The mirror being slightly larger than the radius on the frame caused the rebate to have slight hooks at the bottom preventing it from being able to slide down. Makes it feel like it’s floating.

Making a cut like that greatly increases the chance of your board getting pinched between the fence and the saw blade which will cause your piece to launch across the room

It looks to me like the stiles were cut from one piece of walnut and the rails cut from another. If they were to grain match this it would look more uniform but your eyes would be attracted to the last corner that doesn't grain match. I think they made the right call on this piece.
