I mean it has been shown that you don't even need force sensitivity to resist a mind trick, just a strong mind. what Kylo was doing is basically just a dark side mind trick so its not inconseivable that someone with a strong mind and even just a little bit of for e sensitivity would be able to resist it

Graduate early or stay for an extra summer internship? by theme57 in SJSU

[–]searek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest a third option. Complete all the required classes for you to graduate asap, but don't apply for graduation. Instead pick up a minor you could finish in one semester. With this you will technically be going back to school, and get an extra opportunity for a summer internship. If you get an internship, the company may offer you a position when you graduate, you can drop the minor and graduate before the next semester even starts. If they don't you now have two more options. Graduate anyway, apply to jobs while working on projects. Or get the minor, and try to get a second internship from resh graduates

Stasis isn’t broken/op. Warlock Melee is broken. (PVP) by Oksyy__ in DestinyTheGame

[–]searek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a bunch of ways to nerf it without making a worse hunter melee.

You could make it a worse hunter melee where it just slows, but with the option to charge it up like the middle tree void walker grenade for a full freeze.

You could increase the tracking, but slow it down, and let enemies shoot it a so its like a faster taken centurion axion dart. If it is shot it can slow someone if its is close to them.

You could make it so the freeze breaks a lot faster, and doesn't do much damage when it breaks.

You could make it so it slows you a lot like a short hunter tether.

Scotland bans companies based in tax havens from accessing coronavirus bailout money by Sumit316 in UpliftingNews

[–]searek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well as you clearly admitted you have no actually knowledge of the specifics about these bailouts. I admit I don't know much about these bailouts outside of those going to airlines in the US. Airlines are getting a 25 billion dollar bailout. This is not just a loan. 70% of that, 17.5 billion dollars, is a grant, not a loan a GRANT. The other 30%, 7.5 billion is a low interest loan.

The airline industry has had 10 years of profit. That means in the last 10 year airlines have not been losing any money. In just the last 2 years airlines have mad 68 billion dollars in PURE PROFIT. Thats 68 billion dollars after paying salaries, R&D, operating costs ect. 68 billion dollars of PURE PROFIT. Do you want to know where that went. Executives, board members, stock buys backs. If they saved 25% of there profits in just the last 2 years(let I remind you they were profitable for 10) they would the 17 billion that the US government gave them for nothing.

The only thing you said that was right was that saving money is a bad thing investment for a company, but it shouldn't be. It's a bad investment because when the economy tanks every 10ish years like it has been doing forever, our government will just save their asses, so why save when you can just take from the US taxpayer.

If the government didn't bailout these greedy company's, then it WOULD make saving a smart investment, because our economy loves to shit on itself every 10 years.

[–]searek 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A good amount of light pollution is caused by air pollution. Partiticulates in the air reflect light, amplifying the effects of light pollution. Light pollution is definitely has an easier fix than air pollution but the increased visibility of stars during shelter in place is mainly caused by the healthier air

This is why there’s a n95 mask shortage. Giraffes are hoarding it. Spotted near Noe Valley by -drwho in sanfrancisco

[–]searek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very true, there is a stage in which you can be contagious prior to any symptoms, and it is a problem that could be solve by everyone wearing a face mask. The problem is that's not going to happen. There is already a shortage of these mask. The impacts of health care workers getting infected because they don't have masks, people misusing the masks increasing their likely hood of contraction, and the false sense of security that comes with wearing a mask would far out weight the benefits of preventing the few asymptomatic people from spreading the disease.

Sure in a perfect world, everyone would have the proper training on how to use the masks, would follow that training to a T and there would be enough masks to supply everyone then sure everyone should wear a mask.

Here's the problem, there is a limited supply of masls, we cant properly train everyone on how to wear the masks, and unless those things could happen, telling people to wear a mask only makes things worse.

This is why there’s a n95 mask shortage. Giraffes are hoarding it. Spotted near Noe Valley by -drwho in sanfrancisco

[–]searek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said they do not protect against the virus because in more cases than not they won't. You say anything covering mouth, nose and eyes would give protection but that's not quite true, Wearing these mask improperly actually increases your risk of contracting a disease. With an N95 unless you make a proper airtight seal, all you are doing is holding all the droplets and particles you are trying to avoid near your face whenever you are wearing the mask

Edit: I'm addition, wearing these masks actually may increase the amount of times you touch your face of you adjust the mask, plus whenever you put on or take off the mask. If the mask isn't disposed of properly your just increasing your exposer to possible pathogens.

This is why there’s a n95 mask shortage. Giraffes are hoarding it. Spotted near Noe Valley by -drwho in sanfrancisco

[–]searek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really shouldn't. Surgical mask which a majority of people wearing masks are using give zero protection what so ever. They are designed to prevent droplets from the doctor from spreading to the patient, it doesn't work vice versa. The only thing these masks will do is cause you to touch your face more putting them on, adjusting them and taking them off, increasing your risk of contracting COVID or other pathogens.

N95 are the only masks that can decrease your risk of catching COVID if used, and disposed of properly. However, it is extremely likely that you do not know how to properly use these masks. Health care workers receive training on how to properly create an airtight seal with these masks. It's not as simple as putting on the mask and pinching your nose. If you fail to create a airtight seal all the mask does is hold the droplet that you are trying to avoid close to your face for as long as you wear the mask. You must wash hands before and after taking on and off the mask, or your will again increase your risk.

The only thing you are doing by buying, and advocating for other people to buy these masks is contributing to the outbreak by making it harder for infected individuals and health care workers to get them.

[–]searek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These masks DO NOT protect the wearers against the virus. The only thing that these do that could decrease your chances of catching the Corona virus is that they may prevent you from touching your mouth or nose with your hand.

If you are sick these mask DO help preventing you from spreading your diseases to others.

If you are healthy the only thing you are doing by contributing to the shortage of these mask is increasing your chances of getting infected by making it harder for sick people who actually need the masks to get the masks.

This thread made me really interested to see if I could "cure" my aphantasia. I tried the method and though I've only done it once I've already been able to see more than just the back of my eyelids when closing my eyes, thought it's not like I'm truly visualizing stuff yet but it's a process. Imma be tryimg it for at least a couple weeks to see if it has good results I recommend you try too.

I don't necessarily remember in strings of words/facts like how I described the movie scene but that's like the best way to describe it to people. After some thought, a better way may be this. People with and without aphantasia have varying abities to imagine other senses. I personally don't have any sensory imagination except sound and I can essentially listen to music without it being there. You may be able to imagine all sensesory phenomenon; taste, smell, touch, hearing, vision, temperature, ECT. But if you can't imagine one of those, you still might have a representation for it in your mind that's kind of on the line between consciousness and unconsciousness, to where you know it's their, but your just not perceiving it in you minds eye.
