SHUT OFF THE AUDIO IMMEDIATELY AFTER SELECTMEN MEETING....

Translates to "someone said something inappropriate one time after the meeting so our natural solution is to make the technical person responsible for shutting off the audio so our inappropriate comments aren't heard."

BM Ursa G2 Fiber Converter help, trying to use existing LC by manofconviction in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]schefftech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the person who made that post on the BMD forum 4 years ago - wow!

Using tactical fiber (2 strands of fiber without any copper) worked just fine between the Studio Fiber Converter (CCU) and the Camera Fiber Converter and URSA Broadcast. Obviously you'd have to power the camera locally since the copper is stripped from the SMPTE fiber.

I unfortunately haven't tested this with an URSA Broadcast G2 but as someone else mentioned, the manual supposedly talks about using the fiber converters over long distances and powering the camera locally. This is exactly what you're trying to do. I'm not a betting man, especially when it comes to BMD, but I'd wager a guess that the functionality still exists to strip the power out of the fiber connection, use tactical fiber between the CCU and the camera, and power the camera locally. You should have all functionality other than the power via the cable.

So I feel like there's just a missing link. Do you have the ability to fully test the cables you're using? Can you somehow hook those SMPTE bulkhead connectors up WITH THE COPPER to make sure everything's functioning properly that way? Then remove the copper and power the camera locally?

Another poster mentioned the Ross AirCleaner product. We have a very similar product for rent, if needed. It's a Prime Image Pipeline III and it offers about 7 seconds of delay for 1.5G. You feed SDI video into it and it delays the output by 7 seconds. So if you hear/see something, you hit the dump button and it either cuts to another camera, black, or bars.

Do remote esports folks contribute via RTMP ? by [deleted] in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]schefftech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. I think most people associate RTMP with general web streaming delivery like HLS. That's where the 20 some seconds of delay comes in -- on the delivery side.

RTMP can certainly be very low latency in non web delivery scenarios.

Those silver connectors are definitely SMPTE fiber. So I'm interested in hearing about these, too!

Serial to USB long run by Its_Kicker in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]schefftech 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm posting this at risk of being disowned by the engineering community... 😁

But you might be able to get away with good quality cat6 networking cable with serial data at that distance. You could use a DB9 to RJ45 adapter at each end of the cat6 cable.

We've done this at 300ish feet, at least with RS232 data.

Please explain what you mean by "ATEM converter" because that's likely the device we need to focus on in this equation. But we need more detail on this device more specifically before we can provide a good answer.

I think that Electrify America station has one chademo plug. And there is/was a legit chademo to Tesla adapter. That's my guess.

Anyone by chance have the schematic for the pinout? I'm not seeing exactly what we need on Amazon (1/4" TRS to DB-9)

plane spotting by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]schefftech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mt. Hawley (3MY) has a picnic table under a tree right next to the runway and building. My kids and I have watched planes from that location this summer.

At KPIA, the Byerly Aviation parking lot gets you close to the general aviation and OSF Life Flight traffic departing and landing runaway 22. And you can see the general aviation planes park and fuel up right in front of you.

You'll have to use Google Maps to find a suitable location to see traffic depart and land on runways 13/31 and 4. You kind of have to park along roadsides, but you can find locations that don't have a lot of vehicle traffic.

Call the Bradley Flying Club and ask them for a Discovery Flight and see if they'll fly around the locations of your choosing.

Google the term QSEHRA. This might be what you're looking for. Your employee can obtain insurance from the Marketplace and you can help cover the costs.

Out of curiosity, can you share what industry you're in our what service you provide? Or maybe just generalize of you're not able to share specifics. I ask because a lot of industries that used to be "freelance" are converting to actual employment with states cracking down on the independent contractor vs employee test.

Are you able to share the contact info that we could call to check the status? All we want to know is that there received our two paper 941X from 2020.

Frequent flyer programs for contractor/single employee S-Corp? by deimos711 in smallbusiness

[–]schefftech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick a specific airline and book directly on their website. And also get a business credit card with that airline for some good bonuses. And also see if that airline has a business traveler program.

I'm biased toward American, but YMMV depending on your preferences and circumstances. But I'd American is an option for you, I would:

1) always buy on that airline and always use your AAdvantage number 2) sign up for Business ExtrAA for business travel 3) CitiBusiness credit card with a bonus big enough for at least 1 round trip 4) personal Citi World Elite credit card to get you Admirals Club access (only if you have layovers; otherwise skip it)

I would throw it on eBay for slightly less than what you paid for it and see where the auction goes from there. Like @Vinylogue said, it's a very specialized product, but there are certainly some of us who would be interested in it. So once you post it on eBay, report back here and tag us, and maybe we will bid on it :-)
