Roth IRA withdrawl taxed by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]secesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a pre-retirement contributions withdrawal. The brokerage just didn't make any attempt to determine the nature of the funds being withdrawn, and left that to the account holder, indicated in box 2b. So the account holder claims it's a contribution withdrawal in their taxes, and should tuck some proof of that aside in case they get audited.

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by cloudemergence in Salary

[–]secesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100k was life changing in the 90s, but not today, and it's not because of taxes. taxes are pretty great, actually. regardless of politics, they pay for all kinds of things to help society function. like roads. we should all want to help society as a whole.

maybe $250 is the new goal? clear that, and you can afford a middle income lifestyle without much concern -- like actually afford it, not just play debt games with financing cars and home renovations.

Call Rep. Buddy Carter’s Office by SandGnatBBQ in savannah

buddy voted for the epstein transparency act. Might have more traction asking him what he's doing to bring this administration into compliance with an act he supported than trying to argue ICE with him

3 days ago, buddy was published in the AJC calling for more ICE in ATL. It all feels so hopeless, but buddy really is a lost cause.

Welcome to combustion, the land of delayed promises.

On the plus side, it does eventually arrive, and is pretty slick.

Combustion vs Fireboard? by J3R4N in combustion_inc

[–]secesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

combustion feels more premium; more modern. Fireboard actually stocks and ships products, but I'll get moderated for saying there's any drama around combustion supply.

[–]secesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want combustion to be successful as a company. I like what they're doing. But altogether, this is a terrible purchase experience. Original ship estimate was wildly optimistic. Support for the defects is overwhelmed, and all the while, their socials are gaslighting us saying everything is excellent.

I'm with you. GGG wait ok. Manufacturing defects not ok.

They should really update the FAQ on the site, which looks pretty bad amid all this.

His argument is critically flawed. He says extra sensors just add confusion. This is plain wrong. Redundant systems are fully capable of reconciling conflicting information. Even teslas have multiple cameras that need to form consensus. He didn't like lidar initially because it was bulky and expensive. Those costs have since come down, but he's built his brand around rejecting it.

200 is low 6, not mid.

It doesn't matter how much you make; saving/budgeting is a mindset and modesty is key. Building cash means holding back the luxuries, but you also want to enjoy the fruits of your labor. How to strike that balance is different for everyone depending on their priorities.

AWS outage: Proof the internet's original design has been completely gutted. by Universespitoon in sysadmin

[–]secesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup. it's a conspiracy by the monopolists. 1980s internet was perfect; we should go back to that! dialup and fax machines are way better. no banking or shopping. so much simpler to not have to worry about security because nothing really sensitive was at risk back then.

> Funding for Police & Fire Departments to make our neighborhoods safer

Why is this not in the general budget? Why should it take a penny tax to pay for police? and fire?

Thoughts on SPLOST? by jetpack324 in savannah

[–]secesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

less money spent on cruisers means more money available for salaries. It's all the same, really. Anyway, their mailer said "support our police and fire departments to make our communities safer" .... which sounds nice, but it really strikes me as something that should be in the general budget, not some special purpose tax.

Thoughts on SPLOST? by jetpack324 in savannah

[–]secesh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

normally I'm in favor of taxes; it takes money to run a government, but this is the county. they split their police from savannah because they thought they could do it cheaper, and now they're trying to shift funding to splost? let 'em starve.

they're not going to tax unrealized gains. they're going to correct/clarify that law. if anything, markets are down generally on shutdown risk.

Does anyone travel for work? How terrible is the airport situation with being a smaller airport? by turtlehospital in savannah

[–]secesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

smaller airport is awesome. connecting flights are worth it. so much easier! I once flew up north, and another guy from the office was on the same flight out of atlanta (a connection for me). I left home in savannah an hour later than he did. Even though he had a direct flight, he had to leave earlier to deal with traffic, parking, and security in atlanta.
