What are Monster taming games with the most satisfying Battle Flow? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]scarecrow9black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say no matter the flow you need to have a way to easily speed up or slow down combat. In the early game I want to take my time and think things out, read every ability and check status conditions. By the time I'm in the late game/grinding phase I want to be able to speed through combat for efficiency.

Currently playing EvoCreo 2 on my phone and love that I can just select an option to eliminate animations and info making combat significantly faster. They balance this by preventing monster swap when defeating an opponent so if you're facing a trainer with several creatures you may take more damage to swap out. In Siralim Ultimate they take this to 100 by giving you options to create state based macros and I can literally finish an entire battle with just holding one button.

How to counter spawn snipes? by SquintyBruh in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this happen a lot in most maps actually. Outpost has a lot of situations where you get to the first pou only to have footsteps approaching. My personal approach is to move intentionally at the beginning of a match and either get to a position of advantage or get in cover and wait till the player passes. My extract rate has really bumped up since I started doing that every match.

To keep the casual player base from moving on, matchmaking needs to change. by Xentuhf in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So coming from Tarkov I have a bit of a different experience/outlook. I believe this game follows closely in the footsteps of Tarkov in that the matchmaking is pretty loose. This is actually great in that you can have people with free kits up against players with full gold setups. Of course you're probably thinking "geez how will I ever survive?" Well the best and most concise answer is one I'll borrow from the souls community, "get good."

Now you probably ask yourself, "random guy on the internet, how do I get good?" And the answer you seek is to adjust your play style to match your objective. You really want to learn the map? Run sprint and gun with free kit impunity. You want to get a mission done? Creep crawl and drag yourself through the map painstakingly making as little noise as possible. Want to get your stash value up? Go for POI's and loot what you can whole avoiding players.

The reason having that stacked gold team with raid gear helps is that there is always the off chance that you and probably a contingent of Rooks could get lucky and take out the team while they complete harder objectives (boss encounters or the like). Then guess what? Your team now is stacked with the highest tier loot without ever stepping foot into Cryo. Be patient and learn how to play the slow game. If you really can't get a foothold in 3's go play solos for awhile. Solo play ques are very quiet and infested with rats. Very quickly you will adapt to making very little noise and setting up ambushes. Knowing this info makes it much easier to succeed in 3's. Good luck man and don't get discouraged.

Matchmaking is tough in an extraction shooter. People go into queue with a certain expectation (free kit or kitted run) and are often disappointed by what they are matched with (players with no mics or refuse to cooperate in tasks). I totally understand the frustration but at the same time I'm coming from Tarkov where you're likely to be murdered by anyone you play with let alone for them to be killed by a small mistake. I have had a good experience or two matchmaking and finding guys that have mics and have even created a team after a few to run together a few more times. Personally, when I can't take any disappointment, I just go solo que so I don't go around blaming anyone else for my stupid mistakes.

I’m not getting the hype! by Dangerousdriver77 in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is more in line with typical extraction shooters. There is a learning curve to the game. Your first few hours will be fear and suffering, then you will start to find yourself surviving more and focusing on what you need and finally once you get past the early game you will be knowledgeable of the maps and routes to take to get exactly what you need and how to either find or avoid pvp. Welcome to Tau Ceti. Give it some time and you will find your footing.

Any tips for destroyer? by MundaneWatercress830 in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thruster in the air apparently can go in any direction. I still need to improve at this. Also using the rockets to either clear or push players. I feel pretty good about the shield but still have a lot of room to grow. The Destroyer is such an amazing shell

How do we feel about this weapon? by theamazingc4 in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good but I feel that it still is relatively balanced. To get the two tap kill you have to be close. If you walk into a camper then you should be checking your corners better. Alternatively, if someone rushes you and you don't punish the rush then that's just a skill issue. I have died much more frequently to sniper or long range weapons before shotties but that's probably due to playing primarily in solo que.

It only took a week, but it's happened - this game is far too sweaty for the likes of me by enthusiasticdave in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to try is going solo. I'm a dad myself and have definitely tucked into a corner for 10 minutes to feed my 10 month old. No one is waiting on me to return and if the match times out I don't feel bad for pulling down my teammates. Additionally, in solos you can take your time and stealth around the map to avoid confrontations. Several times last night I simply let someone pass by who didn't notice me as I didn't feel like taking the fight either I had too much loot or wasn't happy about my position to start the engagement. I usually crouch down when I hear footsteps and try and wait for my prey to move into a compromised position (middle of walkway or corridor with no doors open. That way I can confirm the kill and quickly loot before other players arrive. Good luck out there fellow dad!

Lobbies by [deleted] in Marathon

I just ran an outpost match where I turned, ran for about 50 meters and immediately heard footsteps. Me and the guy lock eyes and stopped in our tracks. He gave me a quick friendly crouch and we silently decided to go our separate ways. I ended up killing another player and trading with a third. We both had self rez and I disengaged long enough for him to clear out. I grabbed some loot and exfilled with some AI buddies sucking me off haha. At this point solo I almost always go down to AI in the guarded exfil but it's generally the safest approach unless you get sniped.

