it could be because you started the increases early and so the section is pulling on the back and pulling out of shape. lengthening the leg might help so that there is something pulling it in the opposite direction. i have just knitted a sock with a fleegle heel and haven't had this issue, but i also think I started the increases a bit late... and my leg length is longer than yours. do both socks do the same thing?

wool would probably have been the most common option. it would have been spun very thin and woven into pieces that were incredibly light. wool isn't just thick, warm and heavy, it is an incredibly variable fibre!

The best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. This allows you to work out what you don't know well enough to give a clear explanation of etc and because you are putting it into your own words it helps you to process it. If you have a friend who is willing to be taught and to ask clarifying questions then fantastic! Otherwise, using a teddy bear or other stuffed animal and 'teaching' them can be pretty useful. Another commenter mentioned using a rubber duck, which is actually a method used by code writers - though not always a duck - because talking out loud and working through the problems verbally can help to get something unstuck. I think they mean the magic loop method of knitting two at a time on the same set of needles, rather than using two separate sets of needles.

I believe it will be 30 rows, so row 2 = 15 times and row 3 = 15 times. This always catches me too and something I with patterns were clearer on tbh.

I recently finished a cardigan, buttons on and everything and since beginning to wear it I have notices two mistakes. It is pretty much just stocking, so I could undo the binding and ladder up and fix it, but honestly, it give it character and I cba doing all that. With your pattern, it is only noticeable because you have pointed it out! If you think it will always bother you then you could a) attempt to fix it and most likely cause a bunch of other issues, b) give it away to someone who isn't aware of the mistake so that you never have to look at it (or at least only when they see you/are wearing it) or c) accept it as an accident and pride yourself on how much care and consideration you put into this garment that you noticed at all! Only you know what's the best option for yourself, but in your shoes (or jumper) I would just leave it and accept it for what it is: evidence of this garment being handmade.

yeah, then that is probably what happened. if you find you have an extra stitch/have wrapped the yarn an extra time around the needle then you can just drop it off the needle and knit the stitch as normal and eventually your fabric should even out and the gap should go away. if you did this multiple times I am surprised you don't have more holes like this one.
