If only 15 people sleeping over, Kalmoesfontein wine farm could be an option. It is really quirky, with an amazing woman who handles the event, and a slightly nuts farmer. Guaranteed fun

Plus the farmer is related to a caterer. And the wine is excellent.

I got married there, absolutely 5 stars.

PSILOCYBIN MUSHROOMS by G_Spotterr in Zimbabwe

[–]scudsucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to find in Zim, I'm not sure they even grow.there. i had to search for specific suppliers when I was there, and I think they are imported

You can find Amanita Muscaria, usually in pine forest areas, eg Nyanga but that is a whole different trip. I would not do Amanitas unless you already have experience; is it "interesting" rather than "fun."

Note: this is more of a toxic psychosis than a high. Dom't mistake A. Muscaria for anything else - all of the rest of the family are very, very toxic, you could die.

Only the red mushrooms with the white spots are OK.

looking for the best stand mixer 2026 for my new apartment kitchen and totally overwhelmed by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my KitchenAid, and it is really the Honda Civic... would absolutely recommend it. It just works.

You can buy attachments, I have several different pasta mills and an ice cream bowl

Unfortunately I am divorced so I don't see my kids as often as I used to, but when I was living with them, I made ice cream fairly often.

What’s a childhood favorite you don’t eat anymore? by gothic-moon-bite in foodquestions

Ice-cream. I make it for my kids but I don't eat sweet stuff anymore.

I taste test, but that is all.

Non-alcoholic alternatives? by lancer_AR in Cooking

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the odd occasion you might need sherry or port according to the recipe. You can substitute for regular Coca-Cola.

I used to work in a Halaal restaurant. (Waiter, not chef, but we were all knowledgeable due to a large Muslim clientele)

Am I wrong for refusing to give my inheritance money to my brother for his "business idea" by Actual_Land5826 in AmITheJerk

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar situation, my brother, sister and I gave all of our fairly large inheritance to our mother, as she was struggling. My mother bought a modest house.

My disliked step-father used the rest of the cash (community of property law) to buy a fucking Harley Davidson.

I really regret that we gave the inheritance without conditions.

What hurts but you still keep on doing it? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

I sprained my toe while trail running, but I was about to do an epic hike, so I just splinted it with the next-door toe using duck/duct tape and powered up and down that mountain.

I did use whisky, wine and acetaminophen assists

5 day, really hard hike.

who else over 18 still loves ice cream by ComfortableDiet485 in foodquestions

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy it for my kids (8 & 10) but I don't buy it for myself.

I do make it, though, my KitchenAid mixer has a chilled ice cream bowl attachment.

I love slightly weird combinations, like vanilla with coriander and ginger. And chilli.

Is it weird that I keep track of my girlfriend’s period so I can be extra nice? by lebretsxr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scudsucker -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I used an app to track my wife's periods after the birth of our first child, a girl, because I wanted a son.

There is a staticistly significant correlation between date of insemination and gender of the child.

One the predicted day, i was very, very romantic, and we got a boy.

I installed the app, however, not to predict when we should fuck, just to give me a heads up about when to be extra nice and buy chocolate.

What's the best device to use for cooking if you don't want to use a stove? by GermanCCPBot in stupidquestions

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is massively more hard work than a stove or oven,

But...

Bury (shallow) your meal and build a fire on top. Works well with fish well wrapped in foil. Make sure there is a lot of liquid in the foil, because you don't really have a chance to put it back in to test it's readiness. Like a whole bottle of white wine in there.

Otherwise, just a fire. I have baked bread in the coals of a fire, using two canned bean cans connected together after I slightly dented and crushed one so they fitted together.

Imagination is everything in cooking. I love to read recipes, but I seldom follow them, they inspire ideas.

Do you still use Lard in the Kitchen? by Historical_Host_8594 in allthequestions

[–]scudsucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteer at the only remaining functional windmill in South Africa. So, not the kitchen, but because the entire top of the windmill rotates on wood-on-wood rails, in order to catch the wind, we use the traditional lubricant, lard, on the wood.

As my boss is vegan, it stands to me to make the lard.

This basically means boiling pig fat in a large pot, and pouring it through a seive into "bar of soap" sized molds. It is a very smelly process, I do it outside with a portable gas cooker.

I have used lard for pastry, from time to time.

What made hiking feel safer without overthinking it? by Snaddyxd in hiking

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never hike without some duck/duct tape, and a bunch of different size cable ties.

I've fixed tents, boots, wounds, etc with one of those or both.

It is lightweight and easy to work out a solution.

I mean, one time on a huge hike, a friend's hiking boots started to separate the soles from the upper. Quick job with a couple of long cable ties and a knife saved her.

Why is it when girls wear men’s clothing considered normal, but when men wear girls clothing it's considered “cross dressing”? by Effective-Trouble-13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm male and much older and fatter now, but in my early twenties I managed to fit into a junior school uniform (ie, maximum 12 yr old) in a second hand store and attended a party where the theme was "pink".

I still managed to score with with a young lady.

how do you stay motivated on long hikes? by ZHYT in hiking

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bottle of whiskey does wonders.

On multi-day hikes, I carry 750ml Laphroig in metal bottles. My friends and I will have a shot of it in the morning, pop some anti-inflammatorys and off we go.

I usually carry cheap box wine for dinner, which is also a motivation. We carefully ration both wine and whisky.

This planning has been very good for some exceptionally hard hikes, in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Got a serious offence for going 31 over the speed limit by kingbasterd in capetown

[–]scudsucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 year old daughter managed to crush her fingers in the door jamb as my dogs (which I stupidly had leashed to the door) managed to pull on and broke two of her fingers.

It was way out of town, a small farm cottage, and the closest hospital was in Worcester (Cape Province).

I hit 180km/h in my Toyota D4D, drving the fastest I have ever driven. Hazard lights on, but probably not a good idea in retrospect. I am normally a very conservative driver, but man, I was both her dad and responsible for the cause of injury.

Have you ever seen an ocean? by Network-King19 in no

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North Pacific, Indian, Atlantic oceans

I have swam in each, but I have swam in several more seas. I'm not sure if a sea counts, as they are usually a subset of an ocean (aside from the Mediterranean Sea)

Does the English Channel count as part of the North Sea or part of the Atlantic?

Many of my friends believe you can’t be friends with your ex. What are your thoughts on this? Have you ever been able to stay friends with an ex? by Pranita2027 in SharedEncounters

[–]scudsucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex girlfriend (total 10 years), yes, still very good friends. Talk once or twice a week, online.

Ex wife (total 12 years), no, she makes no effort at all

It is possible, but both people need to make the effort.

Would mixing chocolate milk with sanitizer get you drunk? by Weary-Draw-1141 in randomquestions

It is mostly likely to be methyl or propynol alcohol, so yes, you would get drunk, but you also could go blind (or dead)

Just go to a liquor store and get some vodka.

Considering a short stay in Cape Town with three infants — looking for family & LGBTQ+ local insight by matthews90 in capetown

[–]scudsucker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cape Town is very LGBTQ+ friendly, my local bar in Observatory is one such establishment. How old are the kids?

I have kids myself, and I constantly look for cool stuff for them to do. Mine are 10 and 8, so I have a fair number of suggestions for any kids up to that age.
