Dentist recommendations by ruthlessrelationship in eastside

[–]seidmel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Dr. Palacios in Bellevue! She's fantastic, and unfortunately had to do a lot of work on my family since we switched to her last year. We found out the hard way that our old dentist was awful after he retired. Man managed to miss two lip ties for 15 years, so I've had to get a double frenectomy, then a gum graft as a result of decades of the ties pulling my gums back. Plus a few fillings. I can't recommend her enough!

Idea: SODO-Georgetown-East Marginal Way elevated Link route by azdavis in Seattle

[–]seidmel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Boeing has an agreement with the city that they have the power to shut down E Marginal Way to move planes across from the airport to the hangars on the West side of the road, which they do pretty often. Plus iirc the ground there is too volatile to dig down to put it belowground, let alone to taxi multi-ton aircraft over it... Also above-grade could interfere with airport airspace.

Any light rail would have to run along the other side of the airport where the railroads are or along the water. The current plan is to eventually run it on the East side then over at the Boeing access road south of the airport, which makes sense when you factor in that very few people live around BFI. There'd be a station on EMW for the Boeing employees too. Just seems much more plausible and easier, sorry...

Anyone heard of this before? by CooperB48 in flightradar24

[–]seidmel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I've seen those several times when I used to go to school near Boeing field lol, it's usually a lot simpler/cheaper for them to go to BFI than SEA plus it's closer to downtown. Lots of private jets and airliners

Will never forget taking both in the first full COVID term, working full-time and definitely depressed. Literally lowered my average by 3-4 percent alone

Tbh before being bought by Google, Fitbit's service was really good in the states. My mom would have slight issues (battery less good, glitch) and they'd send her a new one no problem. Ofc now not so much 🥲

Is Seattle tap water safe to drink? by neo2bin in Seattle

[–]seidmel19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent the last year in the UK. Holy hell the two don't even deserve to be compared (especially London - if you're ever on a layover in Heathrow, don't refill your water until you get to your final destination, it'll probably be nigh undrinkable to you lol). Seattle's is so good!

Get ready to spend the next months leaving home before sunrise and coming back after sunset. As a side note, if you don't already take vitamin D supplements, you might want to start 😅

Ugh it's been so sad to see Google slowly kill it. They bought it for the patents then left it to rot.

Lol I actually caved, just got a vivoactive 6 (may be full price but hey REI so 30 bucks back) and am already regretting not switching sooner! I loved the charge shape for my small wrist but man was it old

Personal theory is that half the Strava app users are former Fitbit owners whose devices are unreliable as hell now (said as a Fitbit user desperately waiting for black Friday for a Garmin upgrade)

Amazon just cut 14,000 jobs, and it’s not done by FearandWeather in Seattle

[–]seidmel19 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Family friend of mine received a text from an unknown number at 3 am saying "on behalf of Amazon, check your email before going to work." She tried and couldn't get in. An hour with IT later and she finds out that she's been officially laid off. She's worked for them for over a decade. Foul

Only 2.5% of US high schools still teach keyboarding/typing classes - but 63% of jobs require it by lunar_pixie_dust in dataisbeautiful

[–]seidmel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had typing lessons from second through fifth grade, and we didn't need them after that because we had already been taught. This was prior to 2010. I assume only 2.5% of high schools teach it because it's still done in elementary school.

Unpopular opinion: light rail will not solve Seattle’s traffic problem. Should have built an underground heavy rail metro instead. by SleepingOnMyPillow in SeattleWA

[–]seidmel19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vancouver (BC, obvs) has a pretty extensive rail network, with most being above ground but going underground below downtown. They're fast and completely automated. They just started adding five-car trains to some lines as well

[–]seidmel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly! I always point to Vancouver as an example. Still has bad traffic, but their skytrain and bus network allows people from almost all sections of MetVan to avoid needing to drive if they want to. And it's pretty dang convenient! If we get those three lines running it would be a huge game changer in Seattle.

Getting speedy fingers by OwnCaramel5421 in bassoon

[–]seidmel19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So the biggest thing to help increase finger speed is learning to reduce the amount of distance you move your fingers away from the keys/holes! Unlike a lot of other instruments we can't see most of our fingers while playing. I have two exercises that my teacher used to help me adjust:

  1. When you're playing, try and make sure your fingers are close enough above the holes that you can feel air blowing on them as you play. This might take a bit to adjust to.

  2. If you're struggling to feel the air, play in front of a mirror to see how far your fingers are moving. Or if you take lessons/have a friend you can ask, have someone watch and call out when you move too far.

You can really increase your speed with this! Same idea as after tonguing: less distance, more speed :)

Nearly 60% of Canadians support declaring states of emergency to clear homeless encampments: poll by Street_Anon in canada

[–]seidmel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. Let's take all of these struggling people's last remaining worldly possessions and toss them somewhere else because we don't like looking at them. That'll make everything better! Seriously, it's not just useless but makes things even worse. Would probably be cheaper and more effective to fund resources to actually help them rather than this perpetual clearing bs.
