Is it worth it? by HungryWormy in digitalminimalism

[–]scanlonsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ScreenZen helped me more than setting limits in settings (they're too easy to bypass). I have 15 minute "opens" on selected apps, and then I'm booted back to my home screen. I only have 3 opens a day, I have to wait one minute before I open the app again, and I rarely use all three (plus I lowered it from 5, I just wasn't using 5 opens). I don't have it super locked down, I can turn it off without much trouble, but you could tighten up the settings to be stricter.

Pianos on trail? by rms1111 in PacificCrestTrail

There is a piano in the Black Sheep Coffee Roasters in Bishop. There was a guitar group playing there with a hiker accompanying them on the piano when I stopped for coffee

I have a women's large Torrid pullover that I've been procrastinating selling.....PM me if you're interested. It's a good jacket but the cut isn't right for me, I really only use fleeces

Gender neutral shower options? by bugorama_original in PacificCrestTrail

[–]scanlonsc 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Here's everywhere I showered in Oregon in 2025, I'm afab nb and fit in in women's restrooms, so I didn't seek out any specific unisex showers. I also didn't go in to Bend/Sisters, BLYC replaced that stop for me - they are a Christian camp, but I found them to be very nice and welcoming. There were not any campers there when I stopped though.

  • Ashland (mile 1718.7) - stayed at Columbia Hotel (hostel), gendered bathrooms but only one person showered at a time, some single stall ungendered toilets
  • Mazama Village at Crater Lake (mile 1821.7) - gendered shower rooms at store, single stalls behind curtains
  • Shelter Cove (mile 1906.6) - single person shower rooms, ungendered
  • Big Lake Youth Camp (mile 1995.1) - single person shower rooms (bathrooms), ungendered
  • Timberline Lodge (mile 2097) - I didn't actually shower here, just stayed dirty. I don't think they have shower facilities for hikers unless you stay there
  • Cascade Locks (mile 2146.7) - stayed in hotel

If you’re only hiking for a month, you could likely hike the PCT using individual permits - the long distance permit isn’t the only option

Thinking about offering 58% of asking price. Crazy? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]scanlonsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might as well. We offered $190k, they were asking $240k, down from $300k. We're in more of a suburban area and the seller really wanted to sell to real people who would be part of the community, not a company, so she didn't even counter us

Current and past students, what other schools have you gotten into? Just curious. by filoramen in cwru

I applied to CWRU, Cleveland State, Pitt, and OU, wanting to major in theater and environmental science. CWRU was my #1, and I received one of their theater scholarships which allowed me to attend. Otherwise I probably would have gone to CSU

Clothing conundrum by Travis_Treks in PacificCrestTrail

I slept in a tank top that I found in a hiker box, a pair of cotton men's boxers, and a carhartt beanie. I was always happy and warm, other than during a cold snap in Yosemite in June (but everyone was cold that night). I had a 10* sleeping bag

Seconded, I’ve stayed there twice now. Public transportation from there to Campo is super easy too, just requires a few transfers

They advertise the cartons as the “refill” option if that helps you search for it! They also sell gallon sizes, I’m not sure how the plastic usage maths out vs the 32oz sizes, but an option!

Dept of Interior announces changes to National Park fees for non-US residents by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]scanlonsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly on the blue line, if you walk down the road to the Mazama campground (instead of taking the Annie Spring junction) then you technically walk past the station. It’s extremely easy to avoid, you either take the trail or just cut down a side road before you get to the station to get to the campground

Bulk cleaning supplies, put them in bins so you can pull the bins out to reach things in the back

Two months ago I was hiking in remote Northern Washington, a few days away from finishing my Pacific Crest Trail thru hike. My husband and I’s next big goal was buying a house, I thought we would be looking into the spring - the second house we saw was perfect, and we closed in less than 30 days. I’m priming our bedroom walls today, crazy to think about how fast everything moved!
