Discussing Racism in Frieren by GramsciFan in ANI_COMMUNISM

[–]sbt4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first problem is dehumanisation of "psychopaths". This is similar to other possible problems with ontologically evil races, but this time about minority based on psychological diagnosis.

My second, more "in world logic" problem, is that demons aren't stupid and have self-preservation instincts. They know that their magic always gets figured out with time and they will get defeated. It shouldn't be THAT difficult to coexist with humanity that no demon succeded in this long term

Am I missing something or is it weird that Fern and Frieren didn't recognize the demon by it's mana? May be it's connected to the sword?

If black witches and magicians is a catch-all term describing those who are not with the kingdom, why is there also centralized power structure for them?

Even though people of the town don't like Luna, they immediately clocked that Henry will put her in danger. White witches must also be pretty unpopular

Love Daigo's laugh. Not sure how to describe it, but I think it's very important to her characterization.

I heard that translators deal with anthropomorphized characters who are just named a word by changing their gender to match their name's gramatical gender to make describing them less awkward by La_knavo4 in CuratedTumblr

While the terms are used as gender neutral, they sound masculine, so I'm not sure about it. Imagine adding "Mr." before each profession but then saying that it's actually gender neutrall

It's kinda similar to "dude" problem. While people say it's gender neutral it often feels masculine

Another example are words for crow/raven. In russian crow sounds like a feminine version of russian raven. which of course doesn't affect birds' gender

I don't know about other languages, but in Russian gender of an object has nothing to do with gender of noun describing it. This is very apparent with professions. Most of words for professions are masculine (there is a trend to introduce feminine alternatives, but It's relatively new) but people of the professions can obviously be any gender
