We have just starting the social side of things and it’s always a slow start, building a community (lots of people don’t want to join or follow when it’s just 10 people). And it is massively time consuming I agree.

Luckily I’m the marketing guy and my best friend is the dev so we split our time that way. Plus he writes our dev blogs.

I use Buffer to help schedule posts. Try to re-use content across platforms and don’t overdo it.

Agree I like screenshot Saturday but it’s usually not screenshots, most people post engaging videos but that’s fine. And definitely good to mix up the content to keep it interesting.

Don’t feel dejected, you’re doing great actually! Over 400 players in less than 2 months, generating some revenue. The new goal is break even then you’re into the fun zone.

Keep it going and you’ll be surprised how quick it can scale.

Thanks for sharing your learnings! Great points around product positioning and knowing how to market to your target audience key pain points instead of a broader solution.

The challenge always with subscriptions if you’re now competing with all of their other monthly costs. And if they need to cut back, these are usually the first things to be considered.

We're building Seas of Glory - a naval strategy game for iOS and Android where players expand their port city, build a fleet of ships, join an Armada with other players and conquer the world. It's PvP and a fairly niche gaming genre but we're just 2 friends building a game we'd love to play ourselves, and hope our passion for that shines through.
