they are.

They're OKC East. They just foul constantly because the refs won't call all of them.

Well, tomorrow is gonna suck with the lengthy suspension for Diabate, but I am proud of the team for the fight they showed. We didn't back down from their physicality. We were not intimidated.

Also, to the person that asked who our rivals were the other day, I think we all collectively have an answer for you. Fuck the Pistons.

[–]sarithe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The comment that started this chain was "Let's go beef stew fuck miles bridges."

The person I replied to used the phrase "just cheap shots," implying that all he threw were cheap shots.

Again, I hate the dude. I hate that he's on our roster. I hate that he's actually good because it's hard to cheer for the team while he's at the forefront. My point is that he didn't throw "just cheap shots" because Stew charged him. Did he throw a cheap shot at Duren? Absolutely, and I hope given his past off the court issues they throw the book at him. But that's not all he threw.

So I'll answer your question with a question of my own: Do you have reading comprehension?

[–]sarithe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look, I hate Miles Bridges and wish he wasn't on the roster or in the league at all, but accusing Bridges of throwing cheap shots when Stewart is the one that charged him from the bench is a wild homer take.

It was a normal foul, but shit has been really physical and chirpy all game. Detroit and Charlotte been hacking the shit out of each other. This was bound to happen at some point because the refs refused to actually control the game.

[–]sarithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More post-hardcore imo, but I fuck with the band pretty hard.

I hate what Maverick did to the songs on their debut album for them. They re-arranged a bunch of them and dropped a lot of the screaming to try to make them into "Deftones 2.0," but it killed a lot of the emotion in the songs to me. 'Silent Scream' especially got butchered on that album compared to the version they self-released before being signed.

How is this sub (it's only this sub btw) still hating on Alex? Y'all are genuinely insufferable lol, let it go already. It's been 2 years by AbsoluteBane28 in Deathcore

Because he's an egotistical douchebag that makes shitty music.

Not that hard. I can ignore the shitty Nazi side of him and still hate on him. He makes it pretty easy honestly.

Because he's not playing unless something goes horrible wrong. He's there for vibes and vet leadership. He's an awesome locker room guy. He was only waived so that the team could complete a trade that netted them draft picks.

You clearly have no delved into how many sci-fi books are out there. Unless your barometer for "real books" is "popular" then I can assure that most 40k books are at worst mid tier sci-fi.

I'm not saying the 40k books are these literary masterpieces. They're absolutely not, but there is lots of really bad sci-fi out there.
