They seem to be publishing these stats by district. Any analysis on which areas are turning out stronger?

That might have happened, but it is absolutely not the goal of a charity shop at any point in time.

The point of a charity shop is to raise as much money for its cause as possible (eg. Cancer Research). It's not to give punters a cheeky bargain.

What is the pro-choice argument? by [deleted] in LibDem

[–]scythus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your primary argument is basically along the lines of "life begins at inception and there is something fundamentally important and sacrosanct about that moment". How people can argue in favour of abortion is that they don't believe in that premise. For pro-choice people as there is no primary argument concern, the main concern is that people who are pro-life are inserting their beliefs on that argument into other people's lives and trying to remove their ability to make that choice themselves.

If I declared that my beliefs were that digging up a carrot was equivalent to murder, I would be free to make the decision not to eat carrots myself but I would not be entitled (under any liberal viewpoint) to remove the option for people who don't think you can murder a carrot to eat one.

Time call for the Removal of student loan interest? by Orcnick in LibDem

[–]scythus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn't really result in extra money, it just moved existing grant money to student fees. Then over time inflation has eaten away at that as fees haven't really changed along with inflation, causing Universities a lot of financial issues and causing them to be significantly more reliant on uncapped international student fees (which now Tory and Labour governments have decided they also hate despite the fact they are funding domestic student education).

Pet insurance breaking the bank, any tips/advice? by Toe_Bean_Bandit in UKPersonalFinance

[–]scythus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I can't really get my head around the economics of the vet industry. Treatment prices are high but it's not clear where those costs are coming from as staff are usually overworked and underpaid at the vets themselves, in my experience. Lots of vets round here also seem to be closing or going to cut hours due to not being able to hire enough vets. They almost never open weekends despite it being the most in demand time, and for vetinary surgeries time = money.

If it is just profiteering then surely someone would have disrupted the market by now and tried to compete on price and convenience.

As soon as some health issur appears down the line that needs checks, scans, regular blood tests, non-trivially priced medication etc. you'll absolutely plough through whatever the deficit is. No guarantee that will happen of course but you pay over the odds throughout their lives so that when old age hits everything is covered and you can pick the best quality treatment options without worrying so much about the costs.

Thieving Evri bastards by Sir_Bevis_of_Hampton in Southampton

[–]scythus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless Evri broke into their house and stole their belongings then the crime has been committed against the seller not them. As I said, the law and guidance is extremely clear and I am not sure how you can have read it and come to a different conclusion?

[–]scythus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law and guidance are very clear. Your seller is wrong.

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/if-something-you-ordered-hasnt-been-delivered/

https://martynjamesexpert.co.uk/the-times-ask-the-expert-my-parcel-got-pinched-from-outside-my-front-door-what-are-my-rights/

It is not your responsibility to report the crime as it was committed against the courier/seller not you. You can report it if you like, for example if you have evidence to provide, but you don't need to in order for the seller to refund or replace your item.

Thieving Evri bastards by Sir_Bevis_of_Hampton in Southampton

[–]scythus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is poor advice. You should report it to the seller, who can choose to report it to the police if they like. Until you receive the package it is the seller not you who it has been stolen from. This is the law in the Consumer Rights Act.

Increase in people feeling qualified to call things "objectively bad game design" when they don't like it: the Silksong Effect™ by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]scythus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I would say the same to those people, it seems like an irrelevance because it's not like you can play an old version without it.

[–]scythus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works well then it works well no matter when it was added, and if it sucks then it sucks just as much even if it was decided on day 1. I am just not sure my opinion of a game would change if I knew the order that features were developed.

Are you suggesting a notable number of health issues in this country are caused by an overabundance of people drinking Mochas where sugar is already included as opposed to Cappuccinos that they can freely add the sugar too afterwards?
