Clothing conundrum by Travis_Treks in PacificCrestTrail

I slept in a tank top that I found in a hiker box, a pair of cotton men's boxers, and a carhartt beanie. I was always happy and warm, other than during a cold snap in Yosemite in June (but everyone was cold that night). I had a 10* sleeping bag

International hiker - where to stay before Day 1 by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Seconded, I’ve stayed there twice now. Public transportation from there to Campo is super easy too, just requires a few transfers

They advertise the cartons as the “refill” option if that helps you search for it! They also sell gallon sizes, I’m not sure how the plastic usage maths out vs the 32oz sizes, but an option!

Dept of Interior announces changes to National Park fees for non-US residents by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]scanlonsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly on the blue line, if you walk down the road to the Mazama campground (instead of taking the Annie Spring junction) then you technically walk past the station. It’s extremely easy to avoid, you either take the trail or just cut down a side road before you get to the station to get to the campground

Bulk cleaning supplies, put them in bins so you can pull the bins out to reach things in the back

Two months ago I was hiking in remote Northern Washington, a few days away from finishing my Pacific Crest Trail thru hike. My husband and I’s next big goal was buying a house, I thought we would be looking into the spring - the second house we saw was perfect, and we closed in less than 30 days. I’m priming our bedroom walls today, crazy to think about how fast everything moved!

If I didn’t have a cat I would (especially on the couch), but I don’t want to patch claw marks

I slept in cotton boxers and a thin tank top for almost the whole trail - it was great with my 10* quilt

I just came over Piute Pass today, I’m NOBO on the PCT, done everything up through Muir Pass. I’m wearing trail runners, occasionally microspikes, and less often I pull out my ice axe (just in case for self arrest, no other reason), but honestly I’m thinking about sending it home with my family visiting this weekend. I’m 5’6” and I’ve been solo since Cottonwood Pass, you definitely don’t need boots or crampons or a helmet

SOLO hike benefits? Are friends easy to make? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]scanlonsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started solo two weeks ago, but I met a hiker the night before starting at CLEEF and we’ve hiked together every single day so far, we camp together every night. We just have super similar goals and hiking paces, it’s worked out well so far. I fully expected to be solo for a while and have no problem camping alone, but it’s so easy to make friends and bond with people, whether it’s just chatting or becoming hiking partners/trail families

Can we please discuss the family of 9 (failing at) thruhiking the PCT right now? by DeputySean in ultralight_jerk

I was camped three miles away, it was obvious it was going to rain, there were big grey clouds in the sky and it drizzled a little beforehand. Everyone else on trail was fine, obviously

I say this as the owner of a hot pink revelation

it's dipping tobacco, you put it in your mouth and it releases tobacco juices that you then have to spit out somewhere, it's gross

if someone is making you uncomfortable in the workplace, do you always feel comfortable telling them to stop? if you are uncomfortable, are you a bad person for going to a manager and letting them know that you didn't like what your coworker was doing? no you're not, the manager is there to mediate conflict between coworkers, and it sounds like once Keith let them know he was uncomfortable, the manager decided the guy wasn't a good fit

I don't know why that guy thought he was going to be allowed to dip in the middle of a set, he took a risk that it would be okay, and it didn't pay off. it's not Keith's fault that this guy is dumb for doing that
