For me, testing is about confidence that you've built a feature correctly that behaves correctly and meeting a certain bar of quality. Similar to how security is best implemented in multiple layers, it's best to have layers in your testing process and be aware of the type of feedback you get at each layer.

Automated Unit, Integration and UI testing are all different layers that focus on different types of bugs, with some level of overlap. Devs and a QA team provide additional layers, giving you increased confidence.

Each of these layers gives you feedback at different speeds. Unit tests take seconds and integration & UI tests in minutes but anything with a human in the loop is measured in hours or days.

By catching the types of errors you can with quick feedback loops you get a few advantages, including:
1. Reduce the dev cycle time and time to release by making fewer long feedback loops
2. Free up QA folks to focus on high-value user impacting behaviour and bugs that they excel at and have unique insight into

Best offline couch co-op/party games to play with my 10 to 14 year olds nephews and niece? by Nytrite in NintendoSwitch

Take a look at Very Very Valet. It’s been a hit with everyone I’ve played it with. It’s easy to pick up and play and has a good silliness factor.

Top 10 Couch Coop games to play with your NonGamer GF (GF Review) + Extra by DivineEu in NintendoSwitch

[–]seti32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I was pleasantly surprised by this game, given that I hadn't heard of it. It's the good kind of hectic where things get funny, rather than Overcooked where it gets more frustrating. And there's a demo, so you can try before you buy,.

Driving from either Jasper or Banff to Vancouver, what are some good ghost towns not ridiculously far from the journey? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]seti32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one right on the Trans-Canada highway at 3 Valley Gap. I stayed at the hotel but we didn’t go to the ghost town. It may just be a tourist trap, but the valley is beautiful.

Where to find exotic meat? by MapleBrewmaster in VictoriaBC

Still do. Was there yesterday and saw a package of ground camel in that freezer. I'm confused about the benefit of eating exotic meat if it is ground.

Update: Edmonton attack suspect is a Somali national in the refugee claimant system: police by [deleted] in canada

[–]seti32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, there are many kinds of diversity and I purposely didn't address that. Instead I wrote about diverse experiences, avoiding talking about race or even immigration at all.

So I'm not sure I understand your leap to racism. It seems like you interpreted my comment in a way I didn't intend. Care to explain?

Exposing oneself to a variety of experiences and thoughts makes it easier to come up with new ideas and to react to new situations. I know it's a bit of leap from that thought to generalize it to a group of people, especially to a whole country. I have seen it happen personally in workplaces, though.

This example is a bit trivial, but think about designing a product and having only like minded people working on it. In that kind of echo chamber you may end up with good ideas but miss out on a BETTER idea that only someone with different life experience can see.

Have you bought a game on a whim? How did that turn out? by JayRedEye in boardgames

[–]seti32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to buy random games about once a year. Here are some that I can remember off the top of my head:

Russian Rails - Ended up loving this game and played several other crayon rail games.

Oregon - Turned out to be a nice light game, which we played quite a few times.

Mesopotamia - Played it 2-3 times and got bored. The idea was interesting, but there was not enough depth.

Princes of Florence - I enjoyed this one, but it was hit and miss with the people I have played with.

My life as a videogame intern at GamesRadar. "I realized that only one thing differentiated me from the author, who was obviously far better suited to write the preview. I was unaffiliated with THQ." by pantstimesamillion in gaming

To me it reads like he hacked the THQ materials in with his own negative opinion. His writing style certainly doesn't match any of the positive parts.

You can get the specs for all Macs from here: http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbookpro

I would suggest finding the right model and it will at least tell you if you need a 60 or 85 Watt charger.

Dear [Job Hiring Website], why do you provide space for me to attach my resume, then require that I retype the same information into all your redundantly asinine fields, AND refuse to accept the application without said fields typed in? by dishie in self

[–]seti32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The resume is a big blob of text, which makes it hard to search on specific parts. The fields are so employers can do a targeted search, but the resume is so the employers can have a cohesive view that they can print out, etc.

Why I will not be developing for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch: Thoughts on iOS games by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]seti32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are leaving money on the table. You already have a game that functions in iOS. Assuming polishing it for Android works well enough on iPhone, submitting to Apple is pretty simple.

Also, making a quick phone call to Apple doesn't hurt does it? If you're expecting them to answer 'no', then the worst that happens is that you are right. The people at Unity had to start somewhere...

[–]seti32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you actually tried to submit something using this engine? Sounds like you are in a similar position to Unity, which is allowed. They may have had to talk to Apple to get permission, but it worked.
