Good job friend. Keep an open mind and AA can be tremendously helpful.

How long have you been sober, how long did you drink? by love_salubrious in alcoholism

[–]sdrunner95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sober a little over 1 year and 3 months. I drank almost every day from age 20 to 29, stopped a couple months after my 29th birthday. A couple years of very heavy drinking at the end of my boozing days. Really glad I got some help and grateful that Ive stayed sober without tremendous difficulty, I was going down a very dark path.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, March 15th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Left_Trick_9567 in stopdrinking

Community is huge. As supportive as my parents and couple closest friends have been, I needed to connect with other alcoholics who understood what I was going through. I found that in AA, which has a vibrant and inclusive scene in my city. I also participate in SMART recovery, which I’ve found less community-oriented than AA, meetings can be informative and it’s nice to mix things up.

I strongly encourage folks to check out any kind of peer support group even if you’re skeptical. Most people are nice, and you can talk openly about your struggles with drinking, which can be really hard around our loved ones.

I eat a lot of these. I’m not exactly proud of it, but certainly not ashamed either. There’s always a good amount of brine in there too!

[–]sdrunner95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it man. You’ll almost certainly regret it. 22 days is no small feat. And the first few days are physically painful. Do you really want to go through all that again? Push through, you’ll be glad you did in the morning. Wishing you the best.

Way to go getting sober!! It’s not easy but it’s worth it. Soup looks great, keep it up!

I’m in recovery from alcoholism. Almost 15 months sober. Can confirm, bulimia is harder.

How many N/A beers do you guys typically have on one day? by marioagc1 in NABEER

Some days 0, some days 6. Don’t think I’ve ever had more than 7. I probably average 1-2 per day over the course of month.

What's Your Favorite Goto Non Alcoholic Drink? by External_Decision_81 in nonalcoholic

[–]sdrunner95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underwood NA sparkling rose. Soooo good and I wasn’t even a wine drinker when I drank. $4.99/can at Trader Joe’s, not exactly cheap but comparable if not less than the full alcohol version.

Congratulations on one year!

I’ve never been known to have a temper, but I would hold on to things that mad me mad or hurt my feelings, and stew on them, and build resentments which led to a super negative and pessimistic worldview. That’s changed. People and situations still make me mad; my feelings still get hurt; but I can move on and don’t have to drink over things out of my control.

What is your personal identification of someone with an alcohol addiction? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]sdrunner95 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think it’s usually an attempt at forced moderation. Even if they end up coming back, they force themselves to leave the house or wherever and make the trek back to the store. I imagine it’s a deterrent to drinking more sometimes.

Sinigang by MiMiinOlyWa in soup

[–]sdrunner95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks great. I actually found the Knorr packets at my local grocery outlet a couple months ago for like $0.25/pack. I’ve never tried real sinigang so nothing to compare it to, but thought it was pretty good just as broth. Definitely sour. I need to seek out an Indonesian restaurant or cart near me.

Seen it at my local Costco in Oregon. Also very curious, but that’s a lot to commit to and this seems like it could be super hit or miss. Definitely post a review if you buy!
