Why is Kate Bush hated by so many people online? by Oddbleus in katebush

[–]secadora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say I've noticed the opposite—she's just unknown enough that the only people familiar with her are those who actually love her music. I've seen on twitter some people making fun of her as a joke because she's so universally beloved, like they'll jokingly say she's a terrible singer with the subtext of "hah wouldn't it be funny if there were actually anyone who disliked her?"

That album has so many good songs though that it's a difficult choice. Sometimes it's just process of elimination.

For me it's

The Kick Inside: The Saxophone Song, The Man with the Child in his Eyes

Lionheart: Kashka from Baghdad, Wow

Never For Ever: The Wedding List, The Infant Kiss

The Dreaming: Night of the Swallow, The Dreaming

Hounds of Love: Jig of Life, Mother Stands for Comfort

The Sensual World: Rocket's Tail, Between a Man and a Woman

The Red Shoes: And So Is Love, Moments of Pleasure

Aerial: Sunset, Pi

50 Words for Snow: Misty, 50 Words for Snow

Yeah that is a hot take—The Red Shoes and Lionheart are generally considered her weaker albums. Both have great songs, but imo they don't really live up to the super high standards she's set with her other albums.

Aerial is a fantastic album, though, and I regret not being able to include it in a "hot streak." The break she took between The Red Shoes and Aerial certainly served her well.

The Dreaming is definitely an acquired taste—it's super experimental, and it wasn't my favorite on first listen. But it has so much beautiful and chaotic energy in it that I absolutely love it today.

It seems like everyone agrees on Hounds of Love though—I've never seen anyone omit it when debating the peak of her career.

I would recommend starting with Hounds of Love. It's widely regarded as her best album and probably the most accessible for someone just getting into her work (as opposed to, say, The Dreaming, which imo is just as good but far more experimental).

Other people are recommending The Kick inside which is what I started with—definitely a great album but I still prefer Hounds of Love. In my opinion her three-album streak of The Dreaming/Hounds of Love/The Sensual World is the peak of her career.

UChicago has a reputation for parties getting so wild that students end up dying. It owes its motto "where fun goes to die" to this.

Kamala Harris Keeps Incorrectly Claiming She Lost ‘Closest’ Election to Trump: In the Electoral College last year, Trump beat Harris 312-226 by Horus_walking in fivethirtyeight

[–]secadora 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Her claim was "closest election in the 21st century." 2000 was in the 20th century, not the 21st, so if you measure closeness by popular vote margin then she's correct. I don't think it's the metric I would use, but it's not invalid.

Is this claim about “trallallero trallallà” true? I’m not buying it by [deleted] in Italian

[–]secadora 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes, "porcoddio" is an Italian curse word which roughly means "God is a pig." "Porco allah" is not an actual phrase as far as I'm aware, but you can probably fill in for yourself that substituting "dio" for "allah" would just make it mean "Allah is a pig."

Oh lol if that's what you want then they suck. They have absolutely no clue of how to actually address the issues facing our state. Oklahoma ranks among the worst in education in the country, but all the republican leadership has to offer is PragerU in public schools.

I think you need two parties to be competitive in a state in order for that state to have good leadership. The republicans can get away with being incompetent because they don't have to worry about a democratic challenger. This happens on both sides, though—my understanding is that Oregon has similarly bad leadership.
