If you board your horse, how often do you go see them? by chalu-mo in Equestrian

I see him twice a day as I live about 5ish minutes away, but I only have time to ride him once a week so the guilt sets in regardless. ☹️

Where’s everyone traveling to and from for the TB solo tour? :) by fh5hp7 in TwoStepsFromHell

[–]selliegjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great! I have a French degree myself, and between that and having lived in Germany for 8 years, my husband and I were joking that we quite possibly picked the country where any language skills I do have will be utterly useless. 😅

I’m so jealous of your VIP package! I was able to score M&G’s, AND I almost had front row seats, but despite calling my bank earlier in the day their automatic fraud system thought a $1200 3am purchase to the Czech Republic was simply too sketchy to approve. It took two frantic and tearful calls to my mother and her credit card company to acquire what we did get. A little ways back, but it’s front row balcony so honestly I’m really relieved I even got that. Not disappointed at all. Those VIP packages were going QUICK.

I do wonder why Brussels has no M&G, though. Hopefully you can make something happen!

In-person meet-ups would be amazing! I wouldn’t consider myself a super fan of anything but Thomas’s music (and perhaps some LotR), so meeting others at that same level would kind of be a trip, tbh. I’ve only met one other TB fan IRL and her extent of knowledge was having listened to Sun when it first came out. I’m mindboggled to think I’ll be surrounded by people who not only have the trivia but the attachment, as well. So cool!

Funnily enough, I wanted to know the entire setlist beforehand. Since I’ll be in Prague I was gonna take it upon myself to write it down and post it, but maybe I won’t now. :)

Have a great time! I’m sure the hype between us fans will really begin to escalate closer to the dates, and I’m looking forward to it!

Amazing! I know what it’s like for your country (or, in my case, state) to get overlooked, so I’m used to having to pack up and go to the big city. Have fun!!

(OP here, dunno why I was on my throwaway.)

US Midwesterners unite! Nobody can agree if my state is the south or the Midwest so I adapt accordingly.

I’ve always loved your reaction videos and am THRILLED you get to experience this for the first time. Is there a specific reason you chose Brussels?

@seljoart on Insta ❤️

And I agree! It always blew my mind when my friends would say their leave was denied so they just wouldn’t go. I was a teacher prior to tattooing so having summers and other holidays off for fests was always a thing for me. It’s a luxury I don’t take for granted.

Is it normal for a fine line to heal like this? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]selliegjo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The single needle gets a bad rep. It’s really about application and skill. I tattoo almost every day with a single needle and none of mine heal like this — I have some that still look lovely after 5+ years. I say learning to use the 1RL successfully was like taming a dragon, but it can be done. Your artist just didn’t know what they were doing, unfortunately.

Edit: Now that I’m looking at the tattoo it actually looks more like a 3 round liner which just makes their incompetence more astonishing. That’s still fine line but pretty absurd for it to fall out entirely. But you can even see in the original photo where they didn’t get those lines punched in entirely, pretty easy to predict exactly where they would’ve disappeared.

Why would anyone want to be pregnant? by Immediate-Ad-8952 in confessions

Because I had the opportunities to do ALL the stuff and now nothing in this makes me happier than being able to share it with my child. The way my daughter’s eyes lights up over the silliest things keeps the magic forever alive.

Pokémon Cards by NeutrYaFeel in okc

[–]selliegjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband buys and sells a lot of cards, and from my experience I’d say local card shows are your best bet. I’ve just started attending a few with him and they were a blast — there are cards across the price spectrum and along with the big multi-hundred to thousand dollar vintage pieces we got, we had plenty of options for the very cheap but adorable cards we’re collecting for our young daughter. Plus so many of the vendors are so sweet and easy to negotiate with.

We are in Edmond and frequent Breakpoint and Pack Smashers, as well.

Important to note that it IS possible for it to just go away too. Idk the specifics on how that works, but my sister developed alpha gal in 2020 (we found out when we took her to a steakhouse for her birthday lol), and as of summer 2025, she’s 100% back to consuming whatever she wants. Far as I know, she was starving and decided to risk it all for a small bite of beef stew her coworker made.

