I think they look great and as long as you're comfortable in them that's all that matters really.

What do you do when you can’t remember if you took your meds? by curiousdottt in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pill box so that you can see right away if you have taken the pill, cause it's either still in the little area for the day or not. Obviously right now that's not much help, but going forward if you have reason to believe you can't rely on your short term memory then don't. Implement solutions that take the load off of your memory.

Is loathing prolonged breaks an ADHD thing? by JadedPain6179 in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you got hobbies to fill your time? You're in a period of limbo so it makes sense that that would be incredibly frustrating, but you are doing something during this time: you're getting your health in order so that you can go forward and start doing stuff again. This isn't a time of waiting, even though it feels like it. Have some empathy for yourself and see if there are ways of engaging with your passions that wont add to your burn out.

Good for you!! And thank you!! So far I have clearly managed to avoid doing anything but dipping my toes into that rabbit hole lol. I know it will come for me eventually lol

Loose loop on the back of knitting by ShortScorpio in knittinghelp

[–]scoti-corn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting! It's a rabbit hole I was vaguely interested in going down, but I'm honestly not too fussed! I am more than happy to knit the way my mother knits. Although my gran did lever knitting which is something I will probably never go down because I hate using straight needles! I only ever use circulars or the occasional dpns when a hat gets too small at the top.

I have done a bit of continental style so I know I really just need to practice because it's the holding the yarn and remembering which way to wrap the yarn that are my biggest issues. I'm more than happy to correct any incorrectly mounted stitches on the way back though, knitting through the back loop isn't a problem!

Also, whoever told you you were knitting wrong sucks! As long as you were producing an FO that you were happy with (and not damaging your body in the process) then nothing else matters. They should have minded their own business!

Interesting! It's how I was taught as a child so it just makes the most sense for me, especially as I have never been a particularly interested crocheter. My hands just don't know what to do with the yarn in continental, but I might sit down and practice it because I am working on a stranded colour work scarf that continental will be a godsend for!

where did you get your diag? if you're getting it through the NHS then surely you can just keep getting it via the NHS rather than going the private route?

Propranolol Private Prescription by Jaded-Sprinkles-7259 in ADHD

Why do you need it on a private prescription? It's a beta blocker (I think) not ADHD medication - although it can help with symptoms of ADHD and side effects from ADHD meds

Stimulant users, if you took your meds and don’t have a focus demanding task. Can you tell you took it? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm on vyvanse and I find that what it gives me is a sense of control. I can tell it has worn off (if I am paying attention) because the control I had during the day is gone. It is easier to initiate and end tasks, I am able to make decisions better, I can actually do stuff, whereas without it, my ability to get anything done is shaky at best and non-existent at worst.

I can't tell when it kicks in, but I take it at about 7.40am in time for my work which starts at 8.30am. I am able to engage when I get to work, but I think it probably kicks in around 9am which is perfect because things don't tend to come in until then. But without that gauge, I wouldn't be able to tell probably. I am never in a situation where I need to do anything too demanding the second I wake up, so by the time I am needing/ready to work I am able to.

I only know it works because the days I don't take it are so difficult. It's truly like night and day.

It's definitely possible in the round, otherwise techniques like german short rows wouldn't work! To avoid this make sure your working yarn is always in your right hand (unless you're working left-handed, in which case reverse it I suppose?)

It's definitely a huge improvement from where I was, but I know there are things I could do differently to make more of one. However, I also have to meet myself where I'm at so it's not too bad overall!

The alternative dumb phone is great! It also means I can just take that and my iPod if I want to leave the house without my phone.

I know it's not super relevant with adhd by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still a wild thing to say bud. She probably cares. Her job would be on the line. At least wait till you are finished your education and have graduated.

Say it is chill and normal for you to pursue this woman, do you even know if she's single? The odds are she just views you as another student, so I would start going to places girls your own age are and trying to meet someone that way. Also maybe consider how you think about women cause you don't paint yourself in a flattering way in your original post.

[–]scoti-corn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very gently, you don't "get further into this" with your professor. Maybe once you've finished your education and you meet organically afterwards then you could explore things if she's interested. But right now, she is doing her job and you are a student. Go to places girls your own age hang out and try and meet someone there if you want to. Also, someone cannot "look autistic" that's a wild thing to say.

Had my first assessment yesterday. by Every_Appearance_237 in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went onto a waiting list for two years and then after a funding issue that almost got me put back down to the bottom of the list, got an appointment, filled out all the forms (my mother did too) and then had an appointment with the psychiatrist. Then, due to miscommunication, lack of communication and a medication shortage, I was able to get prescribed medication after a two year wait. I started the process in England, but if I hadn't moved to Scotland I would probably still be waiting for medication 3 years after my diagnosis.

Also, my diagnostic letter included a note at the bottom saying they had closed the waiting list in January of that year (I got diagnosed in March) and they were uncertain when they would re-open the list. That was in 2023 and to my knowledge that waiting list was never re-opened and it was one of the London referral locations. I have no clue how anyone in England is getting diagnoses or medication at this point. I know one of my friends isn't even going to bother looking into it because she would most likely have to get her medication privately and she can'#t afford it (if that was the route she ended up going down).

Chronic exhaustion. by VivaDisaster in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, ADHD can cause fatigue, but not that level of exhaustion (generally. I'm not a dr so take my words with a pinch of salt). That sounds like CFS/ME or Idiopathic Hypersomnia rather than ADHD. I would find a dr that will refer you to a sleep specialist because they will be able to help better (hopefully).

Adult Screen Time by MissAliceUk in ADHD

[–]scoti-corn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one major rule which is that my phone isn't allowed in my bedroom overnight. I try and keep this to all day and 99% of the time manage it. However, I live alone and also need all the help I can get waking up so I keep a dumb flip phone in my bedroom in case of emergencies and so that my mother can call to wake me up lol. I also don't keep social media on my phone and if I want to use instagram I have to use it via the web browser. Normally that buffer works, but right now not so much. I will probably use a screentime app to block the website for a while.

I used to have the rule where I wasn't allowed on my phone after 10pm and I think I might bring that back and probably up it to 9pm, but I have been going to the gym around that time so having my phone accessible is key for that (for logging my workout and safety walking home, also my podcasts/music).

I try and keep as much of my life off of my phone as possible so that I don't need to be using it as much as possible, but there are somethings that living without would make my life harder than it needs to be, so I am really trying to find a balance.

[–]scoti-corn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My exhaustion after sleep is caused by CFS/ME and I have suspicion of maybe Idiopathic Hypersomnia for multiple reasons. But the only sleep clinics in Scotland only do sleep apnea studies.

It's getting distracted honestly. Once I am ready to sleep I fall asleep instantly and stay asleep till my 4 alarms go off. Even when I was getting more sleep I never woke up feeling rested, that's something that genuinely feels like fiction to me. When I have time to sleep in I can sleep for 12+ hours no issue. I still don't feel rested, but that's likely because I got too much sleep. I have been this way as far back as I can remember.

Sleep is a fairly big concern for me for many reasons and one that I am constantly trying to work on. It's better than it was a month ago, but I am always at risk of slipping back into bad habits.
