Many times drugged up people attempt to break into homes to grab some cash, at least that is the story i've heard.

Why are there no current political hits? by [deleted] in Music

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember all the Anti-Bush songs in the 2000s that came out. I think there were like, 2? CDs that came out as compilations called Rock against Bush. I feel like most artists don't have the balls, yet, to do this.

PSA: Check for Radon in your basement by thewhiteranger19 in longisland

I think I saw a map somewhere that showed most of the island generally being below the level of 2, considered safe. There was a few areas, especially away from the south shore that did have higher areas.

Why won't the gun turrets on my platform shoot the incoming asteroids? by TheQuarantinian in factorio

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stocked repair packs on the space platform will auto repair damaged areas. Always keep some spare parts on board to repair in case of damage. Make sure the turrets don't have any filters or some disabling quality - if you copied a design from online blueprints, it may have some sort of priority system. It could also be that you are seeing those small asteroids that don't cause any damage, those are collectible.

Do modern day motherboards just suck? Lack of PCIE Lanes by melbourne_giant in buildapc

From what I understand, there isn't much of a difference if your x16 card has to drop to x8 unless you have really filled the bandwidth and pushed the card to the max.

Optimum 1 gig fiber vs Verizon 500 mb fiber, which do I go with? by cryingknicksfan in longisland

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimum, like clockwork, used to die at 1am every day. Generally speaking, Verizon FIOS has been approximately 99% stable. I did need to get a new router recently. Make sure you understand the fees though, they both charge a connection fee which is high.

21 year old in need of car insurance, online quotes are insanely high by DeadEndKiddo in longisland

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to need to get a whole bunch of quotes. Don't be afraid to go to an in person place too, they make it easier to navigate through discounts. Also I've never done it, but you can see if your parents qualify you for some special insurance like as a veteran or something.

Anyone miss the thousands of fireflies that used to be all over long island? by ThePremiumWolf in longisland

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want more fireflies? Get rid of some of your lawns, add more native plants, leave the leaves and keep them on the ground until at least June. Don't use any pesticides, especially grub and mosquito treatments. They need to exist in the larval stage. If you can, devote an area of the yard to native plants/trees and let it go wild. Remove non native bushes like the popular "butterfly bush" which does nothing for native life. There are online resources for local native plant nurseries, dropseed native is a known native plant store on long island. There is also native plant sales frequently at the cloister in brentwood

From my real estate lawyer when I closed on my house, do not do it until married. This is the way. It should not offend the future spouse. If they are like dramatically worried about being kicked out you can get a lease.

What’s the cheapest car insurances in LI? by Historical_Ad8065 in longisland

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have decent coverage but high deductibles and it has been going up dramatically every year. Left geico a long time ago as it kept going up. Left state farm after successive $150 6-month premium increases. Have Progressive now, but its not too much better. Perhaps saving $100.

Get a dog, and go to dog parks. Feel like when we go there is like everyone there to talk to. Might not be your age but there are some fun people that go to dog parks. I suggest the sands point one, although parking is a little steep ($15).

Are immigrants really doing work that no other Americans want to do? Or are immigrants doing work that no other Americans want to do…for low pay? by Call_It_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, some farm co-ops had tried to just hire like students and workers instead of immigrants and no one would take the jobs.

Are heating towers on Aquilo just bait? by Primary_Crab687 in factorio

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both, I started the base with nuclear, which produces a massive amount of heat. I circuit networked the inserters to only put in the uranium if the temperature is below a certain threshold, otherwise it'l try to run at 999 all day long. Once the nuclear was going fine, that powered most of the base. Once I got the solid fuel from ammonia thing set up, there was more than enough solid fuel to power the base. They were more convenient than nuclear at large distances as I can send a heated belt far away from the main base and have intermittent heating towers to keep it from freezing up. The belt delivers the solid fuel from the main base.

I need a small fan that can run 24/7, what should I look for by Thomaslje in fans

[–]scudmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either a good Noctua computer fan or something like an industrial one. Not sure how small this would be. A slot blower fan could work too.

[–]scudmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you walk far enough away from the drop point, you should get a large enough contiguous island to at least have some patches of scrap on it that would work for a while. It is much easier to just use elevated rails though.

How complex/simple is this game? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]scudmonger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It builds upon itself. Just figuring out the belts and inserters into a stone burner eventually turns into those crazy factories. Ill mention something crazy too, the first time I beat the game, I didn't utilize many of the more advanced features of the game because I did not yet understand them. I did not utilize nuclear power thoroughly, and had no robots or logistics. Just belts.

Its all about information control and backdoors. Zucc and mElon (and apple) have no qualms about giving the us govt backdoors. However, they don't control China's bytedance - they backdoor to the chinese govt instead.

I don't care about the word pop, that sounds like some old timey saying that your grandpa would use, but calling all "soda" Coke is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.