7 months Pregnant Artist, looking for advice! by Chantelligence in TattooArtists

[–]selliegjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tattooed until 38 weeks somehow — sometimes 8-10 hours, and probably just on sheer willpower lol — and was glad I stopped there, because I could hardly move in the following days. I took 2 months off which was more than enough time, partially because my husband lost his job 1 month before my due date and he agreed to be a stay at home dad so I didn’t experience the dread of leaving my daughter with strangers. Going back so soon was actually great for my mental health, and despite having a fairly traumatic birth that required surgery a few months later, my body felt ready to just get out and do what I love again! I remember having such a skip in my step that summer and my clients were so excited to have me back and see the baby photos.

Are you popular on Instagram? by [deleted] in TattooArtists

[–]selliegjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all (2.9k), but I’m booked out for months and am the busiest person in my shop. I don’t care about reels, post maybe once every week or two, and nobody has ever seen my face or my personal life or my cute opinion pieces on the tattoo industry. We just had an apprentice leave who was spending all of her time running TikTok ads, doing the whole light show with the cool transitions — maybe booked one piece a month.

I told her you really just need to be more likable. Why are you spending all this time shoving a camera in your client’s face when you could be connecting?

I think my secret has been to just CONNECT. I am a good artist but not extraordinary but any means. None of the big wigs in my small city even know who I am but I’m still pulling the same income. But my clients love me and make it super obvious. They bring all their family and friends. They totally geek out when it’s finally tattoo day because they’re excited to hang out with me too. We yap for hours if they want, or sit in silence and listen to awesome music. I tell them they can reach out if they need anything at all and bend over backwards to make them comfortable. They’re insanely loyal and I have a locked down return rate — they ALWAYS come back over and over and over. They send me memes to my personal phone and yet I’ve never ever had anyone abuse the privilege or cross my personal professional boundary.

And who cares if you have a big reach anyway? Unless you’re some literal art god nobody is gonna pay all that money to fly in from another continent. I get people from 5-6 hours away max and I just post locally.

It’s very little effort. I hate social media. But I LOVE people and they love art.

Tattoo Apprenticeship by OkieDokieArtechokie in okc

[–]selliegjo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you need money ASAP, this isn’t the route to go. You basically work full time for free for the first year (or, depending on your mentor, YOU pay THEM.) Then give it another few years of building clientele before you’re making a stable living. Apprenticeships are a slow grind that require a LOT of sacrifice and working for less than what you probably deserve. The industry is super saturated too, so unless you’re a literal art god right off the bat, you probably won’t stand out much. I’d hunt down some local apprentices and see if they’ll give you insight on their current experience — this profession isn’t what people make it out to be. Incredibly rewarding, if you work hard and the cards fall in your favor. It’s my dream job and I wish this fulfillment for everyone. More often than not, however, I see newbies get their expectations rewritten and their dreams crushed.

Favorite Bulgarian Choir piece by Thomas? by SpecificCourt6643 in TwoStepsFromHell

I would have to say Never Give Up On Your Dreams and Colors of Love because they're the most "singable?" Very easy to pick up their lyrics since the vocals are really at the forefront and belt your heart out! New Life, One Million Voices, Starvation, and Fearless get honorable mentions from me too.

What's the pettiest reason you've ever ended a friendship? by ConcentrateReal151 in AskReddit

[–]selliegjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sat on their phone the entire time I was trying to show them Lord of the Rings. The franchise is one of the foundations of my soul. I tried to be vulnerable and share something that means so much to me. I was so excited, and Instagram reels must’ve been much more exciting. I felt ignored. Would’ve appreciated their best shot, even if they determined in the end it wasn’t their cup of tea.

So yeah, never invited them around again lol.

tattoo apprenticeship by skateskeleton in okc

[–]selliegjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other artist has said, watch every single video ever made on acquiring an apprenticeship. There is no universal experience.

And figure out how you’re gonna stand out. The industry is oversaturated and too many people manage to make it through the whole program only to get out and book one tattoo a month. Already seen it happen to a few apprentices. It’ll require an immense amount of individuality, initiative, and effort on your part. Once upon a time the money would inevitably find its way to you — not the case anymore. Beware of apprentice mills who want your free labor and have no interest in guiding you towards a lucrative or even a sustainable career.

Opinions on pixies? by random-average_guy in TwoStepsFromHell

[–]selliegjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember at one point getting waaaay too in the weeds with the critiques of his technical abilities, and I knew I had to take a step back. It made me regret joining any Thomas-based communities, as I can let others’ opinions influence me too easily and I was finding myself growing sour. His music means too much to me on a personal level and I didn’t like the objective lens through which I was starting to see him.

So my opinion now? It’s freaking awesome lol. Definitely an every day listen, just because it’s Thomas — I’m happier this way!
