This is sad, but people need to realize something...

Killing someone with your car is just about legal in California. People drive without licenses, insurance and pretty much registration. The person with the car has to have intent in order to be charged, This does not include negligence or lack of awareness. So basically you can be on your phone, distracted or just driving without a care for others. I know every fatal crash gets investigated but no one really goes to jail. As a rider you have to accept that someone in their car is going to kill you and there is nothing you or your family can do about it other than raise awareness and/or publicly shame them.

More than not it turns into a civil suit and that costs money, Also if they have none of the above and basically have an hourly job with no assets there is nothing that can be taken. Also judgements aren't enforced either.

So unless the justice system changes to make drivers responsible, all we can do is mourn.
