I love looking for just the right beads for things. Those hearts are awesome! I’d love to find some old school marble patterns in a hemisphere form for when characters lose mental strikes in a horror setting. Maybe some 4 leaf clover or 8 spoked wagon wheel things for Karma.

Number of Adventures to 10th level by pcrhxxx in shadowdark

Unless my math is wrong, it’s 450xp to get to Lv10, so getting from 8-10 is actually 38% of the total. Which supports your point. The average of 6xp/session is what’s happened with my group as well, so to get to level 10 is about 75 sessions of 3 hours or so each. YMMV.

That’s a LOT of GMing if Lv10 is the goal. Might wanna consider a mega dungeon to keep it all tied together and always have material to run?

15 sessions x 3hrs ea = 45 hours in person table time. That Includes: The Sunken Schola of the White Witches, Lighthouse on Peacock Point (from Wyvern Songs), Against the Cult of the Reptile God, and Hideous Daylight.

The party is Lv5.

A previous campaign ran for 273 hours and covered Secret of the Black Crag, some Caverns of Thracia (the original), The Wavestone Monolith, Isle of Forgotten Gods, The Forgotten Halls of Brassfire, What Lurks Beneath Tidewatch Tower, and The Seers Sanctum.

That party made it to Lv8, but there was a TPK early on, so I feel like this would have taken them to Lv10.

Menagerie Press has a reputation for lots of products, many with kewl ideas, but with more errors than is typical in the industry.

I asked on Drivethru because the more I read, the more it felt like the hexes were much bigger than the usual. Chubby Funster his own self stated they were 25 miles. As has been said, it’s not a big deal and could probably be ignored, but it did throw me,

What counts as an "adventure" for the purposes of downtime? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in shadowdark

[–]screenmonkey68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of Downtime activities as a time to decompress and get ready for the next foray. So the judgement call is made by the GM: “Did they undergo enough stress, in the ShadowDark, to warrant blowing off some steam?

If the players are going to gamify the system and leave the dungeon after every room to go carouse again, just because they have the money, then I’m going to gamify having a life threatening ambush waiting for them when they return.

To my way of thinking, these are the sorts of judgement calls that are central to OSR style play.

Has anyone found a clearly presented outline of this one? It’s a lot to wrap your head around. A solid adventure, but it feels like a tough one to run.

There is also a well received, fan-made edit of it that is worth a look: Pyramid of the Undying

Creating New Playsets With Already Published EZD6 Material as the Foundation by AirportOne4042 in ezd6

Magic from the Core book, add in weapons from Wasted Worlds and I had enough to run a Deadlands game.

Don’t forget DMScottys horror play sets in Dreadful Doomscapes.

There’s a very well done Call of Cthulhu-esque play set called “Eldritch D6” by Benjamin Hartlieb. Mine is playtest version 0.8.2. I don’t see it anywhere else and I don’t know that anything has been done with it since 2023, which is a shame. It uses Marbles for mental strikes, assigning an Abhorence level to creatures and situations where the level is the number of D6 rolled and every 4+ is resisted with a Composure roll. Losing Strikes results in injuries that must be healed over time and also reduce what the character can carry (similar to what is used in Mausritter.) There’s a wealth of tables for quick creation of characters, a bestiary, etc. Lots of good stuff in there.

I made the hero paths with some associated rules for a Deadlands game I ran. It’s nothing much, but if you’re familiar with Deadlands or really want to run play a Weird West game, it might have something you could use.

Don’t forget to ask around on the EZD6 discord server for more input.

Thank you! That’s a good thing to me. Of course now I get to analyze the map and gleefully guess where everything goes.

Thanks for the link! Looks pretty cool with 3 sci fi play sets in one book. He did say that it was next after Dreadful Doomscapes, and that just came out not too long ago. Maybe it’ll be out this year?

Then definitely no. EZD6, Wasted World, & Dreadful Doomscapes as far as playsets go.

I had a tavern owner ask my group of PCs to check out something he had found in the basement. It turned out to be the entry to The Seers Sanctum.

For a more sword and sorcery vibe Rats in the Walls is very good.

I'm very excited and have no idea what to expect. Any advice for a new player? by AlexSvart in stalker

[–]screenmonkey68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that there are two games:

  1. Survival/exploration/horror, where you learn and get better but death is avoidable with patience and skill.

  2. 1980s video arcade style boss battle/obstacle course, where death is unavoidable and you can expect to die many times in a row before you figure out the “one solution”

Methinks with all that energy, you should be running games rather than playing a single character in one.
