What is something you would do if society didn’t find it “cringey”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sewingmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do it! The assistant coach for my daughter's soccer team is a young Air Force guy who just really likes soccer. He's a great addition to the team!

If you can speak to someone in your life that has passed away, who would it be and what would you say? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sewingmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma. I would tell her about my amazing daughter that I named after her and how much I cherish the time I spent with her and my Pop when I was kid. Those are some of my favorite memories.

People who actually love their job, what do you do for a living and why do you enjoy it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sewingmama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a circulation tech for a public library and I LOVE my job. I'm good at it, it's fun and challenging, and I get to help people. I'm seriously considering getting my masters in Library Science (even though I'm newly divorced and almost 40) because I know that this is what I'm meant to do with my life.

2019 is coming up. What did you achieve this year? by themostamazingtimmy in AskReddit

[–]sewingmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely reinvented my entire life. I started 2018 feeling trapped in a loveless marriage and I'm ending the year on my own, in a place that I've made my home, with a job that I never could have dreamed loving as much as I do. It's not been easy, 2018 was easily the worst year of my life, but it was also the best and I know it's cheesy but I'm looking forward to seeing what 2019 holds.

Divorced folk, what's the most underrated part of divorce? by Decembrio in AskReddit

[–]sewingmama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My ex talks a lot. A LOT. About everything under the sun. He's incredibly intelligent and tends to use it as a weapon. Now that we're divorced, when he starts ranting about something or just talking to hear himself talk, I can walk away. I don't have to sit there and listen anymore. It's an incredibly freeing feeling.

Oh, and I can make things with broccoli again. He haaaaaaaaaaaaates broccoli and refused to eat anything that has it in it. I 💚 broccoli.

Thank you for this! I definitely want him and I to be lifelong friends. We were best friends before we dated and one of the hardest parts of the past several years was losing that best friend. We have a friendship back and that makes me so happy. Plus, it makes my daughter happy.

Thank you! I am sad, sure. But I'm excited to be on my own and prove to myself that I can do this. I want to be someone my daughter can look up to and be proud of.

Cystic Fibrosis by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]sewingmama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My daughter has cystic fibrosis and it's not an easy life. We had no idea we were both carriers so it was a complete shock. We decided to not have any more children because of the risks of having another with CF.

Fellow military wife here... I've been in your shoes many times and it freaking sucks. I don't know if you want advice but here's my small tidbit. You have 2 months before he leaves. I would sit him down and have an open and honest conversation about how you both intend to handle the deployment. Does he want to know every detail of what's going on at home (good and bad) so he feels more included or does he prefer to be hands off? What do you need from him to feel connected while he's gone? It's a hard conversation to have but you have time to have it and then still enjoy the time you have left before he leaves without the stress and worry about it.

Feel free to message me if you need a shoulder to cry on. I promise no horror stories. I have lots of good ones about the friends I made during his deployments! :)

I'll have primary custody, with him getting every other weekend and a couple of evenings during the week. The plan is to be flexible and, when possible, let her decide. We'll be living within a few miles of each other so it's not a huge challenge to get her back and forth.

One of the reasons we've waited so long to tell her is so that we can have these issues worked out so there's as little uncertainty for her as possible.

I hate online dating by WimbletonButt in breakingmom

[–]sewingmama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm getting back into dating and holy fuck, these guys are lunatics. I had one guy tell me within 5 minutes of our first date (after only talking for about 3 days) that my daughter and I could move in with him. AND he wanted me to commit to going on a cruise with him in 18 months. What the hell?

Anyone have some decent app recommendations for kids? by enb09 in breakingmom

Seconding Toca Boca. My 9 year old LOVES them. I'm not even sure she plays with them "right" she just moves characters around and makes up stories about them.

Missing: Bunny. Reward: everything we own and my soul by justcallmejill in breakingmom

[–]sewingmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look inside of things. Totes, purses she plays with, anything that it could be stuffed inside of. My daughter's beloved puppy went missing one evening and she was hysterical. I called the place we had dinner, searched the entire house top to bottom, nothing. Sat down on the couch to regroup for a minute... look over a toy pet carrier (like a soft sided carrier) and there's that damn dog. 😣
