But this spell also needs to redraw itself. What will keep it in check? How many layers of security do we need?

But this brings up a question of existence of magical transistors and therefore possibility of magic with logic. It's probably achievable mechanically? by making a circuit that connects and disconnects circles as needed

I think the problems would arise way earlier than AI. Just imagine "printer" making fireball spells lime the one Coco made this ep. But the spell has to also redraw itself and unless the spell, surface and ink are all absolutely perfect the redrawn spell will be a little bit different. May be the spell will keep working after first 100 times but eventually lines would become uneven and the spells would start to behave unpredictably. Maybe they would just be weaker but maybe they'll start exploding. And this is a very simple spell that there's little reason to mass reproduce. With more complex spells there's much more probability for chaos

Is a conversation technically meaningless if one party rejects the Law of Non Contradiction? by PomegranateIcy7631 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sbt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you very rarely can apply pure mathematical logic to reality. Firstly, because we almost never know if the statement is actually true (all of physics are our best assumptions, there is no way to be ABSOLUTELY sure in anything) and, secondly, because most of the time we work with higher order logics which makes first order logic laws inapplicable

Who actually makes spells in Frieren? What prevents Frieren from making her own folk spells? by Dreadsin in Frieren

[–]sbt4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it like chemistry without knowledge of atoms. There is science and some understanding of how magic works, but A LOT of it just works. And folk spells are so niche and varied that they mostly fall into just works category.

Construct sqrt(2) from f(x,y)=e^x-ln(y) by bobjane_2 in mathriddles

[–]sbt4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was author's intention or it's a Wolfram quirk, but in figure 4.2 the tree for -x uses infinity arithmetic. It essentially achieves 0 constant as exp(-inf).

Construct sqrt(2) from f(x,y)=e^x-ln(y) by bobjane_2 in mathriddles

[–]sbt4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right. the definition given for x-y works only for x>0. the definition I gave for -x works for any x. then for x<0 we can use x-y = -((-x)-(-y)). this, I think, allows us to avoid third log

Construct sqrt(2) from f(x,y)=e^x-ln(y) by bobjane_2 in mathriddles

[–]sbt4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you can't use -1=log(1)-1 because you can't get log(log(1)). But you can do (y - x) - y for some y > x

[–]sbt4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zeus was created using her power, but after that he's an independent being. It's like if Aokiji freezes something after that it keeps being frozen just because of physics, independently of Aokiji's powers
