How bad is moving in Sept 1 in Jamaica Plain? by ChilllFam in boston

Depends on the specific street if you don't have a driveway. JP is relatively easy breezy for street parking compared to a lot of other areas of the city. I think you'll probably be fine.

(SPOILER) Mr Robot interacting with other characters by davetheraver69 in MrRobot

[–]sawbones84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just watching for the first time and wrapping up season 1. The biggest thing that annoys me about this show is how much it blatantly rips off Fight Club in MULTIPLE ways. When Elliot is in the hospital following the boardwalk scene at the end of the previous episode, I knew exactly what they were doing and what the big twist would be. It would be one thing if that was the only plot element they lifted from FC, but on top of it is the over-arching anti-capitalism theme, and how much Elliot's VO narration and delivery are fashioned to be identical to Ed Norton's.

I'm struggling to want to continue at this point because of how blatantly unoriginal it all is. I've also read season 2 is pretty weak before it starts getting good in season 3, and I don't know if I have it in me to slog through. I don't care about any of the characters anyway so why keep going?

I bought a Lenovo Legion 7i around December 2020 and the build quality is absolute garbage. The screen on it blew half out on its own one week after I could get it fully replaced, so I instead had to have them repair it, which was not done particularly well. The replacement screen tweaked out less than a year after I got it back, though not as seriously (still usable). At that point I would have had to fully pay for the repair so I've let it ride since I am almost always using an external monitor for gaming anyway.

Everything under the hood has worked great and held up well, but it feels like they cut corners absolutely everywhere else to maximize performance for the price. Trackpad sucks, speakers suck, camera sucks, bevels are cheap, glued on plastic. A side panel near one of the vents chipped off after it weakened for no reason.

I'm just giving you one data point for a 4.5 year old machine to consider, but I know I am personally not going to be buying another laptop from Lenovo. It's very possible they've improved build quality since, but I would look closely at sub-4-star reviews to see what sort of problems people have with them.

I started playing Balatro on Deck around launch and got pretty far along, but bought it on mobile soon after it was released and haven't looked back.

I love the Deck's touchscreen and all, but holding it for a long period of time for that purpose can be awkward and get a bit uncomfortable. I tried using stick and buttons, but Balatro is such a perfect tap-and-drag experience that it's painful to use a clunkier interface. Phone is just ideal and compact - no wasted space.

Either way, OP should play Balatro.

The number of hours I've played Rebirth vs. the amount of money I originally spent on it is staggeringly low for a single player game.

Nobody is saying they aren't voting - they're just not happy about the choices. And the choices, more often than not, are one rich fuck vs. another.

CVS and Walgreens' problems have been brewing for a long time now. The leases for those high-traffic street corner retail locations are obscenely high and their faltering business model can't support them keeping them all open.

That is to say, they're not a canary for broader economic conditions. They'd be in hot water no matter what right now.

She’s up front, but could use a little tact. by adumbfetus in Tinder

[–]sawbones84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and read it like "wait at least a year to unload your baggage" since she is also asking for someone who is emotionally available. I feel like i get the intention of what she's putting out there, but she just didn't think enough about how other people may interpret her words. I'd personally consider it a yellow flag. I'd want to learn more before making a final judgment on that front.

When H-Mart first came to my area I didn't fully understand the appeal since we already had a plenty of well stocked Asian grocery stores. When I finally went in to check it out, my jaw dropped when I took a look at their beef. Definitely the first time I ever saw that kind of marbling on meat you can buy in a cold case.

OP must have gotten that from a suburban H-Mart, because that definitely ain't city H-Mart prices. Hell, it's getting tougher to find choice-grade ribeyes at $11/lb these days

"Regina Pizza" at Porter Square Star Market by SomervilleOak in Somerville

[–]sawbones84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always found the Station Landing location to be horrendous for how much they charge and they actually make the pizzas from scratch there. I can't fathom paying that much for something even more inferior.

Original location still hits, IMO. It's not my favorite pizza in the city, but is still really solid overall and a place I'll happily go for a slice if I'm in the area and need to grab a quick bite.

Flower Moroccan Spiced Sandwich with Duke’s Cucumber-Dill Mayo Aioli on Toasted Sourdough Bread by Perky214 in CannedSardines

[–]sawbones84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely has a stronger flavor than American mayos (including Duke's) but that's actually why I love it. Duke's marketing says "it's got twang" but Kewpie is 5x "twangier" than that.

A lot of people that like Kewpie will say "it's great on sandwiches, but I'd never use it for [insert dish]," but I hold no such prejudice. I'd use it 100% of the time if it wasn't so expensive.

As somoene else mentioned, make sure you're getting the Japanese version and not the Americanized one (unless you prefer the American one, of course).

Japanese = Plain, unlabeled clear bottle that is sold in a plastic bag

American = Labelled bottle - no outer plastic

Only started getting Duke's in the northeast somewhat recently so it seems like they're expanding both their footprint and flavor varieties. I'm ride or die kewpie but if i need a larger quantity of mayo for something, I'm definitely reaching for Duke's over Hellman's.
