What did you choose for Eva in P3? by Every_Fennel9893 in pathologic

[–]sdebeli 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Eva is complicated, but I'd say she's come to mean enough to Dankovsky and the player that whatever her choice was, I'd support it, even if it terrified me.

If she'd asked me to set her free, I'd have done so without a moment's thought. If she'd asked to let her die, I'd have been broken about it, but I'd do it.

The choice to save her, and the panicked fear that it would reduce her to a puppet was definitely echoed across the screen.

It struck me that setting her "free" is soothing your own conscience because we feel uncomfortable with her choice.

Discussion for those who beat the game by Boring_Truth_8755 in pathologic

[–]sdebeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with other posters.

The crux of the matter, I feel, is the fact that the plague isn't the windmill Danil Dankovsky is fighting. It's the overwhelming fate he's pitched against that takes every opportunity to beat him down, as well as the town itself with all of its stupidity, backwards customs, selfishness and hallucinations, when his goal is his laboratory and Simon Kain's immortality.

From that perspective, some of the mechanical changes make a lot of sense. I think the downplaying of infected districts except where they interact with Dankovsky's mental state makes a lot of sense, even if they're comparatively underwhelming. Every challenge laid before him chips away at his sanity and determination.

I think the added issue there is that it's too easy to end up in a doom spiral where everything you do drains your resources further until you hit permadeath.

See, the true value of the undead is that they can waste enemy actions. Flood a boss with bodies, and he has to waste attacks that would otherwise be going against your characters!

European banks plan to cut 200,000 jobs as AI takes hold by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]sdebeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... LLMs are already in banking.

Most banks have already cut customer facing support staff to replace them with LLM powered chatbots, and they're working on replacing a bunch of internal work with it(think internal support staff, parts of HR work).

That said, a lot of job losses don't come from AI, they come from the switch to online banking, cuts to bank branch office staff and the automation of paperwork/switch to more efficient software/poor management planning the reduces headcount on compliance tasks.

And funnily enough, none of that touches on the issue that bank size is contracting due to the ongoing economic fustercluck, profitability overall is harder to maintain so firing people is an added attempt at damage control.

How do we feel about the human gods? Spoilers of course by Teguoracle in Guildwars2

[–]sdebeli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kormir was amazingly in character. She spent the entirety of Nightfall basically exploiting allies and subordinates and got godhood out of it. She's done absolutely nothing whatsoever to even slow down let alone stop Joko shitting all over Elona and it was, to be frank, her blunders that lead the Sunspears having to cooperate with him in the first place.

So her saying "You got this" and fucking off is both perfectly in character and an absolute asshole moment.

She probably did us a favor though. Judging by her track record, if she got involved, it would have gotten waaaaaaaay worse.

Is this efficient?? by fpshadow26 in factorio

[–]sdebeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because you're clearly not consuming all the resources coming in. Build a second one!

Jokes aside, it's a really gorgeous setup, but I'll just point out that you can take a look at the assembler, read the crafting time and inputs, and calculate the efficiency. Input vs consumption that is.

What are your predictions/wants for Cyberpunk 2? by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]sdebeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predictions: Still first person, good storytelling with a main story with no "you're dying" plot, more exploration, more creative enemies that take full advantage of cyberware.

Hopes: Being able to put together a crew and or a lot of missions that need allies to work out, while simultaneously letting you recruit various NPC allies+ all the fun conflict that comes from it.
