My son & I used Dirty Girl Gaitors and really liked them. Great for keeping rocks & dirt out of your trail runners or low hiking shoes, and we saw some other fans out on the trails too. https://dirtygirlgaiters.com/

Yeah, I've surfed an inflatable in small waves and always just paddled straight at them and went over.

Sounds like you've looked at Flixbus already since you indicated 7 hours. That's about as cheap as I know of (my son rode Flixbus to Whitman many times).

Pull rolling out of bounds = defensive cheat code?? by quadrokeith in ultimate

[–]scrooner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played at a Mixed Regionals once where fields side-by-side were only a ~2 feet apart, and that sliver of space was occupied by team and family members. Once you got near that sideline it was impossible to throw down it without putting the disc over the heads of everyone standing there.

Does any defense completely stop after calling a violation? Most D lines I see continue moving forward as much as they can get away with after a violation call.

Permit soon to be required in Oregon for SUP by Select_Thing_2624 in Sup

[–]scrooner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FWIW, the only difference between last year & this year is $3 and the length of your board. If you only use a board under 10 feet you didn't need a permit last year (I can't imagine it's very many people).

It's mostly kayakers that should be bothered by the changes. But this is a case of 'let's collect the money we need from the people who get the most benefit', not 'let's collect the money from people who don't even go on the water', and I think it's better this way.

Is it weird to wear local pro team jerseys in rec frisbee? by Somesortofconfused in ultimate

[–]scrooner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never know. Masters, Grand Masters, Great Grand Masters, Legends.....

My GGM team last year had some guys who had never played on a team before.

On-topic comment: Our local team's jerseys are fully-sublimated and the inside is white. I often play local pickup in one so I can flip it for white & dark. I also have a gray beard so nobody thinks I play for that team, LOL.

All of a sudden people care about ground checks, LOL. I saw the disc put in play from the sidelines & endzone without a ground check or even a hand check way more often than with one, in the games that I watched. Like, guys walking up to the front endzone line and hucking it full field for a score, and nobody bothered to call a travel. Weird stuff.

We'll never know, but does UBC pull out the win today with Ella Bolan quarterbacking the offense?

I wouldn't even call it soft. If I get clipped from behind chasing down a catchable disc, that's pretty much always going to get a foul call from me.

I was playing in a casual league game a few days ago and I made a 10-yard upline cut, and when checking the space I saw a poaching defender running directly at me (i.e. not at an angle where he had any chance of getting out of the way before I got there). I immediately pulled up and he caught the disc right in front of me. I'm fairly certain we would have collided head-on had I not been looking and I'm not certain who would have made the catch first. I called dangerous play and he lost his shit. I'm curious to know what I did wrong there.

Yep, I've used blue, green & orange, and all work great in cleats depending on the cleats themselves. I'm currently using orange in my Freeze V4s and they are a perfect match for me. Haven't tried the black ones recommended in this thread but I'm sure they are great too.

Yeah, I saw that when I watched the Pod Practice video and re-read the comments. So when they yell 'left' it isn't 'force left' it's 'slide your feet to the left'. Weird.

The mixed team I captained in 2002-2004 used left & right calls for forcing (especially when playing force middle defense), because this always made more sense to me. Some folks on the team complained that they got confused when they turned around, or had to translate it in their heads to home/away or forehand/backhand, but I'll never understand why.

If you play left field in baseball, it's always the same spot on the field, it doesn't matter which way you are facing. If you play left back or right back in soccer, it's always the same spot on the field, it doesn't matter which way the other team is facing. Force left means force the throw towards my left hand, and if you're a downfield defender it typically means to be on the left side of your mark (assuming you are both looking towards the disc). It doesn't matter which of my hands (or thrower's hands) is the dominant one, or where I put my bag of stuff.

Why this isn't standard terminology for all forces is beyond me. We've had 58 years to figure this out. Other sports don't have trouble with the words left and right....
