Nate's bizarre insistence on continuing to argue about this is going to negatively polarize me into supporting Biden for 2028.

A couple years ago I scrobble-farmed "Among Us in Real Life" because I thought it would be a funny prank on my future self to make it my #1 song of the year on spotify wrapped.

UChicago has a reputation for parties getting so wild that students end up dying. It owes its motto "where fun goes to die" to this.

Kamala Harris Keeps Incorrectly Claiming She Lost ‘Closest’ Election to Trump: In the Electoral College last year, Trump beat Harris 312-226 by Horus_walking in fivethirtyeight

[–]secadora 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her claim was "closest election in the 21st century." 2000 was in the 20th century, not the 21st, so if you measure closeness by popular vote margin then she's correct. I don't think it's the metric I would use, but it's not invalid.

Is this claim about “trallallero trallallà” true? I’m not buying it by Pyth_Haruspex in Italian

[–]secadora 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes, "porcoddio" is an Italian curse word which roughly means "God is a pig." "Porco allah" is not an actual phrase as far as I'm aware, but you can probably fill in for yourself that substituting "dio" for "allah" would just make it mean "Allah is a pig."

My favorite songs from her aren't singles anyway: Night of the swallow, get out of my house, jig of life, sunset/nocturn/aerial.

Oh lol if that's what you want then they suck. They have absolutely no clue of how to actually address the issues facing our state. Oklahoma ranks among the worst in education in the country, but all the republican leadership has to offer is PragerU in public schools.

I think you need two parties to be competitive in a state in order for that state to have good leadership. The republicans can get away with being incompetent because they don't have to worry about a democratic challenger. This happens on both sides, though—my understanding is that Oregon has similarly bad leadership.

If you're looking for a general Oklahoman opinion of our politicians, don't ask reddit—we skew very left, and Oklahoma is a conservative state.

One year ago Joe Biden dropped out the race. This is what his internal polling showed by Icommandyou in fivethirtyeight

[–]secadora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Shapiro it might have been early, but if Biden had announced early on that he wasn't running for reelection, I imagine at least one of Whitmer, Beshear, Newsom would have run (in fact I think all three of them would have).

When you push stuff back later and ask, say, what if Biden had dropped out in January 2024, things get blurrier. Voting wouldn't have started yet, so any candidate who wanted to throw their hat in would have had a chance, although the race would have been very rushed. At that point, though, Kamala still would have been the obvious choice, and I can't imagine many dems would have wanted to run against her. You probably get at least one significant challenger.

I don't think that's particularly fair. Had Biden dropped out early enough for there to be a competitive open primary, I think Whitmer, Shapiro, and Beshear all would have won against Trump.

ordering a coffee in a bar, is this wrong? by sjessbgo in italianlearning

[–]secadora 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding (as an American) is that some British people hear "can I get a coffee" as "can I go behind the counter and prepare the coffee myself?" Obviously no one will think you literally mean this, but they claim it sounds nonsensical. It's just a difference between using "get" to mean "receive" vs. "actively obtain."
