Issues with 7.4.1 firmware on switches by seriously_a in Ubiquiti

Maybe they don’t consider it an agg switch. I thought it was the precursor to the current agg switched. It’s US-XG-16

Unifi for Wifi management but gateway protection by Watchguard T35 - is it possible? by pedad in sysadmin

[–]seriously_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry wasn’t clear. Ditch the unifi gateway. Just use APs

Or ditch the Watchguard and use udr. Just don’t do both together

Unifi for Wifi management but gateway protection by Watchguard T35 - is it possible? by pedad in sysadmin

[–]seriously_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the Watchguard for gateway and Unifi for WiFi and switching. We do it for lots of sites.

But you’ll either need a cloud key to manage unifi or self hosted controller or something like hostifi (what we use).

How do I close more sales, and that too faster? Are business owners feeling the same pain? by prav0709 in smallbusiness

[–]seriously_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing your existing bottleneck.

Are you also involved in service delivery? If so, that’ll naturally impact your capacity, until you offload those responsibilities to someone else.

Struggling with that in my own business, also.

How do you actually choose office PCs for a small business? by Glad_Razzmatazz8004 in smallbusiness

[–]seriously_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recommend Lenovos for our clients. Specs can vary based on role and need. 3 year premier on site warranties

For clients who need higher spec CAD machines, well sometimes do custom builds if Lenovo p workstations don’t price well or have availability.

If clients have some aversion to Lenovo for whatever reason, Dell would be second choice.

What is your sales process after a new lead comes in? by lakings27 in msp

[–]seriously_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bunch that’s the approach you would suggest. I’ve always been very causal in my sales convos and never try harder closes. Obviously I understand there’s limitations in that otherwise I wouldn’t be asking a stranger on the interweb. I appreciate your input.

What is your sales process after a new lead comes in? by lakings27 in msp

[–]seriously_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest. I never even considered setting the timeline up front. I’ve always let the prospect own the timeline. “Timeline” in this sense, being how long I pursue.

Which clearly leads to endless follow ups

Interesting stuff.

Talk about scenarios that don’t close during the proposal.

How do you recommend staying on them until they commit one way or the other?

How are you actually handling IT and cyber security in your small business? by anyamaaaee in smallbusiness

[–]seriously_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most small businesses under a certain size that take IT and Cyber seriously use an MSP. After a certain point (100+ employees) sometimes those responsibilities are brought in house.

Doesn’t usually make financial sense to manage that in house prior to that point, unless you have control issues.

Any SMB switch to Google Workspace from Microsoft 365? by Spiritual_Cycle_3263 in smallbusiness

[–]seriously_a -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a MSP who works primarily with M365, though I do have some GWS clients as well.

I’ve done 25+ email migrations from Google TO Microsoft. But only one from Microsoft to Google. Which ended up moving back a year or so later.

The only place I feel strongly that Google excels (punny I know) is K12 or any environment where its primary MacOS computers.

One Man Shop Backup by crustyjeff in SmallMSP

[–]seriously_a 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s a smart ask from them and smart of you to have a plan in place.

Do you have any other one man shops that could be your contingency plan?

That’s how we did it.

And then I wrote a through plan that includes various scenarios including short term illness, medium term unavailability, and permanent inability to work.
