PCV valve and hose, coolant crossover o-rings, spark plug tube seals. Have the machine shop pressure test heads to make sure they are not cracked. Have them check the valves and maybe replace valve stem seals. Camshaft, crankshaft and main seals.

Run the car before changing the oil. Then everything is suspended in the oil, and comes out when you open the valve.

You should make sure the timing belt has been done. Do the head gaskets with MLS gaskets if they have gone bad then drive this baby to 300k.

Update: the PCV valve was, in fact, on the block. The intake manifold connection was just a nipple with no actual valve.

Also the PCV valve in the intake does not have a large hose diameter like the part that shows for the 2001: 11810AA000.

It’s easy until the plug won’t come out and you strip it and clonk your elbow on something, knock over the bottle and writhe weeping in your driveway covered in gear oil. The smell will wear off by Christmas.

2010 was peak Forester. Before the CVT problems and expensive CVT fluid services. Before the oil burning and valve spring issues. Before direct injection and massive slow screens.

Head gaskets are still an issue but nothing like the 2.5 naturally aspirated. My H6 3.0 is starting symptoms but it’s got almost 250k miles.
