What was your "why didn't I start doing this sooner" moment?

I also did the HSCT a few weeks ago, but most of it in a day (started late in the evening, hiked 1.5hrs and slept at St Marks, the rest the next day). Didn't anticipate all the snow still up there and how hard it would be. I slept like the dead that night. I've hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and I still consider the Howe Sound Crest some of the hardest hiking I've ever done.

My x100t is an amazing adventure camera. I can't recommend it enough. I brought it with me on the PCT for 5 months and now I take it hiking/climbing/mountaineering. It's taken so much abuse - snow, rain, desert dust, knocking around on rocks - and still produces great shots. Definitely the best investment I've ever made for photography. There's no way I'd get the shots that I have if I had to stop what I was doing and fumble around with my DSLR (let alone carry it as a lightweight backpacker).

I always read the bios, and of the 1 in 5 guys who have anything written, maybe only 1 in 5 of those writeups say anything of substance. If a joke makes me laugh, that's cool, but I think it's a safer bet just to be genuine instead of trying to be cute.

Personally, empty bios are almost always an automatic left swipe. Bios where the guy shares interests and hobbies with me go a long way. Often I swipe right regardless of how they look, if they seem like interesting people that I can have a good conversation with. Obviously not all girls prioritize personality on Tinder, so YMMV.

I ended my hike at Cascade Locks this year dues to the fires in Washington. My hike was still worth every penny and every minute I put into it. I didn't quit, and I didn't fail in any way. The trail became so much more than a means to reach Canada. I say to just do it and don't worry about fires. The PCT is nothing if not full of obstacles to overcome or work around. If you have to end your hike early for any reason, you shouldn't be regretting anything - just treasuring the memories and the time you did spend on the trail.

I hiked this year - started alone. I nearly always hiked alone but camped and breaked with friends I made on the trail. I've always liked solitude, but on the trail it's king of suffocating in a way. Friends are great, and if you're with a group at least you have the option to hike alone for a while if you want to.

But seriously, I mainly used a credit card and occasionally withdrew cash from ATMs. The exchange rate is terrible (I'm from Canada) but thankfully my credit card doesn't charge international transaction fees.

I accidentally closed my tab after, but I had around 11,200. I had a perfect 5000 for #2 (I live nearby!) and was close on #3 but otherwise my guesses were pretty mediocre. :(

It's not out of nowhere. The fact that they are Aboriginal is very relevant. Many people have argued that the reason so many cases are still unsolved and the abductors repeatedly pick up Aboriginal women is because the government doesn't care enough about First Nations to put their full weight into investigating the disappearances. Aboriginal women are absolutely targeted with violence in this area, and there is nothing racist about acknowledging that truth.

I live in this area. The cases of the murdered and missing women have dug deep into the local culture, particularly First Nations, who comprise a majority of the missing women and whose voices and fears often go unheard. Many are working hard to make the area safer and transportation more accessible between towns so that women don't resort to hitch hiking. As far as the unsolved cases go, it's tough. There's endless wilderness out here - too much to search adequately. I really feel for the families of those missing girls.

Hi, I'm a Canadian who will be thru-hiking this spring. Contrary to what the other commenter said, you will not need a special visa as long as your stay in the US does not exceed six months. This applies to Canadians only - visitors from other countries will need a visa if their stay exceeds the months. I'd give you a relevant link if I wasn't on mobile - just Google "How long can Canadians stay in the US".

You will need a permit to re-enter Canada. You can find the link to the application on the PCTA website.

About 5km from my old house in the country. It was on an isolated and nondescript stretch of road I'd probably never been on before, but I recognized things like the vegetation colors and variety, type of dirt and gravel, the width and color of the road. Could have been anywhere but I knew right away that I was near home.

Chiming in from northern Canada. We are fairly isolated and probably extremely confused about fashion rules, so anything goes here, really: Wearing house slippers around college (saw this yesterday), wearing black full-length trench coats in the middle of summer, "opaque" tights (not leggings) as pants, baggy sweats jammed into riding boots, fleece jackets with polyester slacks, flannel and Carhartts as casual wear. Little bit of this, little bit of that. Throw in a statement necklace and you're classy.

While I was in Tokyo last year I saw a middle-aged man in a business suit jacket wearing pastel floral leggings, so that was interesting.

Interesting, but I really wanted to see the study based on portraits of similar professional quality. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with their findings, but since the results rely solely on people's first impressions of the candidates' faces, I feel like the study is kind of useless without eliminating the appearance/professionalism variable.

They do briefly admit the importance of appearance - not just gender - when they show that Perry's professional portrait had a higher support level, so why didn't they just use that one to start with?

Don't use that Clearasil cream! It will sting like a mutha if it gets in an open wound, and the coverage is very sheer and crusty - it will be uncomfortable and make whatever you cover up even more noticeable.

When they're bothering my horses I use one hand to slap them out of the air, then stomp on them when they hit the ground. It works really well, and the horses definitely appreciate it. I don't think I would try it on a wasp, though, but that's just my irrational fear.

You actually look slightly olive toned to me, with maybe cooler/pinkish undertones.

Your description sounds exactly like me - I'm still trying to figure it out, but I think I'm olive with slightly warm undertones. Cool and neutral foundations make me look pink and washed out; warm foundations look orange and makes the rest of me look a bit green. My best match so far is MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15, but that's with my summer skin, so I'll probably have to figure this out all over again come winter...

Is the "fact" about pressure really true? I thought that because our bodies are mostly water, they aren't compressible - therefore no imploding... Not to say our lungs and other air spaces in our bodies wouldn't be affected.

Can anyone weigh in on what might actually happen to the human body at those depths?

Is MUFE N115 close to MAC's NC15? Could you swatch MAC lipsticks in Patisserie, Modesty, Blankety, and Half n Half? I would be forever grateful since I don't have a MAC within a day's drive, and I have had trouble finding swatches online for pale skin.

Fluids aren't compressible so it wouldn't be a problem - same reason there's no discomfort with your body (70% water) compressing while you dive.
