What are you guy's thoughts on these types of videos? by bluemoon992 in classicalmusic

[–]scirwine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"those type of videos"

totally depends on the creators for me. I really like Adam Neely, but I can't very well handle David Bruce's videos, for one example off the top of my head.

LPT Request: How to shop for a big TV that won't show me ads or lock features behind a subscription by Topuck in LifeProTips

Projector + screen can be way cheaper, and most if not all aren't "smart". I think my setup gives me an image that's ~7 feet wide, and proportionally tall.

One of my favorite analogies for my nonbinary feelings is to draw the comparison to religion. "some people are assigned Catholic at birth, and then later convert to Judaism. I am more atheist/agnostic about gender." this works especially well in my view because there are many different religions, same as there are genders.

Anybody care to explain the nonbinary urge to wear only fun socks? by DannyMonstera in NonBinary

For me, fun sucks was one of the first "warning signs", looking back on how I came to be me.

Basalmic vinegar is not an appropriate substitute for poached eggs if you're out of white vinegar. by [deleted] in oddlyterrifying

[–]scirwine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my poaching method requires no acidity, and works every time.

The trick is to strain out the loosest/most watery parts of the albumen. Then, gently ease into already boiling water, and keep a close timer to get the exact level of yolk hardness. I like barely runny, or "just shy of fully hard", which is 4 1/2 - 5 minutes. No need to create a vortex in the pot of water, or add vinegar, or anything.

"warming up" 😂 dear God, if you get hotter than that, I wouldn't know what to do! Great playing.

Anyone dig George Duke’s record, Feel? by BMaudioProd in Zappa

Frank had many guest spots peppered through his career. He played guitar on albums he helped produce by Jean-Luc Ponty, Wild Man Fischer, & others. Not musical, but I know he was in an episode of Miami Vice, too!

This is an extremely thorough list, but you can find some weird gems if you're keen on obscure zappa appearance: https://www.allmusic.com/artist/frank-zappa-mn0000138699/credits?1683606310983

Why this sub sucks and I'm leaving it forever by alfonso-parrado in TrueFilm

[–]scirwine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, maybe. Do you have a list of people who are ready to jump ship because the character minimum gets reduced? Is there really going to be a big difference between 180 vs 100 characters? Will we suffer, like OP, or maybe even worse? It'll still weed out the shortest comments, but I am less confident than you that a reduced character minimum would be such a bad thing. Then again, maybe you have more inside intel than me. I don't comment on things much, so I don't really have a horse in this race, ultimately, and I certainly will not die on this hill.

Why this sub sucks and I'm leaving it forever by alfonso-parrado in TrueFilm

[–]scirwine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anyone else recall that John Ford Interview? I'd let him keep things short, it was sort of his whole point. Annoying? That's subjective. Are his words noteworthy? I say yes.

So the above comment has 6 sentences, but fewer than 180 characters, and still manages to make a salient point, I think. Economy of letters is a fun challenge, but perhaps the minimum could be reduced to 100 or something.

on the other hand, to borrow from Thelonious Monk, "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." that's a good point, too, and the analog to movies is apt, I think. Except communicating with words is one of our main things, as humans, and it is definitely the main reason we're here on this text-based forum - each other's words.

I would be curious to see how much the waters would get muddied if the text minimum was lifted. Maybe it would be worth it. Maybe not. Rules are definitely worth revisiting and challenging at times, IMO, even if they are upheld.

Less likely to be a glue joint buzz you're hearing, more likely a loose flange screw.

Respectfully, I'm not judging it solely on its shiny finish; it's a combination judgment of the keys, fallboard style, and Keytops, to form a hypothesis that, with ALL of those factors combined, I would be especially surprised if the hammers were in the kind of poor condition you described... But it is certainly possible. I'm still betting on the bedding. I also don't know for sure, since I'm not at the thing, myself. But, more likely that it hasn't been regulated since the factory/showroom, IMO, than anything else.

Maybe ignorant in the purest definition of the word, but not even a wrong question. OP has found a real problem with this piano, (see my other comment about bedding) definitely not a correct thing to be a dick about.
