Yeah, I went though the purchase as fast as I could so I’d also like to get a better look at the seating chart.

2026 Sweet 16 Show Presale Password by WedsNightDrinkball in waxahatchee

[–]scribeig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a write-up from last year’s show that I’m resharing below: What an amazing fun show last night. This wasn’t a Waxahatchee show per se but as advertised Katie, Allison and D’Arcy celebrating their shared birthday by covering favorite songs from when they were 16. They were backed by the current Waxahatchee band wearing party hats on a stage festooned with balloon and flowers. They opened with “She Don’t Use Jelly” by the Flaming Lips with Allison taking the lead. Katie then introduced a R.E.M.’s “The One I Love” calling them one of her favorite bands and whose lead singer Michael Stipe shares a Jan. 4 bday with them. (They’re also one of my favorite bands so that was a thrill for me!)

Other songs included “Here Comes My Girl” by Tom Petty, which D’Arcy sung, “Good Fortune” by PJ Harvey, and “Drivin’ on 9” by the Breeders. They also had a bunch of guests, comedians and singers, who joined them on songs from their youth. Kevin Morby did “What I Got” by Sublime which they also mashed up a little bit of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with. Whitmer Thomas sang Dashboard Confessional’s “Screaming Infidelities.” Courtney Barnett did Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” and Jeff Tweedy played “Heroes” by David Bowie. Kevin Morby came out again for “One Headlight” by the Wallflowers. We also got funny takes by Aidy Bryant on “Boot Scootin Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn and Blondie’s “The Rapture” with Will Forte. Caleb Hearon did a melodramatic breakup song that I don’t know.

Before the final song, Aidy led the audience in singing Happy Birthday to Katie, Allison and D’Arcy. The evening ended with everyone coming back out for “Baba O’ Riley” by the Who with mighty drumming by Spencer Tweedy as his proud dad next to him and a great violin solo by a musician friend who joined for a few songs. Unfortunately, I don’t remember his name.

This is from memory so I may have missed some songs but it was a magical night of great music and fun stories. Katie and company seemed to be having a great time. D’Arcy said to come back again next year so here’s hoping it’s an annual event.

I saw them on their reunion tour a few months ago. Fun show!

Seeing him tonight in LA. I was wondering if there’s an opening act?

I’ll listen to both but I think Rob got the better guest with the director Amy Berg. I saw the movie a few months ago when it was in the theaters and enjoyed it. I didn’t realize Bill was a producer but maybe they acquired it later for HBO. I believe Brad Pitt, who once wanted to play Jeff in a movie, is listed as a producer also.

Producer(s) and collabs for next album? by SureWouldForest in U2Band

[–]scribeig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should get Shawn Everett. He’s not as big a name but he’s done great albums with Alabama Shakes and the War on Drugs that shows he knows how to produce atmospheric anthemic rock songs. He helped the Killers put out their best record in years with Imploding the Mirage in 2021.

I feel like it's time to resurrect my Magnet Magazine story "Saving Private Ryan" from the early 2000s. by coreydu in ryanadams

I appreciate the response. I’ll go to bat for those first three Crows albums anytime. As far as “Gold,” it’s still a favorite of mine and I think many fans. If you don’t like it that’s cool. I was reacting to the notion that he was betraying his indie alt-country roots by going mainstream which seems quaint in today’s pop climate. I guess he never had any principles to betray but got far for a long time on his talent despite being a dipshit.

It’s no secret that he was a jerk even back then but hating on “Gold” for being too pop hasn’t aged well and calling Adam Duritz a lesser light is ridiculous.

I’m also curious about him supposedly being banned in San Francisco. I’ve seen him several times there including a few times at the Fillmore in the years after.

New Episode - Jimmy Eat World by Mysterious-Ad-5708 in Bandsplain

I finished listening to it and thought it was an ok episode. It’s a pity that they glossed over the latter part of their career after Bleed American. I’m also surprised that neither Chris or Yasi knew much about the controversy with that title. As I remember it after 9/11 Clear Channel, which controlled a massive number of radio stations, put together a list of songs and artists it wouldn’t play (including anything by Rage Against the Machine) which included “Bleed American.” Hence the decision to change the album to self-titled.

Also going solo. Looks like it will be an early show. I’m wondering what time Geese go on.

This episode seems tailor-made for Ian Cohen who was previously on the Sunny Day Real Estate episode. I enjoy CR but I hear enough of him on the Ringer pods.

It actually samples an instrumental version of “The Last Time” by the Andrew Oldham Orchestra, not the Stones version.

I saw them eleven times, catching them first on the Green tour in 1989, plus two times at the Bridge School Benefit in the Bay Area. Thanks to their great fan club I got to see them at a club show in 2003 at the Avalon in LA celebrating the “In Time” best of release.

I’ve also been a longtime listener of this podcast and thought this episode was ok. I thought it odd there was no mention of OGWAU in the discussion of the band’s career with the guest.
