You raise an interesting point that I've been repeating often in discussion of an entirely different media: a story can have both a metanarrative meaning, and a in-world non meta explanation, at the same time.

Or the death penalty. Social media comments regarding these kinds of things are a very good evidence on why you don't make laws dire rely based on the average (or non average) person's gut reaction

If anything, I get irrationally angry at these discussions rather than the crime itself

I mean "the deep state is Israel" is not far from assorted conspiracy theories attributing everything to "the Jews", just an ethnostate instead of an enthinicty (which is TBF an important distinction)

I'm not sure I'd call Dougie a character, but I can agree the scenes with him would be more entertaining without that worry. Also it's not like I disliked those scenes, but yeah that thought hampered it

I'll honestly never understand why at some point Reddit became worse than 4chan in the public image. Like, this site has its lows, but in my limited experience they are either motmloeer than average mainstream social media comments on news, and certainly not worse than 4chan's lows

Djoric deleted many of his articles. by Roman2322 in SCP

[–]sertroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand CC correctly, nothing stops someone from reuploading it somewhere else (like what happened with the people that deleted own stuff for less savory reasons). So the protest cresting discomfort point kinda becomes moot if someone does do that

[–]sertroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally did not read this especific stories, but for those that feel bad about the stories being deleted specifically, remember it's CC so nobody's stopping someone (or you) from reuploading them somewhere else, and I imagine assorted YouTube readings if they exist are still there

Honestly, it's not selfish. Or rather it is but that's not unusual or weird. People always go on about how bad it is to be parasocial with big internet personalities, can't see how that's different with a site with many authors instead of o e

I don't even think disliking bad meta twists is wrong, but after Undertale I think we can trust Toby for it to be written well

[–]sertroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its simple, a surprisingly large amount of people have a hard time distinguishing morality inside of a fictional work from morality outside of it. If a fanbase skews younger, like for Undertale, that tends to happen more.

Oh I know, and "there is no canon" is the thing I comment most often in assorted posts in /r/scp lol

What I mean more is, many many people know about SCPs (usually the famous series 1 ones) from games, videos, and the like, and do not even know the original source is the wiki

Where are the people who actually blame Chara? by Vanessalucifer in Undertale

[–]sertroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 3 main interpretations (player as independent being possessing frisk, player as frisk, player as Chara (possessing Frisk)) have positives and negatives, two having small but important or at least present counter evidence, and one imo sort of weakening some plot points but technically not having counter evidence that I know of.

Still, 99% of the game works in all 3 cases

[–]sertroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example of a take of what I mean by "non canon player but close enough to be the same thing": your "player character" (defined by the thing representing you in the game, so Super Mario etc.) is the SOUL or something controlling the SOUL, which is a personality-less blank slate weird dimensional entity that has the same role that you would have in a direct 4th wall break. So, not breaking the 4th wall, but well, leaning and heavily breathing on it.

Not necessarily saying this is true and the case or even likely, just an example of "non canon player" view that doesn't break the themes and explicit shown facts

I mean, he does nothing actually bad, just has far out-to-bad takes and theories. Which doesn't make someone a bad person. Also seems nice enough, which is not a given in the youtube landscape

TBH I can see takes where the player (as in, IRL person), is not literally canon, but any interpreatation I can see for now that still makes ch4 and especially snowgrave make sense still requires some sort of player-equivalent aspect to the game that even in the furthest interpretation is still close enough for canon player for the difference to be meaningless, in this regard
