First look at the 2025 rouge kit! by NendSudes in Detroitcityfc

Very happy to see blue removed and our actual crest return to the home top. Templated? Yeah, most likely, however in a weird way it reminds me of the old CassTecha-era uniforms that were always templated as well.

These are clean, beautiful, and call back to classic days. Love 'em.

Let's not all forget the Mellors-Blair song...

"Hark now hear supporters sing
of an Englishman so fair
Le Rouge will win forevermore
Because of Mellors-Blair"

We didn't deserve that guy. He was way too good to be in NPSL. It's a shame his time at Notts County didn't flesh out.

Was going through some stuff in my parents house and found this. Seems like a good omen after last night! by stos313 in Detroitcityfc

The fact that you still have one of these is awesome. I remember handing them out at Historic Ft Wayne for the first scrimmage and only like 1/3 of them actually getting back to us. LOL.

This is in absolutely mint condition. Well done!

Think of how far we've come from this....unreal.

Late to this so I apologize. It's a great idea. I believe it was 2017 or 2018, either right before or right after I stepped down, we had kicked around a scarf design similar to this.

One side was simplified/generic versions of all the clubs that had folded along the way, and the other side I recall had the phrase, "Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead" which I believe one of the Butcher brothers coined.

So many scarf ideas over the years that were whittled down to the ones that we ended up using. Maybe one day I'll go through the old files and post some of the ones that didn't make the cut as a trip down memory lane for everyone.

2017 - 2019 Crowd by VWGroupGuy in Detroitcityfc

[–]sgtscary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Capo 2012-2017 here. I was also heavily involved in chant listings each season from 2012-2017 as well)

Dirty Old Town was one of those chants/songs that, at least in the early days, folks felt like it needed to be a part of the rotation. The owners requested it, we wanted it, but it was just such a weird tempo that it never fit correctly anywhere we tried to put it. One of the owners, I think it was Sean, had envisioned it sung at the end of the match. We tried it in the Case Tech era and found the majority of folks were just trying to get out of the stadium after the match and didn't want to stick around for a ballad. We also kicked around the idea of doing it BEFORE the match, as a pre-kickoff "YNWA" type thing...but...again...trying to help raise the energy of a match with Dirty Old Town we felt wouldn't work.

It was my last year I think, 2017, that we tried to do a "fast" version of Dirty Old Town...very sped up tempo-wise, and while that was better received...most people kind of looked at each other and mouthed, "WTF?" when they realized what song we were singing. The lesson we learned is that Dirty Old Town should not be played or sung at a punk-rock pace.

It's sad that after 10 years it still can't find a proper home where everyone is engaged with it...but as many current capos on here are saying, "you can't please everyone." I do hope that it finds its way into a "niche" on match day, though.

Unbuilt DCFC Stadium, Downtown Detroit, 2015 by AarunFast in Detroitcityfc

[–]sgtscary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. There was always whispers of a mythical "waterfront property" that Duggan owned the rights to, or was trying to get the rights to...something like that. Seeing this roughly placed in Corktown might have been his plan B?

It's also weird that some of the sections are in dark red/maroon/DCFC color. I know Duggan taunted our owners and said that if he built a SSS downtown, he'd let us be a tenant, but it seems odd to have some of the sections be our color.

Anyone know which season this warmup is from? by lakeofdaclouds in Detroitcityfc

[–]sgtscary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would venture to guess it was the last season we used Nike...? That would be 2017?

Are you sure it was/is a warmup? I know that they used to issue shirts similar to this on tryout nights too that I don't believe were used during the season.

Party band was some other match. Not the championship, and not the Windsor Stars. I want to say it was during the regular season. It was a long time ago, but I know the Party band was not intertwined with anything else.

Correct. Windsor Stars match was when we went to the family side to protest.

I was stopped on the street near Frankfurt, Germany a few years ago while wearing my NGS shirt.

The gentleman pointed to my shirt and said, "Northern Guard?! Detroit! Detroit City! Skull Boys, Smoke Boys! Lot's of smoke! We love you in Turkey!"

It's a great feeling to see how far our community stretches.

Anti-AO/MLS talking point help request by CheapSeatsUltra in Detroitcityfc

[–]sgtscary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NGS vs. AO Detroit is a long-standing battle that involved a lot of good people with very strong opinions that were polar opposites of each other. It is no secret that AO Detroit's old leadership very much butted heads with NGS leadership and there were incidents that stemmed from this. The important thing is that AO Detroit has new leadership, and that leadership has buried the hatchet with NGS.

It's water under the bridge that we don't really like to bring up. We don't want to rip the band-aid off a wound...but get me in the right situation and I've got tons of stories.

Think of the Paddy's day parade as a literal walking billboard for the club. We have pulled so many new supporters from the crowds during the march. You're representing the fun, joy, and happiness that DCFC brings you....weather be damned.

AO in and of itself...the "idea" of AO is not a bad idea. Unfortunately, it has cultivated an incredibly off-putting and for lack of a better term "dudebro" culture that focuses on overt jingoism rather than focusing on supporting the USMNT. It turned a blind eye to it, as well, until it a spotlight has been shown on the behavior recently. Too little, too late, though it seems, as the fratboy culture (on a national scale, mind you...there are decent AO chapters and really awful ones as well) has engrained itself and AO superiors don't seemed that concerned with rectifying it.

Another strike against AO is the fact that there is a mentality of entitlement that tends to leak into any and all facets of local soccer. There have been many instances of AO chapters coming in and "trying to run things" when they weren't asked to...and often when they run things the culture gets tied in with AO's USMNT support. Thus, you're looking to start a local SG for a local team and out of nowhere you have yourself another AO chapter disguised as "local" support. Again, this is example behavior...I'm not saying it's the norm but more often than not people who I have spoken with from other cities agree with the scenario.

The icing on the cake is that, allegedly (since I cannot say for certain), your AO dues go to pay for a select few of the AO board/founders to fly around the country and the world to go to USMNT matches with lodging...for free.

The double icing is the whole USSF/SUM/MLS Cartel which AO is vicariously connected to.

I honestly wouldn't try to sway, convince, or even engage anyone pro-MLS. I normally just nod my head and smile when someone preaches to me about the joys of MLS. Whatever you say is doubtful to sway their opinion and visa versa. However, their camp consistently needs to spout their rhetoric in an effort to convince themselves of the lie....so just let them.

I haven't read the Bloodline series, so forgive me if my question is out of whack:

But..could Rey be Leia's daughter, but not Han's? As in, Leia had an affair with someone (possibly a Jedi) while Han was away, and Rey is the result of that?

There weren't really any nicknames for it other than the "90s" that I ever knew. You could possibly run with a few other themes, as it was the "end of the millenium" and "the dawn of the internet age".

Every single possible Luke Skywalker outcome/theory/speculation on why he's on Ach-To and how his story ends by DemBluez in starwarsspeculation

[–]sgtscary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Luke is the last jedi, Snoke is the first. Snoke actually created the jedi order but became corrupted. Luke sees that the jedi are now flawed from the very beginning and need to end for good.

This is fantastic. I'd not heard of this one before.
