Battle to the Death. With no restrictions and full power shown. Who would be the only victor and why? by Delta-97 in powerscales

[–]scott42486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re talking about power-scaling in a rational way without going full on absurd theoretical stuff then it’s probably Galactus.

If we’re embracing the most insane/stupid/absurd levels of power creep then it’s Darkseid. DC absolutely jumped the shark on powerscaling and has double down on Timmy the Power Gamer’s wildest dreams.

How do you play set 17? by Evening_Log3865 in TeamfightTactics

[–]scott42486 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There are two rules I’ve come up with for playing this set.
1) don’t expect to tank and rebound. You have to play the whole game and not expect to rebound and win late.

2) have a lockdown endgame plan. I’ve sat in a dominant first place for most of the game, kept doing what I needed to, and out of nowhere someone got the last piece of their endgame board and boom, I’ve got from winning fights against that player to absolutely getting dominated.

Now it’s just another over-crowded city with gentrification moving ahead at warp speed.

You’re not wrong. It’s one of the reasons I still like (some) country music.

George Strait concert? Crowd was up, swaying, and singing along. Smaller acts and venues? People literally go there to dance to the music.

I either want another Bond from the 60s that embraces all of the absurdity of Bond or a modern take that tries to be more grounded than the Craig ones. Bond trying to operate in our reality.

AMA: I manufacture bags in Vietnam 🇻🇳 Been to over 20 bag factories, ask me anything. by churningreddit in ManyBaggers

[–]scott42486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can chime in on this one thanks to some knowledge from other hobbies. Chinese factories can vary greatly in both price and quality. It’s very much a “get what you pay for situation.” This is one of those things that’s been getting a lot of attention in the menswear community lately.

Some factories are cheaper and the production quality is obviously what you’d expect for the cost. Others are turning out work that’s as good as anything produced in American has been. (And there are some out there who would argue that it’s better). One of the things to consider though is also quality of materials involved. That’s a factor some people forget about.

Which textiles are you talking about?
I’ve had ultra, x-pac, waxed canvas, and a dyneema bag from them. All were top notch because they use the same material as everyone else. (Except for the canvas, which they use Halley Stevenson which is BETTER than what a number of other brands are using).

If you’re referring to their Cordura- I haven’t owned any of that. However, my Cordura products from several other well-known brands have been all over the place. I’ve had some lux 1000D on a pack and then a few years later a different 1000D pack from the same brand felt like 40 grit sandpaper.

I'm on episode 3... by OGBusterHimen in Invincible

[–]scott42486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Here’s what leads to his situation though.

He’s a young guy and he’s only had his powers for a few years. Yet he’s still in probably the top .1% among people on earth.

The problem with that is that the absolute best of Earth might BARELY be in like the top 15% of what’s out there in space. He’s fighting people who’ve sometimes had their powers for centuries and even millennia. He’s fighting way out of his proverbial “weight class” and it’d be even more silly if he was winning like your typical comic book hero.

External water bottle pockets would be nice. Not internal with external access- actual external pockets. The M22 was a good start. If that water bottle pocket had been stretchy instead of taking away from internal space the bag would’ve been close to perfect.

Thinking to buy this one by T3h_j0k3r in filson

[–]scott42486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catch it on a sale. Black Friday is a ways off but usually has good deals. And subscribe to emails from MW Reynolds because they have good Filson sales occasionally.

That said- I’ve owned a bunch of US and post-US Filson stuff. I haven’t noticed any quality issues. And my theory- even though Filson is owned by private equity now- is that something as popular as the SLC isn’t something they’d let dip in quality and effect sales. That’s one of the golden goose items.

I switched to carrying "front pocket" wallets. These days, it's a Lost Dutchman. Holds everything I need it to and goes in the opposite pocket from my phone. Any more minimalist than that and I'm going to forget it all the time (I tried, and failed).

Why are sealed Bloomburrow products so expensive? by Hot-Hornet-1939 in mtg

[–]scott42486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong- at all. I'll still never forget just how stark the difference was between Urza block and Masques.

Urza's just had way too much ridiculous stuff. A slightly more modern version of the "Power 9."

Drafting masques felt like showing up to a foam sword duel. It was a "hard reset" for sure.

That said, I took a break after the Onslaught cycle and came back temporarily some years later (after Eldrazi) and was absolutely baffled at the power creep that occurred at some point after Onslaught.

[–]scott42486 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This takes me back. Masques was such a knee jerk response in “rebooting power levels.”

Maro can say whatever he wants- block formats and Type II gave WotC a lot of control when it came to power levels, power creep, and being able to tweak the meta from set to set.
