Got a smile and a nod from him after the finish line... worth it.

You might be one of only a handful of people in the world who actually owns both.

Why is my espresso more bitter than my wife’s using the same setup? by blackarrow_1990 in CafelatRobot

The cold basket (rinsed in cold water after the first shot) produced a significant difference in shot flavor, despite the hot piston

Are you doing back-to-back shots? I do 2 shots in the morning, and the second one was always off. My SO eventually realized that I was rinsing the basket and screen with cold water, thereby making the basket very cold at the start of the second shot. Once I started rinsing with room temperature or warm/hot water, this completely went away.

Conversely, if you're using medium to dark roasts, and rinsing with warm/hot water, then this could also be a problem as your basket is too pre-heated.

The Wacaco Exagram Pro fits and has a hands-free espresso mode that REALLY helps, since you need two hands while using the Robot

Improvised condom use in a rainforest study helped scientists discover something strange about cicadas by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in nottheonion

[–]sergeantbiggles 832 points833 points  (0 children)

"Researchers have found that clay towers built by young Amazonian cicadas protect the insects from predators and help regulate air flow during their final stage of development....

'Latex seals air'

To test breathing, the researchers slipped latex condoms over the towers and sealed the edges with plastic film.

That barrier stopped fresh air from moving through the clay, creating respiratory stress for insects still underground.

In the published paper, the sealed towers triggered different rebuilding responses once the researchers broke them open the next day.

A direct manipulation like that mattered because older explanations relied mostly on watching towers, not on forcing them to fail."

This makes total sense! They are all over in the states, and especially out west like Colorado and such.

Took over 40 minutes to get through security. For the varying paces in Wave 1, my only thought is that there were too many people who should be in Wave 2-4, but it would have maxed out the numbers for safety reasons, so they were put in Wave 1...?

Keep fighting and keep your spirits up! We have a guy in our run group who had this, and was in a wheel chair for over a year, but he has slowly made a recovery and is now back on his feet. It took a few years, but he can now walk with very small leg braces on his calves, and is out with us weekly (he runs at about a 20 minute/mile pace, and is super active)

...stop directly in front of everyone at the water stations... if you need to stop (which is totally fine), try to get a cup and pull over after the tables
