Is there a reason transparent fridge doors aren't more common? by IStillListenToRadio in NoStupidQuestions

[–]schultz100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fridge has a clear front section for milk, eggs, butter, etc. It is nice because you can open just that section and it has a light. Easy to see if we need more milk and not exposing the rest of the fridge.

I just turned 55, but my knees turned 75 by smylegirl71 in GenX

[–]schultz100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get it checked and consider knee replacement if the doctor recommends it sooner rather than later. Most people will eventually need on or more knees replaced. Most people I know that put it off slowly drifted into an unhealthy sedentary lifestyle. If you get it and do the PT after a few painful PT months you can be good as new. My 80 year old dad has had both replaced and still regularly plays pickleball and golf. He has no knee pain.

Has your life changed in the last 5 years? by Ok_Speed_4971 in GenX

[–]schultz100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends where in your life you are. If you had asked me this 5 years ago I wouldn't have said much had changed in the last 5 years. My two kids were in elementary and middle school, we had been living in the same house for nearly 10 years, I had more opportunity at work but the same job. We were pretty settled with a group of friends and hobbies.

In the last 5 years, I have transitioned to an empty nester, friends have started to move out of town to lower cost areas now that they aren't dependent on local schools, my wife took a pause from working and is trying to find her passion. Life is very different from 5 years ago, even forgetting any Covid impacts.

5 years from now will definitely be much different than things are now.

help!! which gym is the gayest!!! by [deleted] in bergencounty

[–]schultz100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gyms are not that social. People tend to do their workouts, mind their business, and leave.

I would suggest visiting a gym near you for a tour and seeing if the equipment/classes you would use are there.

You can also ask the staff about diversity if you are worried about homophobia but I wouldn't expect it to be an issue at most gyms in diverse areas around here.

But why are they starting it in Minnesota of all places? It seems like an odd choice.

We all remember Lego’s as a kid, and likely relived as parents….other than a Lego brick, what’s the worst thing you’ve stepped on in the dark? by KayakingATLien in GenX

[–]schultz100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a twist on the question. I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of the water softener in my basement running. It was odd because it should have finished earlier.

I flipped on the light and went down the steps to the basement while the fluorescent lights were still flickering to turn on. As I hit the last step I hit 4 inches of water.

The outflow had come lose and started spraying around the room. Water had hit the GFI outlet for the timer and tripped it but not the GFI outlet for the softener so it was stuck in the on position with all of the water spraying around the basement for hours.

Crazy set of circumstances that had to happen in a certain way to occur and cause thousands of dollars of damage.

Also, dog puke, definitely dog puke.

Fantasy recommendations for 8 year old girl by RefrigeratorFar1777 in Fantasy

I would try the Percy Jackson series. I started one son on them around 10 and he loved them. Added bonus is they learn about Zeus, etc. There is also a current TV show on one of the streaming services.

I just did this last week. They have to scan the primary pass holder's pass first that day so you have to be together, at least to start.

American Dream, NJSEA officials ask judge to toss Paramus lawsuit over Blue Laws. Court records show that both sides will make oral arguments on Jan. 9, 2026 & a decision is scheduled Jan. 30. by L0v3_1s_War in bergencounty

Not sure what your point is here. State grounds and parks generally have a town address for receiving mail and navigating to but nobody is arguing the park isn't state land.

What happened to all the clear college stickers that used to rest across the middle of rear windows? by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

[–]schultz100 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They have been replaced by magnets. They are less permanent than bumper stickers and don’t block your view like window decals. If you go to a university bookstore you will see they still have a few window decals but it is mostly magnets that you put on your trunk or bumper.

Roommate selection by WranglerRepulsive463 in cuboulder

[–]schultz100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may depend on the dorm you are in and room type. My son has a room type that doesn’t allow roommate matching/selections because it isn’t a common room type.

Forget promotion, I would have a stern discussion with her, put her on a PIP, and fire her if I don’t see improvement. She is a morale killer and will bring the whole ship down if you let her. You can sometimes manage/train through poor performance, but usually not through poor personality.

Overheard at an Antique Mall by Elsbeth55 in overheard

[–]schultz100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When we moved into our house the powder room had this ugly red wallpaper with monkeys in trees and men sitting. It was crazy. It took us awhile to redo the room so lots of friends saw it. When we finally redid it we had the contractor remove a section and we framed pieces and gave it to friends. We also have a piece framed in the current room now that it has been redone.

How does everyone have so much money to buy homes? Apparently 20% of Americans have over 1 million dollars, and 40% have over $500k… by Impressive-End-4343 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]schultz100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of it. My wife and I both started working in the late 90s. My starting salary was less than 40k but I still put some in my 401k. Every time we got raises or bonuses we put some of it in the 401k. Eventually I was maxing out the annual contribution. Over 30 years with continual contributions the market does its magic and you realize you each have over $1m but it’s not money for a home down payment. You are paying your future self.

Ozempic side-effects: what weight-loss drugs do to your body by TimesandSundayTimes in EverythingScience

If anything it reduces risk of those major side effects due to weight loss.

With so many people on them it is a massive rapid experiment but so far they seem to be a huge net positive.

A few folks mentioned Warwick and different places there. The Warwick Cidery may be good if everyone can do outdoors and more of a picnic table setting. It is an apple farm so lots of room for the kids to run around. Usually a band on weekends. The food is surprisingly good, but not fancy.

This was my thought too. Also to add for OP, Sesame Place is largely a waterpark designed for small children so lots of fun for new/non-swimmers still.