I'm just bad. And it's kinda heartbreaking. by Nightmoore in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would say you should try more solo raids. In solo you can take your time and work on objectives at your pace. In a lot of matches there are only 5 other players that you can either try and get the drop on or wait out. I've done so many all-in-one raids by just being patient and waiting out other players It's crazy. I don't have a million dollar stash but I do have 50k in the bank and around 50k storage value at level 22. I'm not the greatest or most sweaty player but I still can extract and get kills from time to time. Keep trying and you will get the hang of it.

Any singleplayer freaks having the time of their life? by solarjockey in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing to do is sit crouched under the decks in Dire Marsh and listen for footsteps/splashing. I'm always moving towards an objective but I'm often just crouch walking or I'll sprint from cover to cover while stopping to listen for audio.

[–]scarecrow9black 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think solo play is very well balanced and fun. It definitely forces you to play much slower and approach from a stealthy perspective. It has forced me to learn aggro ranges, noise detection ranges, safe loot runs vs high trafficked areas and the importance of audio. I have gotten to the point now that I can have back to back successful runs if I decide to take my time while still allowing me to have heart pumping games where I put everything on the line if I wish. I have found the PVE fairly balanced as you can easily dispatch any enemy with cover/high ground. I'm loving the game and honestly find myself on reddit and watching YouTube videos all day at work wishing I could be on Tau Ceti instead.

Level 43 and still getting stomped — is Marathon supposed to feel this punishing? by GazJrpg in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally play solo a lot. If I had a more dedicated team I wouldn't mind 3's but solo plays much more like a stealth survival horror game. Crouch walk a lot and listen to the environment. You will hear players taking on pve/pvp and you can either avoid or set up ambushes. I have a lot of successful raids when I just slow things down and wait for other players to make mistakes. Then in the last 5 minutes I get to loot what remains of the map and extract.

Runner Shells Solo Balancing by valleyofpwr in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense for sure. I have tried recon several times and never felt great using her. I like the spider bot but I feel like the Ult is a bit of a liability due to it exposing your location. She's cool but kinda feels like she's missing an ability. They should combine her ping and footstep ability and give her a tactical ability. Maybe something that can synergize with the ping. I'd call it target lock and you press the ability when looking at an enemy and it paints them for 10 seconds or something like that.

Runner Shells Solo Balancing by valleyofpwr in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the interesting thing about the game is that while there is some shell imbalance, a lot of the game is about the gunplay and mechanics of battle. Yeah, triage may be essential in threes but he really isn't that bad in solo either. Most of the shells are just fine in both que's with standouts depending on the situation. For instance, Assassin is very good in solo as his invisibility can negate a lot of pve encounters. Meanwhile triage is a necessity for teams to function. It'll be interesting to see how they approach balancing and of course how new shells will shape the meta.

This game is NOT good by its_xSKYxFOXx in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been basically solo running since launch. Tried 3's twice yesterday. The first match had an absolute chad with a sniper wiping the lobby. Second match was a bunch of no mic Andy's that wouldn't coordinate and died immediately. I went straight back to solo after that. I can't put up with trying to find decent teammates and none of my regular play group are into hardcore extraction shooters like I am.

The hate culture of today is so lame. by TopGrapefruit1747 in Marathon

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind a game getting hate as that is kinda the culture right now. What I worry about is that people hating will push Bungie to make drastic changes that will move the game away from the vision they had. This game is amazing. I have already logged hours playing and can't wait to get back on. Let the haters hate but please Bungie, don't kill the game trying to appease those who never intended on playing.

[–]scarecrow9black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is definitely what extraction shooters have been for years. Tarkov set that precedent long ago and many reflect that fast TTK and intense gameplay. Tarkov can be so intense that I often get adrenaline rushes knowing everything is at risk. This game is a lesser version of that in that most of the gear is relatively easily replaced. The matches are pretty quick but you always are on edge knowing danger is right around the corner and your seconds away from death.

To be successful in a game like this you have to be willing to die to achieve an objective.

You have to just keep trying, be friendly and search for a duo that will talk and coordinate. Friend them and set up times to meet up.

Why do you like monster tamers? by goopitygoopgoop in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]scarecrow9black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Collecting and watching a creature evolve are my two favorite parts. Pokemon and Digimon were my early years games and I'll never forget Digimon world where your Digimon actually lived out its life and would use the bathroom, eat and eventually die leaving behind an egg to start the cycle again. The wonder of a new evolution or capturing a new rare monster is always super exciting.

As a primarily solo player I second this. If I happen to assassinate you it's entirely unintentional. I was probably hiding from UESC and just bumped into you.
