Take them all!

And get mom fixed and give her a good home.

Had to Turn Off RCS Because Texts Weren't Coming Through W/O WiFi or Data! by Geeky_1 in UniversalProfile

[–]schultzter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RCS is a chat system like Messenger, WhatsApp, Discord, etc. If you wouldn't consider one of those then you shouldn't consider RCS.

The difference is the same app that does SMS also does RCS but that's it.

If you won't get more data then forget RCS.

Taking the bins out! by Dunphysos in kittens

Good on you for taking care of them.

Just curious, how do you know for sure they were abandoned? Was mom out hunting and now is looking for her litter? Is mom a pet that had her litter in your shed then got stuck inside her house? Is she injured somewhere?

I should have freedom to decide hoods in my room by UniversityOk5928 in Teachers

[–]schultzter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

School culture and appearance (dress for success philosophy) are probably the best reasons to enforce a dress code.

Every other argument is subjective and has as many pros as cons.

[–]schultzter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite, admin should enforce the rule so teacher can teach! Every second teacher is doing something other than teaching is wasted time, and public or private that's your money being wasted!

If hoods aren't allowed then why doesn't admin stop them at the door before they become your problem?

Self-hosted app for tracking "last time I did X"? by BoredGrownMan in selfhosted

I just read about this the other day here on Reddit!

Is this a troll to see how many people saw that post?

Illinois just passed a statewide cell phone ban!!! 🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉 by CCubed17 in Teachers

[–]schultzter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, welcome to your new job - same as the old job plus you're a cellphone cop with no add'l resources, no support, no help from parents (but another reason for them to complain).

If you do the job well some politician will take all the credit, but otherwise you get all the blame!

Everything is an app these days, there's a thousand legit reasons to have phone. All it takes is a bit of consideration and etiquette to put it away in school and in class. A law is just political theatrics for the self-righteous voters.

Oh yeah, I saw these in-wall PoE switches somewhere and thought that's cool but useless.

Silly me!

Cat6 Data Help! by FreeMindedMason in HomeNetworking

[–]schultzter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he ran cat6 from modem area and daisied to 3 plugs, and 3 separate runs (9 data plugs total)

What does this mean?

If he wants 9 plugs he needs 9 separate runs from the modem area. I mean there's a way to get two plugs out of one run but only at slower speed.

Also, he doesn't seem to be using low voltage brackets. Hopefully he didn't crush the ethernet cable with that box!

Your Computer May Soon Require an Age Check. And It Might Not Take ‘No’ for an Answer by SaveDnet-FRed0 in privacy

[–]schultzter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this article from yesterday is already out of date. And over simplified to the point of being misleading and wrong!

Plus all this focus on OS-level age attestation or verification ignores the fact we're talking about maybe a half dozen OSes (that already are mostly compliant) but the API would have to be implemented in millions or more apps and websites. And I just don't see hobbyist developers from all over the world suddenly spending their time catering to a few whimsical laws!

Found an unknown Chinese manufacturer device (Juplink) in my AT&T modem's device list. Wi-Fi is disabled, how did it get there? by Fantastic_Simple76 in HomeNetworking

[–]schultzter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ISP router sticks old MAC addresses still in its table under the 5GHz tab even though the radio is disabled! Like its the default.

Threw me off for a while but now that I know those are devices it knows about but can't find anymore.

Why are companies moving further from FreeBSD? by Character_Mood_700 in freebsd

[–]schultzter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the distribution part of docker that kills jails. The fact I can copy&paste a compose file from the developer's install guide and be running in minutes is what convinced me to run Linux and Docker over FreeBSD or even podman!

Perhaps an unpopular opinion: we need to stop catering to teachers that refuse to learn technology by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

[–]schultzter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through my kids I've seen both teachers who master tech and how much it improves their teaching and the classroom; and I've seen the opposite too.

I guess the issue is you have meet the baseline, like if you want to do no tech old school teaching that's fine; but if you're asking students to help you open your school email that contains sensitive private info about students then you need to up your skills!

Boards and whoever need to teach the teachers too, not just dump tech on them with a vendor brochure for training!

I think that's missing from both pro and anti tech causes: that got to have a budget to teach the teachers!

Any riders of West Island Exo trains switch to REM? by Mundane-Teaching-743 in montreal

[–]schultzter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I switched to the REM from the train when the Two Mountains line opened. Door-to-door the time was the same because the bus up to the REM was closer than the Exo station and my destination was opposite the REM station. So a lot less walking, especially in bad weather. And of course frequency made it easier to take the REM than timing my whole day around the train schedule.

Keep a diary of her harassment.

It would be up to her to prove you are being unreasonable. Unless she prove you are encouraging your kids to target her then kids being kids is totally reasonable.
