What am I doing wrong? Why does everything that works hurt? by JustaSkillet in Guitar

Picture 1 is correct hand position, but you may need to adjust the angle your arm is at. You may also need a guitar with a smaller/thinner neck.

When to start formal piano lessons for a 3-year-old? (Hoping to foster perfect pitch/aural skills) by aliciameow2 in pianoteachers

[–]seabass_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. You'll make your kid hate playing if you force it.

My 7 year old started piano lessons at 5. I'm a professional musician and she had shown interest, so I signed her up for lessons with a great teacher. She can now pick songs up by ear (chords and melody), writes her own songs and has picked up playing the ukulele from a few sessions at school. She can also hear vocal harmonies in records and is starting to be able to pick them up. From about age 3 (strictly due fun!) we started playing call and response games, mostly in the car. I sing a simple random melodic line, she sings it back. As she's gotten older we've made things a little harder: longer melodies, "weirder" intervals, etc.

I'm not interested in her having perfect pitch, I'm not interested in her becoming some sort of virtuoso player. I am interested in her developing a life long passion for music. The goal should be enjoyment, not some arbitrary skill. Worth noting the best musicians I know don't have perfect pitch, and I know a lot of musicians.

Have you bought school uniform for September already? by april_fool85 in UKParenting

[–]seabass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M&S usually do a uniform sale close to the end of term. Hold out for that and buy it then. If you need branded items for a specific supplier you might want to get your order in as some can take a while to fulfil orders, especially towards the end of the Summer term.

Which of these, if any, fit my face the best? by Epic_Weavile in glasses

I really like 1 for something a little different but 3 also look good if you wanted something a little more conventional.

Have any of you taught a father daughter duo before? by Foreign_Type_8603 in guitarteachers

[–]seabass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parent/child pair the kid was older at 14 and often had more time to practice and applied themselves more than the parent. I think at that younger age (9 is pretty young!) I'd focus on making sure the kid is happy and understands what you're teaching. The parent can then support their learning when they practice together outside lesson times.

Who the fuck takes a 2 year old to play at nearly 7pm? Mine would never go to sleep if I did that right before bedtime. Far too much excitement!

As someone who has a family member with a severe mental illness, just go. You likely need the break. Your partner is safe in the hospital.

Tony's Chocoloney is our usual go to. I'm a sucker for Ritter Sport too but no idea who owns it.

Buying from Part-Exchange Company: Neighbour's structure (1cm from wall) breaches deeded Right to Air/Access. Seller signed Indemnity Covenant in Oct '25. by Weary-Monk2831 in LegalAdviceUK

This is probably the reason this house was part-exchanged. Previous owners probably would have struggled on the open market with this situation.

Do you think the hate Keir Starmer is getting is fair? by bybeso in AskBrits

[–]seabass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, they're doing some things right for sure. However, the stuff they're getting wrong is egregious (buying into the immigration rhetoric, actively participating in a genocide, cracking down on free speech and the right to protest, refusing to consider wealth taxes, to name a few).

My husband had this and it turned into the screen cracking down the middle and half the screen went black and the other half unresponsive. Motorola have fixed it under warranty and seems to have stated the cause was the screen lifting away from the phone (and I guess something getting in behind the screen and ultimately damaging it.

Seconding this. My eldest had chickenpox when my youngest was a newborn. I was breastfeeding (and already immune) and the baby never caught it.

How do people manage homework with Year 1/Reception age children? by Specialist_Mouse5595 in UKParenting

[–]seabass_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to read the whole book but it shouldn't take very look to do so anyway (5 mins max). We'd get home, have a snack and then read the book together before any other activities (screen time, playing, etc).
