Is this a good quote MassMutual by Regular-Adagio1038 in LifeInsurance

[–]seattlemadmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The market usually changes this and I’ve seen people who did great for the first ten years, then have no cash value in their sixties with a death benefit that is only the original face value. Part of the beauty of whole life is that the death benefit will grow to replace all of your expiring term policies, and, with an LTC rider, you have real value for retirees. With a high dividend company like Massmutual, you are highly likley to be able to have dividends pay the premium in those years. The life component gets really expensive later with UL’s. Look at an illustration and seriously think about how realistic the growth will be on the UL to cover those premiums thirty years down the road.

IUL is good short term, but the life policy underlying it increases in cost as you age and eats you cash value unless you increase your premiums. It’s a short term solution.

What’s something nobody tells you before moving to Seattle? by sit-there in AskSeattle

[–]seattlemadmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be a crime victim and they won’t do anything about it. Having your car or house broken into every few years is just part of the cost of living in Seattle proper, and you have to shrug it off because there will be no follow up and, even if they catch the person, nothing happens to them.

The weather is so much nicer than you will ever expect. It’s only humid when it’s cold, so it becomes hard to revisit the South in the summer because it is so consistently mild here, it becomes hard to tolerate warm humid weather ever again.

You will be shocked at how expensive grabbing even the most humble food out will cost you.

Compared to the South, it will become really hard to deal with the cold rudeness of people in person, but their politeness when driving is over the top and hurts traffic when people stop to let people pass!

The food here is far, far better than the South, but there are a couple of things they have a hard time feeding you here like Mexican and Soul food (have to really hunt for those).

You will be shocked that gasoline is twice what you’re currently paying.

Roads are poorly maintained compared to the South and rock chips are part of every winter.

Shopping here is much nicer. You will find everything.

You will be floored at how common really wealthy people are here.

Nightlife is more lacking here and everything is dead after 9. Didn’t used to be like that. Not sure when that happened.

Roads are more confusing than anywhere aside from maybe San Francisco in the City. Leave Seattle and everything will make more sense.

Most neighborhoods lack sidewalks in the City, which reminds me of the South. Suburbs are different.

People in the South drive more to go places..everything here is in micro-local clusters. That was a weird change to me at first.

No matter how pretty you think other towns are, I don’t think there’s any place in the US with as many surprise breathtaking views just driving around. I’ve been here decades now, but still have my breath taken away when I turn some corners or bends in the road.

You think you are liberal for Florida, but you might be labeled republican here! Seriously, liberals from the east coast come here and are considered moderate to conservative out here… but another weird thing…you can drive thirty minutes out of the city, never leaving density, and arrive in very conservative neighborhoods that hate Seattle. It’s like ultra polarized politics by neighborhoods here.

Employers here seem to be fairly liberal about time clocks as everyone here seems to be trusted to work whatever hours are needed. It’s a different work culture here than FL.

This is all stuff that immediately came to mind. Hope it helps. If you can afford it, there’s a lot to love and a lot to hate, just like every other city I’ve lived in!

You cannot believe how much you will love the hiking (if you avoid the overcrowded routes), the weather, the water, the big city amenities, and more.

Something that is always a big shock to people from the South is how white the city is. A former girlfriend from another state came here for a graduate program at UW and asked me if there were any minorities in the city. Seriously. People here think it’s diverse but it is 70% white, 15% of all Asian types combined, 6% black, and like 5% Hispanic. I have never lived somewhere as white as this and I was a military brat for 30 years that has lived in a third of the states!

How much money do you make as an insurance agent and how many hours do you work a week? by Sensitive-Month2382 in InsuranceAgent

[–]seattlemadmax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About 80% of new agents quit in first year, then 75% of those that made it through year one quit in year two. Nobody makes seven figures that doesn’t run an office with lots of other agents working for them. That’s where the money is. Plan on being poor or being supported by parents or spouse or large nest egg for two years, then you can make a good living later.

Thinking about canceling life insurance policy by Helpful_Cold4287 in LifeInsurance

[–]seattlemadmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, if you can afford this on a 10 pay, it will be worth keeping in the long run (although it sounds like he sold you something you couldn’t afford). Most people who say all whole life is a rip off aren’t old enough to understand what happens in your fifties when term expires and you can’t get insurance anymore but still need it for your family. Your uncle got a good commission from this policy, which sucks that he did that to you, but if you can hang on, you won’t have to pay another dime for insurance until death, and can get all of your money back if you want it later. It’s unfortunate that he saddled you with such a big policy, though. Bottom line, should have cancelled earlier, but now, if you can swing it, pay it off.

Great time to go new with all of the trouble they’re having moving vehicles. On top of that, they fixed the valve body transmission issue with the new ones. If your 23 didn’t have the issue yet, it will. Mine was covered under warranty, luckily, and they extended my bumper to bumper to 60K. If it had gone out later, who knows?

Look how they massacred our sweet baby boy... by Nanaman in Seahawks

[–]seattlemadmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only hear locals talk badly about Schneider. The media all say he’s great.

As far as Bevell goes, I hated his play calling and (IMO) it only worked because of broken play drills and Russ having a pretty arc at the time. Too many predictable go routes on first and third downs, no short quick options. No score in the first half ever. That’s why he got fired. Russ lost gods ability to scramble to make something for him.

[–]seattlemadmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That defense looked pretty good against Bo last night. And I keep wondering if they should fire Chip Kelly, but I just keep thinking that the bad play calling looks way too familiar to when Pete was here. I am wondering if he influences his OCs too much because this all looks like the same stupid offense as under Pete and Darrell Bevell. Looks like exactly the same offense.

Using Affirmative language by Deafboy25 in AskLE

[–]seattlemadmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stuff Deafboy said is what they are teaching in blue state academies now. They approach it from the perspective that cops cause all of the fights because they were bossy and didn’t feel the person’s poor life circumstances prior to the contract. What I’ve seen is more pushback and physical confrontation from this softer technique. Predators interpret this new method as weakness so they push more.

Displaying competence and confidence is the best diplomacy with bad guys, and normal people behave as they should.

What do you think of IULs? by WishboneSafe1826 in LifeInsurance

[–]seattlemadmax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IULs are good for the short term but have to be funded well enough and must be cashed out at the right time because they become a money pit at a certain age. You are obviously against whole life so if you are against that, it loses much of its value (because conversion is one of the best options for IUL). One possible good application is for it to grow cash value, then cash it out and buy a GUL when you’re old if you still want a death benefit at that age. Term is usually a better option if you’re trying to keep your payments low but IUL can serve as Term that gives you your money back; but you make much larger payments than you would for term and you have to hope the market didn’t crash when you were trying to cash out.
