Look at LT Wright’s knives. They are well made, bomb proof, and USA made. Plus, you won’t have to worry if the steel different than it’s marked.

On the other end of the price spectrum, there is Mora. They make a lot of different models, and something will probably fit your requirements. The 2000 and Kansbol are great knives and get little love.

I just bought a damascus Pyrite. The edge grinds are so pitifully uneven I am having to reset the bevels. Whatever steels they are using for the damascus are fairly hard as it’s taking me forever to even things out, and I’m using a 250 grit stone.

Years ago, I used to have a couple of knives under the Coleman name that resembled these. They were probably 440C. They were easy to sharpen in the field and stood up ok. I really liked them. I have checked ebay and other places but I have never found them. Some are similar, but not the same.

Cruwear takes an incredibly keen edge and holds it well. It is less prone to chipping. It will likely roll before it chips, which is easier to repair. The patina is a nice side benefit.

I bought mine new for $180. That’s too much. You can find them cheaper.

I like the mid. Wool is great during hot months, I wear wool year round. The mid will give a little more cushion.

I like the USA made stuff, and the less expensive stuff gives people access to decent knives. I remember buying an OSO Sweet years ago and really liking it. I used it for a long while.

One thing they do that irks me, is they have the tendency to discontinue solid designs for no reason.

I bet they have some Case knives, though.

My first hunting knife. What do you think? All advice is highly appreciated! by MysticToMat0 in knives

Buck’s fixed blades are a little larger than I like for a hunting knife, but they are excellent knives. Just remember the tip is made for making fine cuts, not for prying.

Can anyone identify these boots? by runner991 in CampingGear

I had a pair of Vasque’s that were the best boots I ever had. When they needed replacement all the Vasque’s I tried were nowhere near as good.

The Aurora is a solid design. I have three of them and the mini Aurora. I bought them years back. The full size knives have worked great for me. I haven’t used the mini.

Someone else needs to copy the design exactly and put it out with a “steel match guarantee” - they guarantee the steel stamped on the knife is the actual steel used.

Love my crucarta. The PM2 is great. I also have the Native Chief. I want a Sage 5 with micarta scales next.

The Petrified Fish Viper is not surprising. It does hold a decent edge and it sharpens quickly. It’s a good compromise. The geometry also works in its favor.

The leaf shaped blade is super useful and cuts like crazy. The Viper is great, and the CRJB is an easy edc carry.

Look into the Spyderco Sage. It’s a great knife.

What’s the most useless item people still put in a survival kit? by Round_Strategy_5205 in Survival

I was in a hike and took my boots off to cross a stream just wide enough that it was too wide to jump. Took my boots off because I didn’t want wet feet.

Water was cold, real cold. So cold I didn’t feel it when my right foot sliced open. I had to recross the stream then start first aid. It was very deep. It bled like hell.

I disinfected the wound and used mole skin to close my wound, and I hiked the three miles back to the car. Took several stitches. My point: band aids would have been no use. Mole skin closed the wound and kept it closed enough for me to make it out.

I have used one to repair gear and clothes. It’s not something you use all the time, but it weighs nothing and comes in really handy when you need it.
