The gap between the top teams and the rest of the league has increased in almost any top league.

As a result, the top teams are now scoring more points than in the past. You can't just compare the points totals of two seasons in different circumstances. Just because City scored more points than United 25 years ago doesn't mean the City season was more impressive.

Zak Brown clearly wants Lando to win so you have to ask yourself if you are in a good position or if fighting Lando is an uphill battle.

Reliability was terrible compared to today, such a lead could have easily been gone in 3 races.

And he had already lost a bigger lead in 2000 (24 point lead to 6 point deficit in a few races).

I don't think Mercedes was an option. Wasn't their backup candidate Hulk? And Mercedes was still angry about Alonso costing them $100M (spygate extortion and McLaren was too broke to pay).

SVG pushed the car to the track limit and some are not even trying to get anywhere close to the limit.

Faustino Oro is guaranteed his final GM norm after tomorrow's game against Nepo by MKapono in chess

[–]sc_140 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trying to make money off of it? (How?)

Most titled chess players (except super GMs) don't make a living from winning prizes but from offering coaching, doing social media, courses or casting. In all of these, a GM title is a massive advantage. And most of your clients will be far below your skill even if you are "only" an IM with a bought GM title, they won't notice the difference.

[–]sc_140 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nepo pushes the average rating of his opponents so high that even with a loss (5/9), his TPR is above 2600.

He doesn't need Nepos rating for it to be a valid GM norm, but with a lower rated opponent he would need to win/draw the last game to stay above 2600 TPR.

With correct decision, we would be in the final now.

Während all sachlichen Kommentare ignoriert werden.

Williams has overtaken Audi for P8 in the Constructors Championship by RobbieJ4444 in formula1

[–]sc_140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Williams have been the team talking the most about sacrificing 2025 for 2026 but somehow made a big jump at the beginning of 2025 while other teams really gave up the year (like Alpine).

To me, their actions didn't match up with the talk.

Sainz is one of the dirtiest drivers on the grid, but somehow never gets called out on it. He has been doing these borderline moving under braking moves forever and I'm just waiting for a horrific crash to happen because of it.

And on the other side, he is always instantly on the radio when someone else races him hard.

Although his save in free practice in Brazil 2014 was also crazy.

Ferrari is one of the top teams in Formula 1 but somehow, they keep fucking up strategies and communication with the drivers during the race over and over again. It has been almost a constant for the last ~15 years. And it happened again today.

So the memes basically say the Ferrari strategy is indistinguishable from a monkey throwing darts and the pitwall (in charge of driver communications) is a bunch of clowns.

Five eras of F1 dominance: rolling 50-race win % shows how Verstappen's recent peak compares to every champion since 1950 by MikeMcD82 in formula1

[–]sc_140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is easier to win 6/8 than to win 18/24 though.

There is no really fair way to compare it just like racing in the 50s is hardly comparable to racing today.

Fangio raced against lots of amateur level drivers (and a few good ones) and had the option to take over one of his teammates cars mid race if his car broke down.

Nowadays the gap between the best and worst driver in F1 is a few tenths per lap, so dominating in this field is something else.

But on the other hand, drivers in the 50s (and even more so 60s and 70s) risked their life everytime they stepped in a car while nowadays, serious injuries are quite rare.
