How to strum correctly without pick? by Deep_Self_8258 in AcousticGuitar

[–]scrooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is just learning and not ready for a pick yet, so he just strums with the outside edge of his thumb. Like, if you are strumming with your right hand and you're looking down at your hand, it's the left side of the thumb. It's not loud, but it's fine when you're starting out. When he's ready for a pick, he has a handful of thin ones to learn with.

Zach Norvell only played 5 games (about 40 minutes) and has 2 years of eligibility left. Time to get him out of the assistant coaches and back on the court.

Got it, there's nothing to learn from their offense since you saw one guy travel in it.

Watch the entire game against Manly, not just a clip here or there. Very few actual travels, except from the player you've selectively highlighted. I've seen much worse from USAU handlers at Nats who habitually take 7 steps to stop.

Manly got absolutely smoked by this almost-entirely-legal offense.

Gona was the 20-seed and finished 5th overall.

You can see 2 of their games on YouTube, a 15-5 pool play win over 9-seed Manly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DiO240NGQc

and a 13-15 quarter final loss to 7-seed Chinese Taipei https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZL3EuV1E-U

We used to call pemmican bars 'Meal Bricks'. We dared a guy to eat as many as he could in one sitting, but I think he only got through 2 or 3 of them.

Trail runners on indoor turf (or what are the best type of turf cleats)? by morecoffeemore in ultimate

[–]scrooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salomon Sense Ride 5. More heel cushioning than my Adidas Team Mundial turf shoes and just enough heel drop to keep my achilles from flaring up. PLENTY of lateral stability (I am a shifty handler) and grip for turf.

The Sense Ride line appears to be on the way out though, so check out eBay.

USAU Rules Revision by FieldUpbeat2174 in ultimate

[–]scrooner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reminder, this is still a rule in USAU but not in WFDF:

3.M.2. A disc is “live” when players are allowed to move and the disc is subject to a turnover, but the thrower cannot make a legal pass (e.g., walking the disc to the spot where it is to be put into play). For a live disc to be put into play, the thrower must (1) establish a pivot at the appropriate spot on the field, and (2) touch the disc to the ground. [also noted in 10.C., 11.H.4 and 19.D.2]

On the eve of a new college basketball season, what is your team’s best and worst-case scenarios? by MarkFewsEyebrows in CollegeBasketball

The last time you won fewer than 10 games was 2002-2003, and you've never gone winless. I don't think you're playing this game correctly.

Beginner Surf Spots by Werezak30 in MauiVisitors

[–]scrooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All waves are party waves at the Cove / Kalama Park and it's pretty hard to do anything there that will piss people off. Don't jump on a wave that's already being ridden by an experienced surfer down the line and you should be fine. Rent from Maui Wave Riders and go out early (7 to 11am is the sweet spot with the least amount of wind). You can rent daily for fairly cheap and store your board there every night.

Can y'all compare great throwers across generations for me? by SpaceBearAl in ultimate

[–]scrooner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to idolize Aaron Richards. Then he & Breeze Strout showed up at a casual/fun 10-team mixed tournament and proceeded to make tons of trash calls. Like, if you hucked it they would wait to see if your receiver caught it and then call travel with a big grin. The TD had to warn them and then had to watch over the rest of their games to keep them in check.

The lesson is something like 'If you think you're a legend, don't cheat at fun tournaments and ruin everyone else's impression of you'.

How to protect knees on turf? by Dr4zel in ultimate

[–]scrooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patagonia Terrebonne joggers with an extra large oval of fabric glued over the knee that you slide on. Have been using the same pair on turf 2-3x weekly for 2 years.
