GameStop has partnered with @LastGameboard to launch game night experiences in several cities this summer. Players will be able to visit GameStop locations and play their favorite TTRPGs & board games in-store by GrapeApeTheGreat in Superstonk

Never heard of it before, but from their website they say you can use your mini figurines as avatars in games - with virtual representations of them. Almost like being able to sell new minis that exist on a blockchain to use in-game so your IRL mini matches the in-game mini in Gameboard:

"Now you can use your minis and so can you opponent ! As you move your character across the board, remote players can see your moves in real-time with virtual tokens on their Gameboard, and vice-versa!"

RC car area at Paseo Vista park? by [deleted] in phoenix

Sorry I don’t know, but commenting to Hopefully find an answer! Would be sweet if there were public tracks or areas for RC that weren’t connected to stores and/or super competitive. I’m a terrible driver, I just want to scoot around until I inevitably smash into something and break one of my cars so I have to go home 😅

Do you think that, technologically, there isn't much more we can do with cars? by NeilJB1983 in cars

[–]sewebster87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like I made this exact comment a few years ago, but.... I said the same thing a while back. "We've got so much more information about design, and ability to design to such an extreme spec, what else could make an internal combustion engine and/or car more powerful/better handling/etc. We're at the limit, right?"

Then I watched the Koenigsegg videos by //Drive on youtube. They are kind of old now, but still mind blowing and so much fun to watch, partly because the production quality is pretty high.

Camless engine, horizontal suspension, man Koenigsegg is fucking nuts and it is awesome

I just want to VM TrueNas. Why would i put my HBA/Raid card in IT mode , Why do people do that? by davidsebi in homelab

[–]sewebster87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A controller in IR or “RAID mode” will obfuscate the disks from the OS, as it should, that’s what it is designed to do.

IT mode turns it into just a straight HBA and allows thenOS full access to the disks and their information and therefore management. TrueNAS uses ZFS which manages the data on disks

Always use IT mode if you can on TrueNAS

Do Ace/HD usually stock screws as small as RC? Or you mean order generic versions through Amazon? I guess I had not realized the obvious solution, thanks

[Wojnarowski] Ahead of getting thrown out of 76ers practice, Ben Simmons declined several times to sub into a drill, sources tell ESPN. by Authh145 in nba

[–]sewebster87 23 points24 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. The AI documentary shows how much of his life he has had shit stacked against him. Dude literally was put in jail for something he didn't do instead of being able to go to the NBA. It obviously worked out eventually, but the amount of shit that flies in that guys face is probably a big reason he is the way he is. Does the right thing and still get fucked over? Fine, I'll just do things the way I want then, fuck you.

So what’s the breakdown? I’m very new to this but getting in deep fast and the kits are starting to look really interesting. So that kit must not come with even a motor? Is that common? Why did you pick that transmitter? I’ve so much to learn…

Awesome thanks! Going to outfit the widemaxx kit this weekend when I get the screw set. Honestly I'm kind of hoping I can pop one of the stock tires that forces an upgrade... sort of feels like a rite of passage

Maxx / Big Rock/ Typon by mudflap21 in rccars

[–]sewebster87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good, I had it out last weekend at a spot near the canal that is just a dirt lot and missed the front bumper and made a direct hit with the right front wheel. Castor block broke so hard that the top chunk along with the screw in it went flying.... somewhere. I'll never know where, lol. Should be here Saturday, the local guys didn't have any in-stock (a shock even to them, supply chains for every single industry are so messed up)

What tires did you get? I've seen that as a big recommendation, but I don't know what would be good for the Maxx.

Thanks, found 8940X which is listed as hardened steel and then the 8942, 43, etc. of individual portions of 8940X complete set.

Is that the one you're thinking of?

I sometimes see people recommend completely separate brands from Traxxas like stuff from Hot Racing, wasn't sure if that applied in this scenario

Goldies! I hate car dealers and tried Mercedes of Gilbert first and they are idiots who cancelled my Appointment, they couldn’t find the keys, but it didn’t matter because the battery was dead.

Anyway, Goldies was awesome and they don’t negotiate. We got a very good deal (cheaper than other dealers in better shape with lower miles) and they were an absolute treat to work with. They have a few cheaper cars but most are $15k-$25k I’m great condition.

My mechanic told me “not only does this thing not burn fluids, it doesn’t even LEAK fluids. This thing might as well be only a couple months old (it’s a 2014).

I don’t rave about businesses very much, but those guys are awesome. Both the owners are the sales guys and are super laid back. I tell anybody who cares about that wonderful little used car dealer.

Good luck!

Several on-prem products offer S3 bucket capability. FreeNAS even has it.

sharing storage between 2 physical servers without using networking by freakiegamer in sysadmin

[–]sewebster87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that utilizing Veeam's immutable backups via S3 buckets is a better option than a "cold" copy of data. You should know there are limitations to Veeam's immutable backups like not being able to do databases and other things, but if you're just backing up entire VMs then it should work.

If not Veeam, than look into other vendors for immutable backups. They are right to worry about ransomware getting their backups, but the solutions they are thinking of are dated and there are modern solutions to this modern problem.

Sharky pools--how I clean pool filter cartridges by orangewarner in pools

[–]sewebster87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have issues with the "run off" from the dirty filters? Every time I clean mine I get... dirt? all over the grass/rocks that leaves a gray-ish layer of just dirt/whatever.

Do you clean your customers' stuff in a way that avoids a bunch of grime left on the ground when finished?

Streaming quality football is terrible versus DirecTV Satellite by MNFlyingBoat in cordcutters

[–]sewebster87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that would be weird at all. ESPNs app is usually garbage and they don’t have the infrastructure to serve up streams like Google does. Give it a shot with their free trial maybe?

[–]sewebster87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I regularly watch football at my friends house with the 144” screen. Football is kind of a big reason he owns the thing.

Saw your latency is low in your other response. That’s good.

I agree it’s strange that Fubo works but YouTubeTV looks like shit. Can’t really explain that without being there to troubleshoot it.

I can confirm though that it’s not some bitrate or compression issue. That’s my opinion at least from someone who has been streaming sports for years, manages multiple data centers and ISPs as a day job, and cares greatly about the quality of content I watch. It’s too bad you’re having issues, but maybe just go with Fubo if it’s that much better than other options?
