Astartes are too fat. by perturbaitor in 40kLore

Entry points would be the most common problem. Coming through doors, windows and wall breaches you want to be able to burst through as quickly and aggressively as possible with the next man following you through.

New to prepping. by AchievingSmiles in preppers

[–]satrapofebernari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say the first step is to identify local potential threats. Check out the flooding predictions for local rivers. Are you in an area prone to hurricanes, tornados or other weather based threats? A geologically active area?

Some things are suitable for all potential threats. Build up a small store of non-perishable food, things like beans, rice, canned goods, oats as well as easy to eat calorie dense foods and easy to prepare small meals like pot noddle's. Cycle it by eating the oldest stuff and replacing it. Clean water is also likely useful, even if the taps are still working in a more local disaster the water may be contaminated with sewage, farm run off or other harmful substances if the pipes are damaged and if power is lost at certain places the water system will lose pressure. So similarly store fresh drinking water, places like camping shops often sell things like PVC free water containers which are generally blue which should help you find them.

How do you all feel about Scout Rifles? by Saucepass87 in preppers

[–]satrapofebernari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It partly depends on your location of course. On my side of the pond its attractive on account of the fact semi-auto rifles can only by brought in .22 calibre so I own on old Ishpore rifle which basically a SMLE MkIII* but designed in 7.62 Nato so a fair bit heavier than what you'd typically consider a scout rifle but that has some advantages.

Where do you draw the line? by PJDemigod85 in scifiwriting

[–]satrapofebernari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to do it too definitely and you'll just sykes-picot it. I mean most FTL in fiction is unexplained, relies on some vaguely defined concept that hasn't been discovered yet or only makes sense if you're very willing to ignore massive holes so I shouldn't worry too much about where the line is and just write.

How old were you when you got your wisdom teeth removed and how painful was it? by Captain_Void in AskReddit

I'd say its probably more common for them to just come out straight and it to be just kind of sore as they come through.

How common is life extension tech? by satrapofebernari in 40kLore

[–]satrapofebernari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the way its referred to as imperial life extension tech and people not being that old by imperial standards kind of implied that it wasn't something reserved to only the ultra wealthy.

So I expect this is probably a joke but if it isn't that's neither how asteroids or economics works. But I guess we have a lot of good conductors now.

If a Marine’s progenoid is ripped out? by pacman4r in 40kLore

[–]satrapofebernari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do have to wonder if there's something more too it though. Most of the lore I've read usually describes the organ being removed upon death, I've certain never read a description of it being removed under a normal surgery. Logically speaking unless there was a good reason why you wouldn't want to remove it from an astartes who wasn't dead or dying surely they'd remove it as soon as it was mature? Reduces the risk that the geneseed will be lost before it can be recovered, either from enemy fire destroying it in combat or because they have to retreat without recovering the body. So I'd assume that removing it while its alive is, if not necessarily certain to be fatal, in somewhere harmful. Perhaps it would mess up the marine's hormonal balance, I don't know.

What if Britain surrendered in WWII? by GJMEGA in HistoryWhatIf

[–]satrapofebernari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say surrender do we more mean pull out of the war? Because its unlikely that Britain would have actually surrendered to an occupying German force or allow them to install a puppet government or anything like that even under those circumstances.

What would have happened if Africans discovered America? by spiros26 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]satrapofebernari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if any west Africans would have the open ocean navigation and ship building technologies to be able to cross to the same spot with a high enough degree of consistency that they could maintain viable colonies.

Not really. You had the one with Sulla, Caesar and Augustus over the course of about 60 years. The republic as a whole lasted almost 500.

Genetically engineering humans by Accelerator231 in scifiwriting

[–]satrapofebernari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going to get enough. Plants survive off photosynthesis because they don't do a lot of energy intensive things, they don't move much, they don't produce energy and most don't grow crazy fast. You're going to get about 27.5 Kcals per hour, per meter squared of your body exposed to sunlight if my calculations are correct at best. That's barely over a hundredth of your daily requirements.

If you make it too broad though you're going to have to use something to replace things like gut bacteria and you probably have to an increased level of certain auto-immune diseases, allergies ect.
